  1. Had forgotten about the wife losing her mind in the stands.
  2. Supposedly a giant buyout. Too bad. Apparently Zona doesn’t have great NI.
  3. Certainly been interesting to watch McDermott’s system in a B1G environment because this crew is letting St John’s mug them. Pitino’s got to be thrilled with this whistle.
  4. I think so, too. But they have a fairly ridiculous number of 1 possession wins. May has to get those better at finishing teams off.
  5. Wow, straight broke Wolf’s ankles and then pulled the string. That one’s gonna sting.
  6. Of course, just hire a great coach. Should have thought of that. 2 things: 1) Every single great coach in the history of sports, not 1 exception, has at some point in their career not been viewed as great. So, are you comfortable with hiring a guy that has great traits but has yet to actually be great? Example: You’d take Nate Oats, right? When Bama hired him he’d coached 4 years in the MAC, won 1 conference title and 2 NCAA tournament games and that was his resume. Anybody who says they knew he was great is lying their a$$ off. You willing to take a shot on a resume like that? 2) If no, how are you poaching a guy already viewed as great? To paraphrase the legendary Noho Hank from Barry, “You want to stand outside Great Coach Hotel with help wanted sign?” Those guys have giant buyouts, massive cache and all the resources they could want, otherwise they wouldn’t still be where they are. You ain’t just writin’ a big check and stealing one of those guys. To me, it’s not complicated. 1) You identify the traits you believe are necessary to succeed in your specific environment, 2) You identify candidates who possess those traits, 3) You gauge interest and proceed accordingly. It’s not complicated. It’s also not easy.
  7. We’re not conditioning ourselves to it. Kicking guys around is what there is to do. Yesterday it was Brownell for a few hours. We had Chris Beard day a few days ago. McCollum had a day in there. Once the season’s over I’m sure there will be more focus. Until then what else do we have to do?
  8. The rehab job I was thinking about, courtesy of the Wichita State game, is Gregg Marshall. He was quite the candidate around here in the Archie cycle. You know a dude is an irredeemable POS when a guy was as successful as he was and when he goes away no one EVER tries to bring him back. Whatever the Chris Beard concerns are, he ain’t Gregg Marshall.
  9. Vaguely remember watching an entire morning of Beverly and Lester Quinones games. That would have been, what, 7,8 years ago? Unbelievable.
  10. Just got done watching the PU-Wisky rebroadcast. Painter’s never gonna sub Loyer out of that game, but he needed to. The last 4 mins the kid’s defense was straight up unplayable. That’s as mercilessly hunted as it gets and they distorted PU’s D on every possession. They’re a good team with a lot of experience but, man, if they catch the wrong matchup they can be the 3 or 4 seed that goes home day 1, no problem.
  11. Am I nuts to think Gard is NCOY? Floored by what he’s done. What 55yo dude who’s had solid results punts everything he’s done and completely remakes his roster and his offense and it just works? Massive respect.
  12. Wow. That is the ultimate “You had 1 job!”
  13. Weird as it sounds given the million page firing thread, but I’m not sure everyone has an appropriate appreciation for just how badly Woody and Archie have done. A guy like Cronin or someone at a comparable level with the resources here would never, ever, miss the tournament. In a bad year they’re top 1/2 of the conference. That is minimum expectation and there are so many guys who could get that done. I honest to God don’t know who they could reasonably consider who’s not an upgrade.
  14. That did not happen!?!?
  15. Temperament is, no kidding, probably the most important single thing in this process imo. And Williams might ordinarily concern me, except for 2 factors here: 1} His 2 years with Crean and the fact that they’re still in touch. In the course of researching the job a guy probably can’t get more candid accurate feedback than he would get from Crean. 2) The last 8 years have set the next guy up to be loved if he’s good.
  16. You read that and you don’t like that guy I’ve got nothin’ for you.
  17. What that would say is that Scott believes any competent professional CBB coach can win with Indiana resources. I agree with that, but that’s not where you start. That’s where you end up.You start with the best guy you can get and in no universe is Brownell the best guy you can get. He’s not one of the 10 best. What he is is the simplest guy you can get.
  18. I love that guy. His teams play with their hair on fire for 40 every night and even with the talent gap they just never stop competing.
  19. Have heard worse ideas. Tell you what would be awesome about that: Amaker comes to Bloomington and wins a Natty. As he’s being interviewed with confetti in his hair and One Shining Moment blasting away he looks straight into the camera and tells Krzyzewski to F himself for blocking him from getting the Duke job. Would be the greatest flex ever.
  20. Never gonna happen in Bloomington in a million years, but some AD who’s secure in his position and doesn’t care about winning the presser, maybe 1 of the 2 Florida schools, is gonna take Shaheen Holloway out of that Seton Hall NIL hellscape and in 2 or 3 years is gonna look pretty freaking smart. I know it’s his alma mater, but he’s a really good coach and that’s a really bad deal and he’s not going to stay there and get his brains beat in for 15 years because they have no money.
  21. Seems incredibly happy at ISU. Talks borderline gushy about the place. Signed an extension, I believe, last year. Were he actually available he’d be my number 1 and maybe my 1 and only. Love him.
  22. I swear to God, anybody busting out the “Stevens has a latent coaching itch he’s just gotta scratch” stuff ever again fully deserves the Patrick Swayze Roadhouse throat rip right then and there. Never Again
  23. Welcome, Sir. And this right here is exactly why, as Hovadipo mentioned a while back, that Brad Stevens/IU would be the Dodgers of NIL.
  24. In fairness, if Colin Farrell was a CBB coach he wouldn’t look like Colin Farrell, either. Probably closer to Rick Majerus.
  25. Don’t get me wrong, like hearing this stuff as much as anyone, but to paraphrase Snoop from “The Wire”, they need to shut the F up. Noting good comes from them running their mouths. Not a single thing.
