NOLA Hoosier replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I tell myself this every game. It’s every other nut job UL/UK fan here that acts like their lives depend on sports teams they have no real stake in. When I worked as a server and would wear something IU-related, people wanted to get into verbal and (once) physical fights with me. It’s ridiculous. -

I feel like Crean teams were the same way. He was way more a philosophical coach than an X’s and O’s guy...not sure what Archie is exactly. Chris Beard at IU could be legendary. Unfortunately that will never, ever happen. -

I want to thank you for your levelheaded approach. I’d like to see more winning, but I totally agree with your last couple sentences. IU as a top “Public Ivy” university with student athletes is always number one; compromising any of that integrity just to win at sports is a dark road to go down. I heard someone mention Pitino here. I’d burn every single piece of IU gear I owned if that happened. We had two decades of dominance, not many schools can boast that, but I just don’t think it will happen again like we hope. On the other extreme, I’d like to win but I don’t like the way the university overcompensates and ties the hands of coaches on every little thing, not to mention this AD search committee and yes-men and all that other bureaucracy that comes along with it. I want to like Archie, but I have serious reservations about him and the admins from the top on down. Time will tell, I suppose. -

Rob Dauster of NBC Sports just said Arkansas may be a top 3 SEC team...not like that’s not hard to be, but still. -

100% on Archie. This game was in the bag. If anyone was waiting for a perfect example to point to, this is the one. -

Officiating is atrocious. If you’re not gonna call anything at first, don’t start calling everything all of a sudden. Get in ‘em, Arch. -

They are gonna just keep chucking them. And it’s gonna be that kinda night -
UL had every opportunity to put that away. Ouch. Also, I’ll echo I’m glad we didn’t get Brooks.

Correct on both accounts. This game however is just a MESS. Officials killing any kind of momentum.

UK up by 8 at the half. What a terrible, terrible 20 minutes of basketball.
-
Well they don't call it "Corrupt Arena" for nothin'. One of the reasons why I'd hate IU to play there. Also something about all that blue just initiates my gag reflex...
-
Maybe too early, but so far this is looking like a low-scoring slugfest.
-
The B1G-ACC draw could've been a lot better, that's for sure. Notre Dame is always fun to beat, but yeah it's been pretty yawn. I could really give a s**t about Arkansas...I think they're trying to start a rivalry but I don't think anyone is buying it.

I don't know, horse racing is pretty much all anyone talks about down here in April-May. But then again, it is Kentucky.
-
THIS. It's the natural order of things to ebb and flow. When the rules change, we are gonna see awesome things again like player development for 4 years, which made the college game so interesting in the first place. In regards to IU, being a dominant program for two whole decades then pretty much irrelevant for two whole decades, something's bound to swing back the other way soon. Also UofL-pUKe game tonight...who else is rooting for Rupp to spontaneously combust due to decades of bad energy finally destroying itself?

Always good to see my alma mater of Floyd Central go down. Hated every second I was in that building (although after the reno's it's barely recognizeable)
-
I'm absolutely in favor of playing Kansas or having another UofL game every year, especially a team like Kansas who thinks their basketball traditions run so much deeper than ours. pUKe will clearly be off the table for the rest of Cryin' Cal's tenure there so let's move on already. Screw 'em.

I'm getting to the point where I'd be happy to never play Kentucky in anything ever again. Yes, beating them 2/3 times the last few meetings was cool, but I'm just sick of hearing about them, even in reference to us. There are other big teams it would be way more interesting to play than a team who steamrolls their football conference every year and gets a high seeding because of it in March. It's exhausting being an IU fan in Louisville.

Kelvin Sampson helps IU break into the 25 and 1 at number 26.
