  1. I am also optimistic about next year, because the roster structure seems more adequate. Right now, we're leaning completely on a freshman PG and do not have someone capable of acting as a true post defender outside of an undersized Juwan. The thing that will likely still haunt us is that unless Damezi improves his defense, Al continues to progress with his shooting and plays into a starter or 6 man role, and Armaan is a legitimate off the bench shooting threat, I'm not sure we've addressed our shooting issues. Maybe the interior presence of TJD helps create more spacing, but adding Keion would really help our team offensively.
  2. That’d be great. It’s not going to happen this year. Outside of the starting five from last night there’s clearly no one else able to step up. I was directly responding to the previous page where people were worried about recruiting slowing down. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  3. Guys there are no signs of our recruiting slowing down. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  5. Calm down Joe, no one called you stupid. Whether you’re swine or not, only you know that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  6. Go dig up my posts before the season started. You’ll see that I said we were screwed because we didn’t have a proven PG and we had no interior presence outside of Juwan who is a 4. Also called out that there are too many of Crean’s guys. No one is going to pat you on the back for being negative and stating the obvious. Oh! Also said that if McBob was starting we were in trouble because that would signal none of the high potential guys developed enough replace him. I’ll take my apology too please!
  7. This is nuanced approach that some are claiming is one sided sunshine pumping. This team is BROKE. They are not responding to Archie’s system, and I highly doubt they figure it out. That said, I don’t know how you can tell if Archie’s system works or not until year three or four with his recruiting classes and time for him to develop seniors in his system. We pull this with a senior Rob Phinisee, system don’t work. Right now? Who knows - can’t tell what’s broken in a hurricane. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  8. That hasn’t changed. This is year is trash. That’s a fact. The team was doing great, and I don’t know what the catalyst was other then injuries, but the wheels fell off. I’m still looking at year three and four as years where there are no excuses about not having the right guys for the system. You won’t see me bail until then at the earliest. If you’re hoping for change sooner, don’t hold your breath. Administration is probably willing to give him five or six years. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  12. You guys should go pat each other’s backs offline. And you better believe Vanderbilt is going to give Drew more time after bringing in one of the top recruiting classes in the country to a perennial house of laughs they call a basketball program. This doesn’t mean you can’t also believe Drew is a terrible coach. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  13. My problem with Green is that the team is struggling and needs leadership more than anything, and he goes and gets suspended for whatever reason. Just disappointing that he could have chosen to be part of a solution and didn't.
  14. Can you point me to a time in the past 10 years where this phrase wasn’t applicable? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  15. Change is painful. I will wait till year four to decide whether it's working or not.
  16. My recommendation is to not look at this as a short term problem and solution. Whether we make the tournament this year or not doesn't actually demonstrate whether we've solved the long term issue that Indiana is a broken program with no culture. A majority of coaches aren't going to fix anything in one year. Many examples have been given to show that two years isn't long term enough either. Maybe year three? No one can say for certain how long a rebuild or restart is supposed to take. Understand that the administration is taking a long term approach to this fix, hence the seven year contract, and will be patient because you don't fix this mess in the short term. I believe when Archie signed he even stated that it takes approximately three years to fully implement his defense. For context, here's a nice article from when he was hired that details how he made his program at Dayton - https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2018/02/27/iu-basketballs-archie-miller-unbending-coach-unshakeable-confidence/379606002/ Here's a quote from Archie in the subsequently linked article: “Culture is five or six years down the road – whatever they say about Indiana at that point, we’ve earned. But we don’t have one yet.” https://sports.yahoo.com/news/clean-office-clean-slate-archie-millers-reboot-indiana-starting-scratch-220143659.html Archie and the administration know that sustained success is going to take time to create. Archie's steps to make this happen are to: Establish a defensive identity that grows into a culture; and Recruit the state and sign the top talent On those, the identity and culture are clearly a work in progress. That takes years to develop. On the second, I would have thought that would take more time as well, but I'm giving Archie an A+ in that category. Archie sold and the administration bought a roadmap that spans three or more years, and you'll never see the progress if you convince yourself it's really a one year solution.
  17. You might not be, but all it takes is logic and honesty. I think you’re spot on here. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  18. Honestly, even more impressive Archie landed him. Granted, he was Louisville bound if they didn’t get in trouble, but surprised that no other blue blood who he also wasn’t a fan of didn’t beat us out. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  19. Painter is a guy who’s had years and many recruiting cycles to create the culture he wants. He’s got Purdue in a pretty good place as a program. Agree with Aloha - they clearly seem to have a ceiling. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  21. Is he teachable? Asking honestly. I know Marion under JB Sr. runs a high powered offense with less than impressive defense. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  22. Unfortunate for Hart, but great for us! He’ll be called up sooner rather than later. Hope we can get another couple years from him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  23. The Movement was Crean’s shot at creating a top ranked “homegrown” class. It was his shot at locking down the borders. Maybe the staff threw caution to the wind and went against better judgement? Other than Yogi, that class was the cultural cancer that took down Crean. They were the start of the failed drug tests, legal issues, drinking issues, and general attitude issues. The players that followed were ones that related to and bonded with those guys. It created an environment where a really talented and hard working kid like Troy Williams who was also susceptible to poor decision making was constantly presented with one right decision and ten bad ones. Not an environment for success. Even someone of high character like Yogi fell into the trap more than once. The opposite is why I believe what Archie is doing will work in the long run. You wonder if Archie continues to start McBob for reasons unrelated to on court performance. He was made captain for a reason as well. But once that culture is established, it becomes easier for everyone to make the right decisions. Those around them will present more right options than wrong ones. And the group will attract the kids who feel comfortable in that culture instead of one we saw under Crean. Instead of a cancer, we end up with a continuous cycle of growth and learning. 24. And i see that last part happening which is why I’m patient. The product on the floor is UGLY. But we’re loading up with high quality four year players (Race, Damezi, Armaan, Phin) and landing 5*’s to supplement and provide that spark. That’s the recipe that has worked everywhere. EDIT: @ mods feel free to move - conversation naturally lead here but probably better suited in a different thread Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
