1.
It is the same that it has always been. I started posting on sports message boards in 1995 or 1996...the original IndyStar boards did not even require registration, anyone could post under any name they saw fit for any given post. RMK fan versus anti-RMK fan was very much a thing at that time leading up to Bobby's firing. Of course the dynamic was different, obviously RMK had an established track record. But the anti-RMK sentiment was based on the game passing him by and the time being right for a chance. During the Mike Davis era/fiasco, whichever description you prefer, you had the dynamic of people who would defend the existing coach to death versus those who did not buy in. Although honestly a lot of the MD debate in his early days revolved around RMK loyalists against people who wanted to give the new coach a chance. One of the unfortunate side affects of the Internet in general is that people start to take their own opinion too seriously and they start rooting for their own opinion just to have the chance to tell the other guy/gal that hey, I called it and in your face! I'm right and you are wrong! Even if we root for the same freaking team! But...it is the way it has been for a long time. The advent of the Tom Crean era at IU did not start the trend, it simply is the way the internet works.
Nailed it Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
2. ^^^^ I am sure I will piss some people off with that.  Sorry if I offended anyone.  I just want people to act like adults.  I really don't want to have to deal with this "I told you so" crap from either side anymore.  Neither side is right at this point.  Neither side will ever truly know how much goes into a decision such as this.  His basketball coaching abilities at this point aren't everything to the university.  If people quit donating at record numbers, then his in game coaching will be a problem.
3. I just don't see why one group didn't participate in a game thread.  As long as you don't act like an ass and can play with the rules, you should come on the game thread.  If you can't get your point across during a game without acting like a jackass you shouldn't be on there.  If you can't make it through a game without saying xxxx player or coach is an idiot (because it is personal), you shouldn't be on there.  If you said, "I don't understand why xxxx player or coach did…" then you are fine.  I am going to take that as you saying you don't think a group of people can play by the rules.  If that is the case they shouldn't be on during the game.  We value everyone who participates in any thread, but this us vs. them attitude is getting to be complete bullshit.  I graduated from IU.  I live and breath that damn school.  We are all here for the same damn reason.  It is sad that a group of grown ass men can't hold a conversation without being butthurt at someone not holding their opinion on a subject.  Heaven forbid we disagree on the internet.  There is no right or wrong in this.  I wish people would realize that.  If Crean gets fired in 3 years, who is right?  I can sling shit at a wall and see if it sticks too.  After 5 years of him not being fired are the people saying he will be fired wrong?  Or do they keep on saying it will happen at any time?  Seriously, this is the one thread that could be open for years.  I hope we are able to keep it open until he does get fired so we can look back at some of the ridiculous "absolutes" throughout here.  I love you guys, but you can really kill a good buzz.     …. drops mic  :shout:
4.   Why not?
5.   Yeah, I am about ready to start a poll lol.  Seems like the best way to resolve this.
6. Ha, #2 was spelled too good.
7.   But that is the thing though.  I know you are a smart dude, and I know you know that a huge part of CTC offense is the break and the secondary break.  Getting quick shots before the defense gets set.  Our half court leaves a lot to be desired for.  A lot of people said the same thing with Pitino's Cardinals last year before they got going.  It is amazing how much shots falling skews the perception.  There are only a handful of teams that truly run a solid half court man.  I mean that sincerely, because this argument is so old.  Watch a team for 30+ games and try to not pick apart an aspect of their game.  I think only Coach K and Billy Donovan run an offense that is "appealing" to me.  Beyond that, everyone runs a gimmick offense that is based on players being able to make plays.  Those 2 coaches put players in good spots consistently.  They are the only 2 coaches who I can say that about that I have watched regularly.
8.   I think he has some serious in game faults.  I know after beating Wisconsin nobody had more top 25 wins than us over the last 3 seasons other than Kansas.  I am not sure where things stand on that now, but the dude gets them ready to play.  I am not saying it is always pretty.  It is not.  I am often disappointed and confused on the offensive side.  Its funny because we were a top offensive team last year.  People still hated it.  At this point, I think people either like him, or they don't.  As a mod, I have seen this conversation a bunch.  It is one of the most tiring arguments and always ends the same way.  I just don't want to see people get banned over something so stupid that literally has been beaten to death, revived, and beaten to death again.
9. ^^^^^ What this guy said.  People have an opinion of Crean based on other things besides his coaching.  In this thread, I have seen him called a snake, and a used car salesman.  That has nothing to do with coaching, which is what those same people pointed to as the reason he shouldn't be here.  I am guessing coaching isn't really what they dislike about the man.
10. Back off of the ledge everyone or this is getting locked.  No need for the pot shots on either sides.  I laid out the ways to close this.  No need for the drama.  Stop making everything personal, even if it is toward Crean.
11. The only time I hate this argument is when one side acts like you are not a true fan if you don't give your undivided devotion to Tom Crean.  As well as when the other side gives absolutes such as, "I guarantee you he will not win a title".  Really?  How can one guarantee anything?  Mike Davis was 40 minutes from winning one.  If people would just remember that everyone here is an IU fan.  Just because they don't hold the same opinion does not make them less of an IU fan.  Some have higher expectations, and some feel continuity is the only way to get to those expectations.  Just don't question anyone's loyalty when debating this, as well as follow the rules and the mods are cool.
12.   Yeah, I never had any issues with him on a personal level.  As a moderator, he is a nightmare.  It isn't because of his views either. I have a lot of similar views as him.  He is probably someone I would sit and have a beer with.  He is just someone that creates drama, then becomes a victim on a message board due to his tone towards others.  Rinse and repeat daily 365 days a year.
13. I am really indifferent on Dakich when he is just calling the game.  When I take issue with him is when he becomes holier than thou.  When he talks about how dumb internet fans are, but then tries discussing the things they talk about to put his opinion out there against theirs.  In all honesty, dude reminds me of GoColts.  Polarizing figure.  Some love him, and a lot don't.  People got tired of debating with him, because there was never a debate.  It was always his way, or you were stupid.  If you had a way of doing things he wouldn't do, you were stupid.  I don't mind people who talk to me like that, because it makes them look like the bigger idiot.  I should know, I would get the PMs all of the time from people going off.  At some point, people get tired of that person outside of a select few.  Then, they quietly go away, because there aren't any more people who care to interact with that person.  I should add, I actually liked GC as the commenter when he wasn't playing up the victim role.  After all of these years, he might be the most victimized poster on the internet.
14.   We don't ask much, but you can see what I changed.
15.   Well, Mike Davis has more title games than Bo Ryan.  Lol, no reason for that stat, just wanted to throw it out there.
16.   True, but if the AD were to go to them and make them feel like they have input on the next BB Coach at IU, they wouldn't go at his head.  If they hated him or Crean at this point lets be real.  That athletic department would not have got the money they have the last 5 years.  Money is coming in at a record pace.  That will be the telling sign whether or not the boosters believe in Crean or Glass.
17.   I don't think they would want Glass gone, because everything else he has done.  Not just in sports, but updating facilities in multiple areas.  I think he is one of the top ADs we have had ever already.  Plus, I don't think it would be hard to explain the situation we were in, and Crean wasn't his guy.  The situation we were in he had to overpay who wanted to be here.  Coming from where we were, and the excitement Crean got up front, it is easy to see why he did what he did.  I don't think any of the donors would have a problem with Glass.  They have seen in other sports and areas what he has done.
18.   Lol, I am indifferent on Tom Crean, but Vitale hasn't known which train he was on since Bill Clinton was a cigar connoisseur.
19.   If Glass went to donors and said Crean can't get it done, he could easily raise the money for a buyout.  He would also have the money to pay any coach in America if he went to people and said that is who would get it done.  Obviously his neck would be on the line, but this is IU.  If you make the move to your Coach (Crean was not his), then you live and die with them.
20.   I felt the same yesterday.  Unfortunately.  I haven't seen that at IU in a while.  I am kind of worried for the summer to see where we go heading into next season.
21.  Welcome to the site, and excellent 1st post.  I can definitely see where you are coming from, and I am similar in position to you.  I do differ that Crean does have the knowledge to teach fundamentals, he just doesn't.  Its not something he looks at.  He tries overanalyzing everything to the point where some of these "simpler" things get lost, and could save him and his players a lot of issues.  I think that is the biggest thing with this team.  Only a couple of players have solid basic fundamentals.  It doesn't even look like street ball anymore.  It looks like 5 individuals without a plan after the first couple of minutes.  Once IU gets punched in the mouth, they vary away from what they are doing.  Not saying what they are doing would get us to victory, but it is obvious when they do it.
22. Nope, and as with most boards if someone wants to openly be a dbag they will be treated as such.  You are 100% correct on your assessment good sir.
23. Ha, it has been like that since the late 80s my man.
24. After the whole Luke Fischer thing, I am trying to reassess my wants vs. needs with this woman.
25. He is in B'town for Spring Semester!
