  1. I agree. I hope someone puts the pressure on with the next hire. Before there were so many variables involved that did not include basketball which is BS. This next hire needs to absolutely be about the best coach. That's it. We don't need black, white, Boy Scout coach. We need the best coach.
  2. True but would our department pay his $2+ million over 5 years and say $3.5 million for our next coach at the same time? I also don't think he sits on the sidelines, but you have to plan on paying for it until it is certain you are not.
  3. Yep and I truly think this should be looked at when making a decision. We have to go with known commodity to help our value. I know with Crean circumstances were different but we still have the ability to hit a homerun.
  4. I hope we don't wait 2 years to make a decision. All July 1... That was smart on his part.
  5. It drops after July 1. It's essentially $11 million or he is coming back next year. No way a decision is made that late. It starts dropping quick after next year.
  6. Crean's numbers may have dropped from Sampson in "value" but we absolutely could be easily worse. Glass may have to look at this the way you want from a marketing perspective but please answer the other questions I laid out. You can only market what your business side provides you with. Please, answer what I asked while looking at this from his perspective.
  7. All I am ultimately saying is as a fan base we have to find a way to reach Glass on his level for a change. I don't feel a change will be made for the sake of change. I think too much is invested in his decision from a personal perspective after he made the extension. We all know how dumb that was in hindsight. The boosters at this point will have to make this decision IMO.
  8. Ok Mike. If we are to look at this from just a marketing perspective, then how is hiring Archie Miller or someone of that ilk going to be perceived by the average fan? The fan that makes up the majority of Hoosier fans? We are just talking about our brand here. How from a business perspective can you sell your donors on anything less than a Donovan, Stevens, or a championship coach if you are Glass? How can you go to boosters for $11 million for anything less than a homerun after you signed him to that extension? I mean, let's look at this from a realistic standpoint. You are in marketing. You just were signed to a large account only 3 years in to it you realize you made a mistake in some of the decisions you made in the campaign. Do you go to your bosses and try and sell them on anything less than a homerun when you know your job is now dependent on this decision?
  9. True, but our rise in "business" in value ranking is adequate to what it has been over that period.  Say we look at just value ranking which seems more reasonable since we don't know what is all included, we are still top 10 in all of the nation in basketball.  That is pretty damn solid.  As for the fanboy comments, you don't hear many looking at this from a business perspective.  You don't see the fact that Glass has to accommodate a $11 million buyout to please the masses.  Or our "value" is not being diminished to a damaging level.  We have dropped a couple of spots, but that is to be expected.  We (as in every person in this thread not liking the position we are in) are looking at this from a I am a fan and I don't think Crean can get us to where we belong view.  Glass has a wider  sense than that.  Yet he is the one being called a fanboy.  That is where that comes from.  We are all guilty of that.  That is just fandom.  If you don't like that, so be it.  But, from a business perspective, we have went from Mike Davis, Kelvin Sampson debacle, and now Crean, and we are a top ten valued program.  I wish we could get numbers on where we were when we went from Knight to Davis.  I am guessing we were top 2-3 valued programs (Forbes since they are the ones being sited).
  10. My bad.  It was team value.  But those have used as attendance revenue numbers through forbes before (at the end of every year they posted 'attendance values'.  They changed the name of them.  Not sure if they took out aspects of this?  So that would not be a true representation.  I remember in 2012 we had a value + merchandise of $39,000,000.  We were ranked in the top 10 that year too.  I would be very surprised if the number that would be close to $30,000,000 isn't the attendance numbers as well as the $22,000,000 you had.  I don't think it includes concessions, but used to involve merchandise as well.  I will have to look for those numbers.  With it being a state school they have to put them out there.
  11. The revenue you cited was $22 million. We are up to just shy of $30 million.
  12. I 100% agree with you. Hell I have been booing at games. This is the problem with a fractured fan base.
  13. In ranking? Yes by a couple of spots. In revenue? No. We have increased revenue by over 30%.
  14. I changed it. I completely agree with you. I think at some point the athletic department is going to have to pony up to keep boosters around. These up and comers just haven't worked out for us.
  15. Thats the thing. People don't realize how little our team actually makes in the scheme of things. With merchandising we are close to $40 million. -1%? That is typical fluctuation. Unfortunately for us we either need arrests or boosters to get pissed. Our little notes to Glass just make him laugh. This is why. We as fanboys need to realize that by opening our eyes. It isn't Glass needing to open his eyes. He can see quite well.
  16. Another thing we need to remember is the networks purchase rights to games far in advance. If we start losing ESPN and CBS games they will take notice. Part of that is expectations of a team and how safe a bet is people will watch. Fewer viewers against Random State means nothing because it is a fixed resource of a conference network revenue. IMO conference stations have saved his job to this point. If this were the 90s, and our football revenue were less than basketball he would already be gone. There is no incentive to schedule top games for Glass. In basketball every IU game minus a game or 2 will be on BTN. One game will be on ESPN due to B1G vs ACC. One will be on due to the crossroads. Then we usually always have one more for a random Gtown or Louisville. Notice a trend? Every year we have had this fixed amount on these stations. Say we have had 3 games of 7500 people not showing up. Say on average that costs the department on average $60 per person which is high. That's 1.35 million. On merchandise let's say 500,000-1,000,000. At most we are less than $2.5 million from the previous year. That is nothing considering we just made a bowl in Football. Plus us going to Maui more than makes up for that. Plus playing lesser teams and what we have to pay them offsets what we have lost. Us against Duke was one of the highest rated games so far. I just think we on this board have little concept of what Glass looks at.
  17. The problem is it has only been that way for a couple of games. The games where it wasn't sold out were games we historically didn't due to the time they were scheduled. Students on vacation. Now if we do that against OSU then ok. Our revenue from attendance is nothing in the scheme of things. We have always been lucky to be just in the $30-40 million range. Say we have so far from a few games lost out on what amounts to $500,000-$1,000,000. Do you really think in a business that Glass is overlooking where we are better than normal due to football he is concerned? I highly doubt he is thinking let's round up $11 million for less than Brad Stevens. His department brings in over $150-200 million in revenues plus booster money. I think you guys blow out of proportion what we have truly lost out on. The picture is bigger than Crean or Glass. I truly hope you guys start seeing that to understand why things are the way they are. This is a business and we are the fanboys.
  18. I think that's just natural. Everyone wants that.
  19. They hit their goals in that area? You know that. I am very happy the job Glass is doing. He continually makes our whole athletic department better. From a structural perspective. Grade perspective. It is a lot better than when I was there. That's his job. That was what the university set up to do 25 years ago. You know that. I want Crean gone. I want Stevens here. At this point that is the only person that will bring in the revenue for Glass to make a change without arrests or bad grades. Colts you know that as an alum.
  20. I do go back to the term fanboy as it is meant to be derogatory and still find it humorous. As we are describing ourselves to a T when making this decision. Glass is looking at the whole picture. We look at one aspect. That is the definition of a fanboy. I want Crean gone. I want Stevens here. But it's because I am a fanboy. Not Glass.
  21. How so in college basketball? We are IU. We are on ESPN and CBS numerous times throughout the year regardless.
  22. IMO that is why Brad Stevens is the only answer. He could easily have more of a backing generating more donations for the Athletic Department. Until Crean bottoms out on donations the others we discuss will be lucky to pull the revenue Creandoes from the big donors. I think Glass only wants to work with guarantees after his extension. Brad Stevens.
  23. Its not that they don't care but see my post above. I see a lot of people call Glass a fanboy yourself included. If we are to look at the whole situation objectively wouldn't it be the exact opposite?
  24. I just don't think they agree with you. Merchandise and booster money is where it's at. They are still right where they expect to be. That's their bottom line. Yours as a fan is W-L. Theirs as a department is money. They set goals yearly and every time I have been to a speaking engagement they seem very happy about that. Any time I am around Bloomington something new is coming up. So I do believe they are getting done what they want as a department.
