Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

I really hope not. As someone who at IU when the whole Eric Gordan thing happened, I still harbor some real fan hatred for that dude. Plus I think he's thrown some shots at IU on twitter in recent years. -

Yeah man. It does. Take the personal stuff to DMs. Relitigate the search elsewhere. Time to talk about the future. -

Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

He doesn't really run an Archie pack-line defense. There are some pack-line principles positioning wise but his players seem much more free to come out to their man and deny passes. I'm not an expert though so I'll defer to anyone who knows more. -
Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

Good morning, fellow idiots! I watched a couple of WVU games last night and thought I share a few quick observations. 1) DeVries: Very calm during the game. Not a yeller/screamer but still engaged. 2) Defense: The defense really stands out. Players are very active and very handsy -- getting into passing lanes and deflecting. They are intent on disrupting opposing offenses and are successful more often than not. 3) Offense: Tempo is the big talking point after looking at the numbers. I'll say the offense isn't boring. It's not a slog to watch. There's a lot of movement and cutting that creates really good shots. They will go deep into the shot clock but will also take advantage of transition opportunities and quick scores when they're available. Speaking of transition, rebounding is another thing that really stands out. They are good on the defensive boards but don't crash the offensive glass seeming to prefer getting back to prevent opposing transition opportunities. So don't expect Izzo like second and third chance offense. But like I noted above, the offense generates really good looks and shots. You're fine with this approach as long as you have good shooters/talent making the most of those opportunities. Lastly, the games I watched were both WVU losses. The team never quit or seem disengaged. Just some first impressions and I'll also say that DeVries's "style" is really hard to pin down from looking at KenPom and Torvik numbers. He's kind of been all over the place which either means he doesn't have an identity or he tailors his style to his personnel. I'm leaning toward the truth being the latter based on what I watched. -

So we got Mag and RTZ out here with their proverbial **cks in the wind. I'm rooting for you guys. A turn around to big name at this point would be stunning. -

Somehow getting Mullins to decommit from UConn would go a loooong way towards getting a lot of fans on board. Not saying it's likely. But it'd be pretty cool if it happened. -

Not particularly exciting. Not the big hire. Just win basketball games. A lot of them. -

The roller coaster feels a lot more real today. Still not 100% buying DeVries but wouldn't be shocked. -

I think the search is done and has been for a while. the only uncertainty was whether IU would make the tournament. It’s all logistical at this point: When, where, and how. -

Galen Clavio made a good point that nobody has entered the portal yet. I was shocked we didn't see any names yesterday and am more surprised there haven't been any names today. I don't think Dolson gave the players a name but one explanation is that he gave them enough to hold off until it's announced. -

I don't know man. I think this could be a thing. I have very much been keeping BS hope alive but trying to avoid putting on a tin foil hat of my own. Watch Goodman break it and say something like he's "had a feeling this was a possibility for the past week or so" to cover his bases. -

I think he'd only sit on it if he got assurances that he could be the one to break it. And to get very conspiratorial, his relationship with Stevens would play into that. -

I also think it's worth noting that Goodman did his podcast (Goodman and Hummel) live stream on YouTube right after he sent the DeVries tweet and brushed right past the topic on the show. They were talking about WVU being snubbed from the tournament and he said something to the effect of "and DeVries could be on the move to Iowa or Indiana but we won't talk about that right now". If he really had something, he'd want to talk about it for at least 5 minutes so they can pull the clip and post it separately on YouTube with an Indiana specific title "DeVries on his way to INDIANA????" for clicks. Feels like just the next leverage play being pushed through Goodman. -

Eh, I don't think Goodman trolls for pure love of the game like Isaac but I'm wholly believe he hears things from the agent/coach side and does favors by blasting this stuff out to maintain good will with coaches and athletic departments. Access is everything to someone like Goodman. It's his trade. -

This doesn't smell right. Same pattern of agent driven stuff. Beard, Brownell, McCollum, now DeVries.
