I don’t see it , Iowa is likely already limited financially and they can easily pivot to McCollum . They would likely tell him hey we understand best of luck . They know they can’t compete with IU they would call his bluff .

Some interesting Non - IU related coaching search tidbits. Well maybe IU related.......... Texas A&M AD has started lining up a short list, believes their is a chance that Buzz could be dipping after the season (kind of his MO when you look at his resume) 2 New names for Nova , Malik Allen (idk) and Steven Pickell ? What does that mean for Collins he just staying at NW ? Many people believe UVA has Odom locked into a commitment as soon as VCU is done. Didn't mention this but if that's the case I would imagine NC State makes a strong push for Wade unfortunately

I would personally take DeVries over McCollum especially since his son is gonna get another year. But he's got Kory Bennett and Tom Ostrom on his staff in his ear I can't imagines he has heard 1 positive thing about Indiana and its basketball program AT ALL . I know this isn't a deciding factor and DeVries is free to make his own choices but lets not act like it wouldn't have an impact.

Then why is Iowa presumably going to stretch themselves financially to NOT hire a guy who is in their own backyard? I just have a hard time diving into the deep end on a guy 99.9% of you didn't even know they existed 3 months ago. Not gonna rehash our arguments from last week its just too big a risk, if he's truly the only option then sure give him a shot BUT plenty of smoke that suggest Will Wade is willing to listen WAY less of a risk makes much more sense. McCollum is the risk hire you make if you have no other options

Also if Iowa is going after DeVries over Golden boy then why should we be so excited about getting McCollum?

Did a little more research, Fran's buyout just north of 4 million. signed an extension in 2021 through 2028. On the hook for 60% percent of the base salary for every year left on the contract payable through the remaining years so about 1.4 million a year for the next 3 years. That's not pennies on the dollar from what people say about Iowa financially. Add that to DeVries 4.6 buyout and the rumors of his concern with Iowa's NIL as it is plus rev share with Mens Football and Womens Bball I think Iowa will look elsewhere IMO. Maybe those NIL and Rev share things mentioned above drives McCollum to pursue IU instead of Iowa ? a possibility but if I had to bet if its not DeVries its McCollum for the Hawkeyes. if DeVries is not announced to Iowa by Thursday then IMO its McCollum

Here is the problem not only does he have an almost 5 million dollar buyout, but what are they paying to fire Fran as well? I'd imagine he got some sort of raise / extension during the Garza / Murray years? I think they go to McCollum because of this Iowa can't afford DeVries and I think in the back of his mind he knows Iowa will be immensely less pressure filled if he leaves Drake at all hes a cautious dude looking at his resume. It doesn't have to be hard man go hire Will Wade 90 percent of the fan base would be thrilled, could recruit at an Elite level and I bet we'd be next years UM!

He shouldn't tweet anything about 18 year old kid without direct permission from the kid or his parents period Its really NOT that hard. If the kid plans to enter the portal he will put out a statement then you can write or tweet / article. Shows how desperate he is getting IMO

Answered my question from earlier. Now what would be interesting is to see who if anyone enters the portal within the next couple of days. If someone like Malik of MM doesn't enter the portal before in the next couple of days then that would peak my curiosity

I will say with IU out of the tourney that is the game I'm most looking forward to watching not only because I obviously want to see Purdue lose to a 13 seed, but I honestly think I'd rather have Huss than McCollum. The highest Mid-Major guy on my list. - Spent years under McDermott a successful power 4 coach -Coached / Recruited kids it takes to win a the Big Ten level - Obviously has BIG TIME prep school connections having coached at LaLu but also probably would do well in the State of Indiana with LaLu being located in the state. I still think Will Wade in the best / most obvious realistic choice but just no indication IU in willing to look in his direction .

It doesn't really matter at this point, its another hire of uncertainty another hey it could work maybe but also it could not and we continue the cycle. Was just really hoping / manifesting we could have "our program" moment. a Chance for fans to be able to talk a little sh** to the national media / Purdue and other Big Ten fans. A hire that makes them go "Woah IU isn't messing around !" I'm at the point where I think the most valuable thing Dolson could do right now is pay for a exorcism to cleanse this program. They can announce their intentions on entering . Many have already done so, also this is the wild west now-a-days many of them have agents that can talk with other schools before they get busy with the tournament so they can hit the ground running when that team is eliminated / the portal officially opens. But also not sure of Woodson's Official last day on the job and if that applies to the "fired/resigned coaching rule" That allows players of that school to enter the portal early. like UVA and Miami players did

Well since we probably don't get anything today (according to Jerry) my question is how many of our players announce today their intention of entering the transfer portal. my guess is the AD is going to let the guys enter / announce they are going into the portal with the idea they will have a coach in place and able to meet with them and discuss possibility of withdraw (If the coach / player wants that) before they would be able to commit. Though I think a vast majority of guys on the roster are gone and probably already know where they are going.

Bragging about hiring Ben McCollum over Brad Brownell is like bragging about being the the skinniest kid at fat camp . just can’t get excited about McCollum not when Will Wade is out there for the taking .

Hmmm UNC gets in the tourney because their AD is the chair of the selection committee and IU is left out and it officially ends the Mike Woodson era who got the job because how again ? ………… maybe their is such a thing as poetic justice? Ben McCollum or DeVries are not a home run hires or even a good ones of Will Wade out there and wants the job (hell even Rabby heard his people reached out) I refuse to truly believe Brownell is the hire unless Dolson got interfered with again but I can’t imagine who the hell in the AD likes Brownell that much
