You make the case we should hire a 60 year old coach every time. No more bridge talk bc of NIL. You’re 100% right. We don’t want a coach who has to learn and grow. We need a coach who knows what he needs to win, spend the NIL to get it done, then go win. See Cignetti for it working at IU. Why take a flier on potential. If a coach is here for 6-7 years but can win, then that’s all we need. The infrastructure is in place at IU. it just needs a strong coach. Then go hire a ready made, strong coach, every 6-7 years. If we can get a younger proven winner, even better.

Iowa may be a terrible job moving forward. Listening to a Michigan football podcast a few weeks back and they were saying IOWA NIL is in bad shape. They singed a bunch of contracts with players and then people didn’t donate. So 1 guy has been cutting checks to meet all the NIL deals through the end of the school year. Doesn’t sound like the type of situation that’s going to be a good place for any coach. NIL will go to football before basketball there as well.

Been thinking the same since the beginning. I think if a coach like Few or Pearl want to come, O think Dolson will hire them before taking a 40 year old. It’s a guaranteed good stretch for a coach of Few and Pearls caliber. And then do it again.

I think Otzelberger falls into the catergory you are looking for. He has excelled at ISU, which has lesser resources to use than IU. I also like Chris Collin’s but it’s the same argument, someone doing well for their current job. Otzelberger can also be here for 20 years as he is still only 47 years old. I don’t see how he would have a ceiling but Brownell or Collin’s wouldn’t. Brownell is not candidates that will be here for 20 years due to their age. And Brownell’s record is lacking imo. I don’t care where he went to high school and I don’t care to keep Calbert around either. Everytime he has been on staff the team has not excelled. His fault or not it’s been the reality. He was my favorite player growing up but that shouldn’t mean he gets a job out of loyalty. See Mike Woodson.

His teams played tough but offensively they were tough to watch. It would be more of the same had he been hired before.

Not sure about Baylor NIL, but the Big XII is ripe for picking up coaches. When profit sharing goes into effect the Big XII and ACC will fall behind the SEC and Big Ten. Ambitious couches will see the increased financial support offered at a school in the Big Ten/SEC as paramount to winning a championship. That’s why getting a solid coach is so important right now. The landscape is changing and IU has the opportunity to be elite again.

I’m not stressed about who they hire. I think it will be solid no matter who it is. Looking forward to finding out when the time comes.

It’s Brad Stevens imo. I don’t think Dusty signs an extension if IU is hard after him. And if IU went hard after Dusty, Michigan would have offered a lot more money to keep him with a higher buyout. Only reason to not push for Dusty is they have their guy and the only guy to have this early on is Stevens. I understand the idea of keeping things quiet but that’s where I’m at with it. I’m totally aware I could be wrong but I’m intrigued to see how it plays out.
