Add Kevin Willard to the list.

I’ll do what I’ve done the last 8 years. Won’t make an effort to get tickets to games. Watch from home if they are good and when they are bad I will just check the scores and dream for the day they take basketball seriously again.

I listened to a football podcast a couple months ago. They were saying Iowa NIL was in shambles. That 1 booster is footing the bill to finish out this year because other boosters didn’t pay what was committed to the players. So 1 guy is making sure people get what they are contractually obligated to get. That’s not a good situation. So yeah WV is in a much better spot.

Ready for Brownell?
-
So I missed 30 pages this morning it seems. What did I miss?
-
Cig coached at Bama and recruited top level talent. McCollum will need help with introductions to the Indiana high school scene. I’m a believer in NIL helping a new coach build a roster quickly. I also think there is some talent on the team and coming in next year.
-
I actually like McCollum. Dolson is smart enough to get a staff around him to help bridge any gap. He brought in Fife and Matta before. He will get a good GM in place. Which would be coming regardless and is already in place in other big ten schools.
-
If it’s not the A tier candidates I’d much rather take a swing at a guy like McCollum than someone like Brownell. Regardless of who the next coach is, the fanbase needs to back him. Show support and rally the program.
-
I didn’t know you wanted Brad Brownell so bad. Relax man. It will be ok.
-
I’m not worried about game planning. I’m worried about recruiting. IU has the NIL, get him some help landing the level of relent needed and he will win big.
-
I dunno. I was always no to luke warm on the Archie hire. This one I think can go a different way. I know it’s a lower level than IU and it may not translate, but the McCollum definitely wins wherever he has been. Dolson will need to surround him with a great bench and GM to help with the learning curve.
-
Who is arguing that it is? It has the potential to be one but it hasn’t been for 30 years. The right coach can have us flying again. Doesn’t have to be a big name. Just the right coach.
-
Today’s rumor is Ben Johnson to IU.
-
It was legal then too. The rule was actually illegal, it just hadn’t been challenged in court.
-
Sounds like a guy in contention for the IU job to me.
-
Not sure why people think Iowa is going to snag some good coaches. Their NIL is in shambles. Boosters weren’t donating what they pledged so 1 guy has had to foot the bill for like the last several months to ensure the players get what is contractually obligated to them. A top coach isn’t going to Iowa.
-
Except for where he is coaching. He is by far the best coach ever there. Done things no other coach has done at NW. NW isn’t lowering academic standards and isn’t playing in the grey either. He has been a huge success and elevated NW well above their previous best.

I’m a Michigan football fan, so I hear and read a lot of basketball crossover. Dusty has had a good year and they are happy. But they also have recognized that once he got figured out, he didn’t have a plan B. And they have struggled down the stretch.
-
Dusty isn’t ending the season well in a lower conference. So it’s not like he has set some insurmountable bar.
-
I agree with this as a generalization. I was the opposite. I wasn’t a fan of May last year, but liked what I saw from him this year. Except his team has faded badly to end the season. Be interesting to see how he adjusts moving forward.
-
Chris Collins is undervalued by many on this site. What he has done at NW has been remarkable. I’d take home 100 times out of 100 over Brownell. He wouldn’t be my first choice but I do think he could do very well at IU. If he is the floor of the search, then IU will be just fine.
-
Where is Birdman when you need him? IYKYK
-
I’d go for a mid major guy like McCollum over Brownell. If it’s a roll of the dice then go with the guy who could have some upside. Brownell will be fired in 4 years at IU, maybe less.
-
So he is saying it’s Beard without saying it’s Beard. Lol

It’s why you need both regular season and some post season success. But an elite coach will break through if they are consistently a top 1-4 seed in the tournament. That’s where the regular season success comes in and is so important.
