  1. He’s done this regularly.
  2. Multiple high major coaches just in the last week have said things to the effect of “high school recruiting is worthless now,” including pitino.
  3. This is pre-NIL mindset. High school and AAU coaches have about 1% the impact and influence today as they had 5 years ago. High school recruiting hardly matters anymore, and for the few guys ready to make an impact in year one, it’s all about the money now - not relationships.
  4. Hadn’t seen that. That’s very doable. TJ would be a home run and maybe the NIL situation being relatively bad drives him away.
  5. Fans significantly overestimate the magnitude of their teams’ pull on coaches, and IU is guiltier of it than any fan base. Hard to disagree with a word of this piece, other than I prefer Ben over Brad B https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/dan-wolken/2025/02/22/indiana-basketball-coach-purdue/79441554007/
  6. I’m 100% on board with Ben and that’s totally my pick if I’m the AD. But I have zero faith in the admin to take the “riskier” option.
  7. It’s not gonna be Brad. Dusty, via his extension, just turned it down. Drew turned down UK, so he’s not coming to IU. TJ’s buyout is likely insane. Fans (wrongly) ptobably can’t be sold on Ben M. Beard would be too big of a - ahem - black eye on the university. Sooooo …criticize all you want, but serious question, why *wouldnt* Brad B be a serious candidate? Who else exactly is there, realistically, outside of Brad B and Cronin?
  8. It would be a dark day for the university to hire Beard. The university is better than hiring a woman beater to be its highest paid employee. They won’t do it.
  9. Hooping is hooping. What’s different are all the things that surround programs at different levels and how that impacts your ability to attract and retain top talent. News flash: that doesn’t matter for IU anymore. IU has the NIL to get great players with even a remotely competent program manager. What IU needs is an Xs and Os guy. This guy is obviously that.
  10. Clearly not a ball knower.
  11. Guys he’s not signing that extension right now if he has any intention of leaving. He was the best realistic option. Onto Cronin.
  12. Given 1) Drew seems like such a uniquely perfect fit for Baylor 2) he does not at all seem like a fit for IU, and 3) he just turned down Kentucky, I just don’t see it happening. He’s a hell of a coach and he’d have success at IU, and I’m not saying the odds are 0 because idk what Baylor’s NIL situation looks like, but it just doesn’t make sense to me. Dusty snd Cronin both seem far more likely.
  13. It is quite literally 0%. He is a unique person in that he cannot be bought. Any decision will be made because he views it as better for him and his family for non financial reasons. The IU job would very much not be. If he could be bought, they’d have done it already, and he’d have left Butler for Oregon or Illinois or UCLA or the Phoenix Suns - all of which offered to triple his salary or more from Butler, and all of which he turned down.
  14. Just wanna say I think it’s unlikely Turgeon is a legit candidate, but also wanna point out that it’s hilarious everyone is quick to jump on someone and dismiss what they’re saying when it’s something they don’t want to believe, even though Turgeon rumor is way less outlandish than believing someone is gonna leave the Boston Celtics for a college job.
  15. I’m with you. It’s embarrassing and a bad joke that this many people believe any of this crap and that so many are willing to parse words of an obviously “not interested” statement to delude themselves into believing what their fragile egos want them to believe. No wonder we can’t have nice things as a program. Good bye and good luck.
  16. Now wait just a minute… I was attacked for comments like this. I thought obvious storytelling was encouraged.
  17. Brownell would be so disappointing. Very hopeful IU will have the stones to take a chance on a guy whose ceiling is a 25 year knight-esque run (McCollum). Cronin would get us in the dance every year. I wouldn’t hate it. But you’re not competing for titles with any regularity with that offense.
  18. No, I love IU basketball just like everyone else. I’d like to have a place to discuss it that isn’t fairy tale land. Gonna keep trying to pull this place forward.
  19. I just always thought the point of a message board was to get facts, not read fan fiction that aligns with what readers wish were true. If it’s the latter, my mistake, and no wonder Chris007 has so many fans. He’s the John Green of btownbanners, and I guess that’s what the board wants.
