Buzz is another super high floor option and personally I think his ceiling is better than Cronin too. I’d have been very happy to get him. But A&M has all kinds of money and he’s a Texas guy, so it probably wasn’t ever all that likely.

I truly don’t know because my info isn’t from IU side of things. I really want McCollum because the potential upside is a 25 year run with an Xs and Os savant. Sure, Cronin has a high floor, but I don’t see titles with his lack of offensive chops. I want multi-title upside.

I think it’s just that everyone wants insider info and for the first time in my life I have it but nobody wants to hear it because it isn’t good news and that drives me crazy. That’s really it. yeah, my point was that no one will believe any insight that isn’t what they wanna hear. I’ve been saying for weeks Stevens has been 100% out from the jump. He just doesn’t wanna leave the Celtics for IU. Period. Of course it makes total sense, because leading the Celtics organization is a better job than coaching at IU, but no one buys that someone may know it for a fact because cognitive dissonance has a stranglehold on this board.

Obviously northwestern isn’t the best job but I don’t understand the affinity for Collins. He’s been at northwestern 12 seasons and has exactly zero top 35 KenPom teams. He’s been worse than 65th 67% of the time. 4 top 65 teams! Tough job or not, it’s a power conference school and the majority of the time his teams have stunk, and none of them have been even merely good. How is that better than the upside afforded by someone like Ben M.

Don’t count out the guy who is 62 years old, has a top 10 ten team every year, has lived in the pacific northwest his entire life and in Spokane specifically for 35+ years, and who has passed on numerous NBA jobs and the Arizona job. Ok

I’m not going to reveal how I know on a public forum. That would be stupid. But what’s funny is no one requires or ask for proof of source when someone claims to have info that aligns with what they wish to be true.

Not when the coach literally doesn’t even try to recruit. In any event, the portal is the future, and with IU’s budget, they just need a mildly competent recruiter to crush the portal every year. Get a guy with great Xs and Os who’s just decently likable, and they’re set. Why McCollum is such a no brainer pick in my view.
