  1. Thanks for the update, Nony. I’m very curious to know if you feel like sharing whether it’s Matta that is not interested or is it IU that is not (or no longer) interested?
  2. Honestly had me crying laughing so hard with this. Thank you, Jeff Boy
  3. Hello all. Only been hanging around the site for a couple days (and I apologize if this has specifically been discussed) but I am curious as to what "we" are looking for in a coach ...... A) A "culture" guy ----- (ex: Stevens) B) A "proven winner" ------- (ex: Bennett) C) A "proven winner in the BIG" ------- (ex: Beilein, Matta) D) A "somewhat proven" winner with Bobby ties ------- (ex: Beard) E) An "advanced metrics" guy ------- (ex: Oats) F) An "X's and O's" guy ------- (ex: Moser) G) An "NBA-style" coach who would appeal to players aspiring to the pros ------- (ex: Woodson) H) An "IU guy" with experience and brand name -------- (Alford) I) An "IU guy" who isn't damaged goods (ex: Lewis or Fife) J) Someone who is NOT coming from a mid-major Not to say there isn't crossover in this list. Just curious. I find myself moving the target hour to hour these last few days. But I think if I could have anyone, my vote would actually be Moser. I listened to him on the radio this morning. Guy has serious personality. The Chicago people love him and Loyola absolutely crushed some dreams yesterday. He is a BIG TIME X's and O's guy. And to me THAT is Indiana basketball. I personally don't care where he'd be coming from.
  4. Hi all. Born and bred Hoosier. First time poster. Thank you to those for the best efforts at presenting "insider info" and to everyone else for the (mostly) civil discussion!! Not to pour salt, perpetuate false hope, or overanalyze but I am surprised no one has mentioned some of the other parts from Stevens' quote last night. Specifically, the part about going through "a tough season" and "it's not my job to not go through it" and later "I'm doing everything I can to find a better version of ourselves THIS year" (emphasis added). Notice he says nothing about NEXT year or building for the future. Couple things ...... firstly, as others have stated, if he's coming, it will be after the Celtics season. Secondly, he is explaining in black and white why he is "not considering" (ie "accepting") the IU job ------ his responsibility to his current employer and players ------ especially to Ainge who re-upped his faith in Stevens prior to this season with the contract extension. 0708 sources may very well be right that he received a raise. I doubt it (though doesn't mean sources are not right about other things). Just saying it would be strange for a hot seat coach (in Celtics fans' eyes) receiving YET ANOTHER raise 6 months removed from a contract extension in a down year. Big boys don't play that way. Also, and I don't know if this will make anyone feel any better, and perhaps this has been discussed on these pages at length many times --- Stevens does not want to coach college ball. It's too slimy. It has much less to do with IU, whether we are still relevant, whether it is a top job, etc. --- and much much more to do with this simple fact. Not saying he didn't or isn't considering it. Just that it's not his preference. It's the last line from the quote that gets me the most, however. "I'm just unfortunately skewed in a lot of ways ..... I guess." It's kind of heartbreaking to hear someone say that regardless of context. Speaks to some kind of inner turmoil. I was ready to be angry at Stevens for not wanting to come home. But bottom line he is not skewed for eating Dunkin Donuts (though many of us would disagree). Rather he is "skewed" for not taking a surefire career opportunity where he can count on job security for the next 25 years and legitimately bank 100+ miilion over that time because he is loyal to the person (and people) that believed in him enough to bring him to Boston. He knows Ainge is potentially on the hot seat as well and he's not going to leave a man behind. It's not his style. Yes, Stevens can always get another NBA head coaching job but is Ainge ever going to be GM again when his tenure is up? Likely not. So I'm not mad at Stevens. And my Hoosier pride is not hurt because he's not coming. If anything my Hoosier pride grows as those are the types of hard and RIGHT decisions that we value here. But maybe I am just skewed as well. Of course, if it does come out that he got a raise and matched IU I might feel different LOL ....... just highly doubt that was the case
