  1. I'm thinking the above ....... as we've speculated he is letting people know he will talk to whoever he darn well pleases!! And if he'll call up the active coach at a conference rival, I have even more faith that he'll be calling on Muss and Oats. Trust Dolson
  2. I agree with you all that for us gasping-for-air Indiana diehards Moser is not the impact hire we're looking for but tell me that Illinois game wasn't fun to watch??? I get it was only 1 game! Here's the true question, though: Are we going to run a "top recruit" destination program (and are we willing to really "do what it takes" to bring those guys in --- history says no) OR ........ Are we going to develop a program that can win with the 4 year over-achiever guys with the occasional superstar thrown in (like the Wisconsin teams that have been kicking the crap out of us for the last 20 years)??? I'd bet Dolson is struggling with that question more than just a little bit. His ultimate hire will obviously tell us which direction he has chosen for the program. I know my personal preference, but I am okay with either because both really can work.
  3. I agree Hoosierfan2017. Not my first choice (Oats Oats Oats!!) but def on brand. Doesn't exaclty jive with the NBA-style offense I'm thinking of but they play incredibly smart and execute with a style that doesn't require the top recruits nor does it require cheating ----- hence the "on-brandness" There is one guy that would be a true rabbit out of the hat that I didn't mention in my list earlier of guys whose teams are still playing ....... Mark ******* Few ------------ lifetime contract
  4. That's why we need Oats ......
  5. So, looking at the guys left in the tournament and adding Beard, Matta, and Beilein AND assuming it's not going to be any Indiana guys because that hire could've been announced by now ..... Oats (too expensive of a buyout) Muss (Arkansas will match any offer) Enfield ("dirty") Altman ("dirty") Scott ("dirty") Mike Lewis (probably not ready at this critical juncture) Beard (Texas) Matta (passed) Beilein (not long term) it only leaves one name ...... I still say Oats and Muss are in play and money will not be the deciding factor BUT assuming it is this is where we're at: Porter Moser will be the next coach at IU ...... and that settles any Marquette is a better job than Indiana argument. Moser obviously declined to talk to Marquette or they wouldn't have jumped on Shaka so fast. Why did he decline to talk to Marquette?? Because he already has a job waiting for him.
  6. Thanks Vauxhall. I did know about this but just didn't know that was the primary driver.
  7. What's he saying if you don't mind me asking?
  8. I hear ya Treesh but I'm going to choose to look at it a different way ...... with other "good jobs" becoming available and the very real possibility that big time cash is going to be thrown around in the way of buyouts and new contracts with schools like Marquette, Texas, and Oklahoma in the mix, it is going to force IU's hand to spend big to get the right guy (which many of us including myself think they're going to do anyway). Possibly even spending A LOT more than they had originally planned. In my mind that means EVERYONE really is in play ---- Oats, Muss, etc. This is the ultimate s*** or get off the pot moment for IU basketball and I love it!
  9. Thanks Vauxhall. So what is the hate? That he's a jerk? Dirty? Friends with Dakich? Is it the hair? I've got plenty of friends who feel the way you do. As mentioned, I'm indifferent. Don't mean to sound naive on this as I've only been hanging around the board for a few days. Just curious??
  10. Random question on what I expect to be a slow Indiana news day ........ I'm Alford indifferent. I don't think he's ever done anything to earn the job (though I don't think his UCLA run was terrible), but I wouldn't stop watching Indiana basketball if he got hired. But say he did get hired with the stipulation that he had to run an Oats or Muss style of play. Would the haters still hate? Certainly okay if "yes" just curious.
  11. One more random candidate thought ...... Anyone else think maybe the conversation with Matta went like this: Matta: Yes, I'm interested. Are you ready to make a decision? Dolson: Not just yet we've got some other interviews. Matta: I'll give you until the end of the day to decide if you're offering me. Otherwise .... I'm out! I still think maybe it could be him btw
  12. So I have my reservations about Moser and, yes, given his background Marquette may very well be a better fit. I do think he has figured something out about "program building" --- finding a style of play and recruiting guys that fit that style ------ VERY HIGH basketball IQ guys who can shoot, pass, and defend. He doesn't run what we think of as a modern NBA offense, but depending on the NBA team, there are similarities. Specifically the way they play through the big man as the "point-center" much like the Nuggets do with Jokic. They pass the ball exceptionally well, cut to the basket like we were all taught, and play exceptional defense. I listened to one of his former players now assistant coaches on the radio a couple days ago and the way that kid talked about their strategy and game preparation I would've thought he was the head coach. Bottom line, he's got a crew believing and pulling in the same direction. I don't think the style of play is what Dolson is looking for, but I do believe we could do much much worse in a hire. The most interesting thing to me is the dilemma Moser presents to us as Hoosier Nation. He is seemingly the antithesis of the Oats / Muss style of ball and DEFINITELY the antithesis of KU, Kansas, Duke, etc. The Moser playing style: does not require the top recruits is still aesthetically pleasing to watch can win against more athletic competition -- even comp picked by many to win the natty AND DOES NOT REQUIRE CHEATING TO BE SUCCESSFUL Can we have our cake and eat it to if it's already been decided that we want to win by landing the top dogs and providing a style of play that helps shuffle them along to the NBA? I have my doubts. I think I've made it pretty clear by my 1,000 posts the past couple days that I really want Oats. I would be happy with Muss because the dude wins and does seem to wear pants that fit. I'd be pretty damn happy with some of the other names still out there. Just want to make the point that Moser would be a good hire because it would represent that we want to win the way we used to win ---- with really smart players, playing fundamentally sound ball, hitting open shots, and mostly staying for 4 years. Kind of reminds me of the Brad Stevens model actually.
  13. We will get our man ........ or someone like him!!! IU to the moon!!! Hold the line Dolson!!!
  14. Dolson has gone out of his way to make sure people know he's not playing around and neither are the boosters. he made it a point to mention it only took 2 phone calls to raise the cash he basically said he's working with a blank check for the new coach he (possibly) leaked a $7M per year offer to Stevens And just like that we start hearing names like Beard, Drew, and Matta possibly interested. This isn't just about restoring Indiana basketball. This is about Indiana University athletics flexing muscle period. It's why he locked up Allen. We all have a lot of pride in our Hoosiers. Imagine how much Dolson has? Imagine how ticked off he was when the conference decided to change the rules at the last minute to keep IU out of the football conference championship? This is an opportunity for Dolson and Co. to pull one over on Alabama, Arkansas, the national media, you name it. He's the one sitting at the table with the fat stack of chips. Not a top job? Scott Dolson scoffs at the notion!!!
  15. There's really only one thing we need .........
  16. LOL .... I'm over him anyway!!! I WANT OATS!!!! ------- can someone please email SD again???
  17. Just saying, finishing 5 through 10 in your own conference is all NBA purgatory. Celtics are shaping up to be irrelevant for quite some time.
  18. I don't pretend to know a great deal about the NBA but with the Bulls landing Vucevic, strong case can be made Stevens now coaches at best the sixth most talented team in the East: 1. Nets 2. Bucks 3. 76ers 4. Heat 5. Bulls 6. CELTICS That CANNOT give him the warm and fuzzies.
  19. Sounds like Goodman paid a few visits to btownbanners yesterday LOL ...... and just because I haven't seen much of it TODAY I will say ....... I would be equally excited about Nate Oats than I would be for Brad Stevens: no sabbatical from the college game understands the transfer market gets guys to play big time D with a high scoring offense just a tad more fiery personality than Brad
  20. CC on Brad Stevens staff. Now THAT I could get behind
  21. I'm not advocating a CC hire, but I do believe he would run an NBA-style offense because Dolson has essentially made that a prerequisite for the job (going by his presser). And if Nonymouse's sources are correct and Matta said thanks but no thanks, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that's the reason why.
  22. So Cheaney checks a few boxes that have varying degrees of importance to us fans (the second of which we know is important to Dolson): IU guy NBA style offense personality My worry is that if winning in college was as easy as landing recruits because you run an NBA style offense and bring in a former player to coach wouldn't Georgetown and Memphis be having success alongside Michigan? If this is true it will end up really reminding me of the last search, where we zeroed in on Archie thinking he was the guy and didn't do enough due diligence. Except in this case, instead of zeroing in on a candidate, we would have zeroed in on a philosophy as if it's the same easy fix. I'm all for the NBA style offense. I am not against a CC hire. But my gosh you've got to at least talk to the Drews and Beards of the world (assuming -- BIG ASSUMPTION -- that they'd want to talk). I still hope and believe that Dolson gets all of this. I want to believe he is pulling all the right strings. But when you find yourself in a position to hold the strings, the worst thing you can do is think you already know all the answers. Tread with diligence SD.
  23. Friends this is not good if true and I'm not saying it is. But if Beard and Drew both have interest and Dolson is not at least entertaining them AND Matta withdrew his interest presumably AFTER talking with Dolson ......... yikes Nothing against CC. Maybe he'd be a great coach. I'm personally looking for a more proven commodity at this point though understand risk is there with any candidate. Of course, if it's just to eventually land Oats or Muss I'm all in
  24. Anyone getting the feeling that Brad is starting to think his job in Boston is starting to tread on thin ice?? Would also explain his awkward media sessions and pandering to the Masshole crowd. He becomes a little less of the golden boy once let go (for other NBA jobs).
  25. I remember getting kicked off the chairlift ride for dropping BBs on the heads of unsuspecting visitors ...... haven't laughed about that in a long time ...... thank you crappy Indiana men's basketball for the great memory (reminder).
