I had enough of Fife back when he (along with some others) threatened to leave if IU did not hire the coach of their choice after Knight was fired. I would have gladly helped him pack and get his self-entitled butt out of town.

Someone correct me if I'm off-base on this, but.... I know the athletic department has NO access to any tax dollars. This is state law for state supported universities in Indiana. So I would think this might preclude the department from having access to the IU general fund? Does the department not operate 100% based on athletic revenues including sales AND donations? If that is so, then what is McRobbie's problem with the department having say as to how they spend money the department raised? What am I missing here?

It seems that many on here want a coach whose team is still playing, but want to get it done before that coach's team is eliminated. You can't do that. Patience folks.

I'd rather have a guy who doesn't feel the need, and has the maturity to not do either. Give me someone who knows how to act like they've done it before and will again, without the "look at me" moments.

OK. Just did some reading up on it all. The first time Pierce got in trouble, it was the school rather than the coach who suspended him. That seems a bit odd to me, because I would think the coach would be the first to act, before it got to the school administration level. Then a couple years later he got in trouble again, and this time Alford did boot him from the team. Of course, given the previous situation, this raises the question as to whether Alford made the decision independently, or whether his hand was forced by the school. In any case, it is a deep stain.

Got a question for anyone who might know. After the initial furor over what happened at Iowa, did Alford ever issue any kind of an apology or explanation for his position on the whole thing? I never really followed the situation past the point of initial disgust at the time.
