  1. He was only ever HC for 6 seasons at Dayton which is a well-oiled machine from a basketball program perspective. He had 5 20+ win seasons, an EE, and three first weekend exits. He was associated with major openings because people assumed he'd be like his brother Sean. They are totally different people. The fact he was not a good personality fit should have been identified during interviews. Compare that to someone like Dan Hurley who had 17 years as a HC under his belt before going to UConn. When a struggling program, like UConn post Ollie or IU right now, is making the next coaching hire... they need to be sure of what they are getting. Archie did not have the personal attributes or coaching track record for him to have been considered a great hire in my book. It is easy to understand why the decision was made, but I wasn't very excited about it at the time and neither were others, so I'd hardly call it revisionist history to be fair.
  2. Archie was literally the flavor of the month. He had one deep run at a long time basketball school. Lots of better resumes at that time
  3. Would an actual Trustee really sign up for this message board with basically their real identity? Weren't we just wondering the other day about if they actually care/read/hear about what goes on in these forums lol. I appreciate tensions are running high but let's avoid personal attacks on any new poster, even if they're suspected of being part of our collective frustration
  4. Their username would be "Karen with a K" if it were! Just playing if you see this NGW :)
  5. Welcome to the board, nice post. On this point, do you think Dolson and QB see eye to eye and are working together? How do you interpret all the noise in the media being generated recently about Woody's contract and players potentially leaving. Just BAU?
  6. There is no way IMO there is any announcement about the new coach until their current team's season is over. Could be an announcement on Woody's future shortly after we lose in the BTT
  7. Trilly just called this a pretty good summary of the situation Edit: he also said he's told a "majority" of the teams production would portal if MW is retained
  8. Edey couldn't believe that no call with 4 guys around him. Lol
  9. This thread was created on Feb 3 I believe. The speculation is ongoing... one person suggested that it was BP signaling he'd be open to leaving. I tend to think he wouldn't need to signal publicly to start a back channel conversation, which would lend credence to the idea that BP put that article out with the intention of leveraging AU for what he wants. The fact Trilly says that IU would make the move on Woody with the intention of hiring Pearl, suggests to me that Trilly is saying Pearl's interest in IU is genuine. But to be clear, TD has not directly stated that and it's just my own interpretation. Doesn't exactly address the elephant in the room though
  10. The Trilly discord, ironically, had some misinformation in it alleging that Trilly had input on Norlander's prediction Woody would be retained. He clarified he did not provide any info on that. He also said he would like to point out that it "wasn't an accident" that one of Norlander's recent articles is a feature on Pearl and his potential landing spots this cycle.
  11. Right. And the big payday should help him get over it. I mean... if my friend were actively trying to stop me from getting millions in a lump sum payment and keep on working at age 66, that'd be no friend of mine!
  12. Trilly "can't say with certainty" that anyone would stay if CMW is here next year. They can't bring him back... can they?
  13. This is an interesting point and something I hadn't really considered. Not sure how much BP is tuned into the situation but I'd imagine the back channel conversations have obviously made him aware that political factors are at play and we may need to get a little messy with the media to make it happen. The fact Bruce hasn't said publicly "it's not happening" yet is interesting. Has to make you wonder if part of why BP would be on board is now he can see IU has an athletic director who isn't trying to shoot themself in the foot and they could work together. If they do pull this off, my excitement will be off the charts. I'd also be excited for Dusty. At this rate, making a change is the only way 99% of the people will feel any excitement for IUBB... not just next year, but for a very long time.
  14. Time for Quinn and Mike to get over themselves.
  15. Honestly, a university BOT chair veto-ing a motion for a new basketball coach would have to raise some ethical red flags, no? Doubt that is a common occurrence. Even more unlikely that BOT chair happens to be close personal friends with the coach....
  16. We are about to find out how effective Scott is as a political operative. IMO, as a rookie AD, QB and co were able strong arm Dolson into the hire they wanted. He's probably learned a lot in the 3 years since then, as evidenced by his savvy move on Allen and seemingly strong hire in Cignetti. I am hoping that Dolson feels burnt about being bullied into/convinced of a hire he presumably never wanted to make and has spent ample time since then thinking about how he will make his move when the time is right. Obviously it's not all up to him but I still have hope knowing we've got someone in our corner fighting for us. Trilly has even joked that we have an awful lot of characters to keep track of at IU and how we have so many cooks in the kitchen. He's going to need a mod for the IU section soon lol
  17. Someone needs to save these guys from themselves. Lol goodness gracious
  18. And given Buckner's connections to big money donors/Corp executives/pro basketball, that retaliation could extend into your personal life if you really cross him. I think that's the implicit danger people fear.
  19. From the little bit I've gathered about Dolson, he seems well experienced at the shaking hands and kissing babies/fundraising side of things. If it's a dog fight between Scott and Quinn, I have no choice but to hope like hell that Scott can bite back. Quinn's got a lot of bark but being out after next year how much bite can he be packing? Dolson will need to finesse this masterfully
  20. Maybe all the Bruce Pearl talk was a QB psy-op to distract us from the obvious candidate in May long enough for him to go elsewhere and lock up a 4th year of Woody when this should be a very straightforward change to make. Mainly joking of course lol
