  1. Actually think DeVries has a pretty similar offensive philosophy to McDermott; we'll get to see something like it before long!
  2. So glad we get to attend to high school recruiting again...
  3. I do think people are underrating what it means that Dolson hired Cignetti. Cignetti being the coach this season made them $29 million over and above what they made the previous year. The basketball job used to be the only bellwether for the AD; opening football up as a revenue source changes the game. I really doubt he's going anywhere until he wants to leave.
  4. This is also true, which is awful for a team so attracted to 2-big lineups, and which had Oumar Ballo...
  5. I'll concede that point; the 5 is around the basket, and is the lone opportunity at second chance points. The other guys vacate immediately, but you're right.
  6. Well, I'm not sure about the Oreb part of that... one of the markers of his system is that he sends no one to the offensive glass.
  7. Yeah... I know that she's not popular, but IU has shown that the President is able to undermine the basketball program (Brand & Herbert). She has not shown herself to be anything like that. I won't be raising any voice against her.
  8. An underrated aspect to this? There literally are not very many pastures greener than IU for men's basketball. We have to remember that we're literally at the top of the food chain in terms of relevant support.
  9. *Brad coming to this board to mean mug all the IU fans with the temerity to think he would condescend to coach college basketball again*
  10. I'm old enough to remember when Collin Hartman was telling anyone who would listen that Archie Miller was going to win a National Championship at Indiana. Think that says a lot about the different variables that go into coach success, and how unpredictable it is. I don't think we'll begin to have an idea of how this hire has gone until about a year from now.
  11. The last one he loved this much was the Archie hire; has me a little nervous...
  12. That's almost 2/3 of a season, but get him a good lawyer and give it a shot, I guess...
  13. I actually forgot, in all the excitement. DeVries definitely better than Turgeon.
  14. Would really prefer we not target other states like this; it's not like much of Indiana is some metropolitan haven, and there's nothing wrong with that. We just took their coach, so I think it's fine to leave it at that.
  15. Not to be a party pooper. Woodson's offense scored 112.4 pp/100 this year. The offense drives people crazy. Everyone's expecting things to get much better. I hope they do. DeVries has coached 7 seasons. 6 at a much lower level of competition. Only one of his offenses has been better than this year's IU offense. Not trying to be negative. There's a LOT of growth necessary.
  16. This is also true. He played Miami much better than IU did with two NBA draft picks, including one of the greatest players in program history.
  17. Separated by literally one spot on the committee's seed line. Think we can be excited, and there are extenuating circumstances, but this is a funny point. This West Virginia team is literally the best team DeVries has ever had by the advanced stats. We'll be counting on him growing a lot from what he's done so far. Think DeVries is dedicated to growing, and so excited to see him try.
  18. So this would be an interesting thing; I'm open to this. Think the resources would make a lot of coaches successful, and IU will give many more resources than WV. A couple questions: Is it concerning that his teams don't hit the offensive glass and don't get to the line? That's been true even at Drake. This year, it led to them not being a very efficient offense at all. Is this year a defensive outlier? He's never had a defense nearly as good as this year's. What is the offensive ceiling? It seems like teams need to be at 120 points per 100 possessions, and his best team at Drake only got to 115. His offensive efficiency numbers look a little too much like Archie's for my comfort.
  19. If Butler hires Stevens, that might be it for me...
  20. This is also true. This year's WVU team - according to the advanced stats - is the best one he's ever had.
  21. This is actually close to my POV. IU's standards have fallen; my biggest hope is that DeVries seems like the kind of guy who is not willing to settle for those middling standards. He does seem like the best floor coach since Sampson. But he'll have to prove it, and we are having to talk ourselves into him.
  22. Everyone keeps talking about Mark Pope like he didn't just tie for UK's second worst SEC record since Billy Gillespie. He did fine. But I'm rooting for this to go better than Pope's first year went.
  23. It seems to me like when West Virginia hired Beilein years ago. Not an immediately apparent winner. But was able to turn into that. About the same age as when WVU hired Beilein; IU has top-level resources. But I think we'll have to get cooked for a bit, PR-wise...

Guesses if this is the category, and if the hire could be made known with the tourney going on: Wright Donovan

It is a little uncomfortable that Miller came to IU with a comparable resume to Devries and more tournament success...
