I could see Gregg leaving. Creighton has a lot of fan support but they’ve lost players because of NIL before. Ashworth and kalkbrenner both graduate this year so a rebuild here with our resources is probably easier than at Creighton. Maybe he looked over at St. John’s yesterday and saw how they could just buy a great team and doesn’t want to compete against that without the same NIL money. Plus we can give him a nice raise. It is funny though that we start talking about him as a candidate and then he goes and loses 2 straight. Still would love to have to him though

Give me a coach that has shown they can coach championship level offense and defense and I’ll be happy. That to me is a top 30 defense and offense. That has you in the mix every year and the tourney run will come if you can consistently do that. Crean could coach offense but his defenses weren’t great. Archie didn’t do either and Mike is pretty mediocre at both.

Seen someone knocking his post season success but he’s made a sweet 16 and final 4 three out of the last 4 years. Anything can happen in a single elimination tourney but those are pretty good results to me

I think Cronin is a fine coach and would probably have us competing in the top 5 of the conference every year. But i don’t think most people would be happy making him a top 5 or whatever coach to get him to leave ucla

I will be a very happy man if we end up with may after all of this

After 8 years of terrible basketball i don’t know if we’re in a position to turn our nose up at some of these coaches that would have us in a very good position

I consider a championship team top 30 in offense and defense efficiency rating because that is what you need to win a title. In 23-24 they were third overall in kenpom with top 20 both. That’s championship level. In 22-23 they were number 11 in kenpom with 12 and 16 efficiency ratings respectively. Championship level to me

Idk getting this job isn’t a guarantee. Michigan and Louisville both wanted him last year and are still two of the best jobs in the country. I’d rather have that guarantee also if i were him. Dolson could’ve easily fired Woodson last year to him. I don’t blame dusty one bit for taking a promotion

Depends on what you consider championship level. I’d say his final 4 team was the worst in the 3 year stretch from 20-23. His team this year is also top 25 by every metric. So that’s 4 in 6 years of teams id be happy with

TBH i think if may was going to leave Michigan for us it doesn’t matter if it’s one year or ten years. If he wants to coach his Alma mater and bring them back to greatness the timeline doesn’t really matter

I think i could come up with at least 20 coaches we could hire that I would be very happy with and confident they’d get us going in the right direction. Tons of good coaches out there

I did some more digging into McCollum and decided to look at his D2 teams 3 point attempts. In his last 3 title winning teams they averaged at least 25 3s a game and shot around 40% behind the arc. That was honestly my biggest concern with him but if we are guaranteed that volume of attempts from 3 even with the slow pace I would be perfectly happy with him.

I mean 3 out of the last 4 years making the tourney. I understand but McCollum is not the slam dunk people are making him out to be. Ive seen him get called the best x and o coach in the country on here and we’ll regret it forever if we don’t get him. I guess how you see him depends on how you view D2 numbers but I’d rather look at kenpom numbers and things like that. Doing that would’ve saved us from archie

I’m confused. Drake had a higher kenpom last year than this year. Their advanced stats are fine

Can any McCollum fan tell me if his D2 teams ever took 25ish 3s a game? I know someone will say it doesn’t matter he just wins but i think that does matter at higher levels. I’ll be hoping he changes his coaching style if not and I’m kind of tired of that
