Admittedly Drew has to be more appealing than Kevin Stallings as a coach. But the school is not a destination school for 5 star basketball players. I have no doubt Vanderbilt was a non factor with Stallings. It should still be with Drew. I'm sorry how does he move the needle that much. To me going to Vanderbilt makes zero sense if you are one and done. 3 five star guys who are all freshman can't carry you to a national championship. I don't know much about the rest of their class but it seems unlikely. The whole thing seems fishy to me. But fact Romeo has continuously gone out of his way both to bring up Vanderbilt and to bring them into his recruitment seems like he favors them over IU. I don't believe for a moment he goes to IU. The moment he decided to wait until spring is to avoid dealing with fan back lash. Every interview he goes out of his way to bring up Vandy. His response about IU is always the same canned response. I grew up in New Albany I can tell you IU means nothing to these kids. I hate it but it's a fact. Best for everyone to let this one go. While I'm not as hopeful of us getting Romeo I believe we still have a chance. Something we never had a year ago. Archie has done a great job in 8 months. We just have to keep making gradual steps. I graduated New Albany High school back in 2002 and it was much the case then. I grew up in New Albany and live here. Indiana fans are different here. We are mostly a Louisville market and out local news is Louisville based. There are a disgusting number of U of L and Cat fans. A lot of IU fans are more fair weather and the most tend to be the older ones who can remember when IU is revelant. This makes a big difference to younger kids and when most of local news coverage is UK and UL it's not shocking a lot of kids root for them. Heck go to a local store here you will find far more UK and UL stuff. I don't know if it's because IU markets itself poorly or store don't want it but that's the reality. Let's assume IU is clean. There is enough guilt by association negative recruiting that can come for this. Number one Archies brother. Two our past with Kenny Johnson. I just hate being in this situation. I know it has to have some effect on a kids decision. I also hate it because Crean did this so often. But I understand Archie is in this situation because of what he inherited from Crean. If we lose someone I hope it's not any of the people he has recruited so far. I would say that but also Cal goes for the top 10 ranked guys. Not that he doesn't get top 20 guys either. But on a team like his loaded with talent it's the difference between being a starter or coming off the bench. At IU and Michigan State he would be a starter.
