Yeah, saw that. Agreed. Can never have enough front five. Hopefully our beloved Hoosiers kick butt this season and attract even more down hogs! -
(2022) OT Carter Smith to Indiana

It's nice to see the last couple of years IUFB landing 86+ rating OLs. To piggyback off of you here, I would like to see JUCO commits as well. Transfers are a plus too! The front five is vital to success in my opinion. I recall CTA mentioning in the past that he'd like to focus on OL recruiting. Can't remember when he said that but I was in total agreement with him. -
He's basically saying the road games are losses. I'll take the over please and thank you.

Supreme Court Favor Athletes in Narrow Ruling on NCAA Rules
Lebowski replied to HoosierHoopster's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's cool kind sir. I guess I'm an old school fan and cheer for the organizations as a whole. Living in multiple cities during my lifetime I can tell you with certainty that I didn't/don't experience what you are. I've encountered more water cooler conversations on the team compared to a player's stats. The occasional no hitter, 5 TDs passing and triple double gets brought up, obviously. But more times than not it's conversation about where the team is going or how they played or what I experienced at the game, etc. etc. -
I kind of agree with Davison in that article. The locker room is sanctuary. It's too bad the whole team meeting was recorded and even worse someone released it to the press.

Supreme Court Favor Athletes in Narrow Ruling on NCAA Rules

Couldn't that be said for all sports at all levels? I mean I still wear my Pacers t-shirt that I bought back during the Reggie Miller days from time to time. -

Thought this piece was interesting. https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa-can-only-blame-itself-for-supreme-court-blow-180112658.html -
Totally agree life is just different down there. Keep in mind though Kentucky and Ole Miss have banners. Gamecocks are above .500 all-time record. And Miss St. have been bowling 24 times with 14 wins. The reason I mentioned Vandy as an example is I think the best comparison IUFB can go by in the SEC is them. SEC football is stacked from top to bottom. I mean Missouri even has a pretty good football history. With the exception of a handful of years IUFB has been the doormat for all things football. But it appears to be changing. And I'm on that train enjoying the ride baby!

I 100% aree with you! I love watching the game. No matter how bad my beloved Hoosiers have been on the field. I did the same, went to a Vols game back in 1999 against Vandy. Travis Henry got injured before halftime that game but he was still a monster while on the field. Packed house, they were good but already had 2 losses in the conference and the locals were calling the season a disappointment, but somewhat hopeful to squeak into the BCS. Makes sense because the previous year they won the whole dang thing. Tennessee has something IUFB is striving for; 6 banners hanging at Neyland. Recently I've been thinking Vols football is a lot like IUBB. Great tradition that isn't producing what the fans expect. This is a complete guess but I would imagine if you went to a Vanderbilt game you would not see the stadium packed to the gills.

Lot's of OVs this month. Let's hope CTA and staff impresses and lands some more today! https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Season/2022-Football/Visits/ -
@NashvilleHoosier @IUc2016 Love the back and forth y'all. Just wanted to chime in. Hope you don't mind. If so, just let me know and I'll go grab some oat sodas. In regards to semifinal blowouts in the current CFP these schools are typically conference champs of a P5. When you think about the SEC a large percentage of those games are close. And a lot of those schools would do fairly well in a playoff environment should they get a chance. Even the 4 loss schools. I think it would be safe to say expanding the CFP we'd more than likely be able to see some really competitive games. And on the other hand we'd see some blow outs as well. It just depends on the rankings. I mean no team was going to play Bama close last year. That team was special. However take 2016 for example, Clemson won the championship 35-31 over Bama. They beat OSU, who didn't even win their conference, 31-0 and Bama beat Wash, who lost to USC during the regular season, 24-7 in the semifinals. During the season Clemson played fairly close games against Auburn, Louisville, FSU, NC State and VaTech. Bama's 'competitve' games were against Ole Miss and LSU that season. Washington won the PAC12 but lost to USC who got blown out by Bama at the beginning of the season but ended up beating the Big Ten's conference champ in a bowl game. The top 12 schools in the last CFP Rankings prior to the playoff 5 conference champions and three schools with 3 losses, USC being one of them, were part of it. Of those schools FSU is the only school mentioned above that played a competitive game to the eventual champion. If we expand it out to 16 teams 13-0 Western Michigan finally would get a crack at playing for all the marbles and Auburn and Louisville might get another crack at Clemson. If we expand even further to 24 teams, LSU might get another crack at Bama. Here's my point, we're talking football here. Teams matchup differently. Seasons are long. Injuries happen. Conferences are brutal, I'm thinking SEC here. Teams improve during the season. I could easily see a 3 loss school, cough cough SEC, make some noise in an expanded CFP. The likelihood of that happening is minimal. But not out of scope.
-
It's coming folks. We're going to get an expansion. Now it's just a matter of when and how many. My dream formula is the following. 16 Team Playoff Conference champs get automatic bids. That means 10 schools are in. Remaining slots are at-large bids. That article I posted mentioned 24 teams and if we ever see that in our lifetime I think I would have died and gone to heaven. Because we're talking about a playoff system that would pretty much include the schools that finished 3rd or 4th in a conference and just start peeking at the right time.

Oh man, I would be ecstatic if CFP went to 24 teams!!! https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/momentum-rapidly-growing-for-college-football-playoff-expansion-to-eight-or-more-teams/

I'm not expecting a step backwards per se. I'm just setting my expectations a little different than others. Like I wouldn't be surprised if our beloved Hoosiers start the season 2-3 or 1-4 or finish the season 6-6. But then again I also wouldn't be surprised if they start 5-0 or 4-1 or finish the season with 8 to 10 wins. I would be completely surprised if they have a losing season and don't go bowling. That last sentence is probably the feeling for most if not all of us IUFB faithful. And actually typing out that sentence fully explains the progress the program is going with CTA running this thing. It's awesome to be talking this way about IUFB. LEO

If we're being honest with ourselves there was absolutely nothing normal about the entire season last year. Yet another reminder to myself. I guess I'm just being cautiously optimistic. The culture is there and last year's wins help move this train forward and I'm ecstatic to be riding on it. LEO

While I enjoy seeing the respect IUFB is getting (ESPN's Way-Too-Early Rankings have them at 10) with these preseason rankings I have to remind myself that Ole Miss beat them in the bowl game and PSU was a preseason top 10 last year. Hopefully they continue from last year's success and don't lay an egg like PSU did last year.

Thanks for sharing. There's an uptick in DEs entering the portal. https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Season/2021-Football/TransferPortal/ So are some of these transfers also playing DT or OLB as well? I'm not sure I fully understand the position because Alfred Bryant is listed as an OLB but last year he played DE. And C.J. Person is listed as a DT but I recall seeing him playing DE. I suppose they're just defensive line positions in general? While I truly hate to see these cats enter their names in the portal I do like the amount of depth IUFB has at those positions. CTA doing his thang. Defense.
