Indiana vs OSU Game Thread - 8/31 @ 8:00ET on ESPN
Lebowski replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
The front five have to get better. Otherwise it's going to be a long season. Without a running game typically means you lose by three or four touchdowns against teams like OSU. (More like four or five touchdowns if I'm being honest. IU's D played fantastic for 2.75 quarters! The big plays were essentially the gut punch that sucked the air out of them.) Ramsey in the game seemed to balance the offense and force OSU's D to play against the run. I wasn't sure why they didn't bring him in more, especially in the 2nd half. Bringing him in the first half created some match up issues or at least that what it looked like to me. I could be wrong though. In the second half OSU's D just pinned their ears back and said, 'I dare you to run the football because here's our pass defense and we're set up and ready to defend your passing game.' Lagow played his heart out but this team won't win games without a running game, and Ramsey in the game helped the running game last night. He's no starter but a nice complement to the offense that needs to add a wrinkle to defenses like OSU. Westbrook on special teams, fail. Last year he averaged 4.5 catches a game. IUFB heads to Charlottesville, VA next week! Give 'em hell! -

Kind of a surprise to see Crider and Jones there. Rumor has it, Crider is actually battling for the starting gig. -
Who gets the ball in late shot clock situations
Lebowski replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Whoever they match-up against. I can see multiple guys being called for that shot and it truly depends on the competition. Even a guy like Hartman could be a nice option. They have depth which is a really good thing to have. -
Kevin Wilson calling their offense? ;-)

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Lebowski replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well, first and foremost, his team didn't win the state championship last year. That's probably a good indicator of this writer's understanding of the state. You can bet the house Coach Miller knows what happen last year. Not to mention how important it means to his team to win a state championship. It's not an easy task to accomplish in the state of Indiana. As all of us Hoosiers already know this. Second, big deal IU hasn't recruited a 'top recruit', whatever that means, since 2013. Coach Miller wasn't coaching IU. I find it absurd to even talk about that stuff. If the writer's going to talk about that stuff then he probably should have also brought up a minor detail that the current head coach at IU managed to coach a team of 'lesser recruits', again, whatever that means, in an Elite Eight during that time frame. Finally, this article just seemed to be more about Crean's inability to win the big games. IU basketball will always have 'a position of strength', whatever that means, regardless the coach. And anybody that doesn't believe that or even understand it doesn't know IU basketball's culture. Coaches coach and players play. And I'm almost 100% certain both Coach Miller and Romeo Langford knows this. Best of luck to all parties involved. If it does happen I hope it's a match that produces big wins on the hardwood. -
Indeed. He was/is. Dobbs rushed for 831 yards and almost threw 3k yards last year! I could be completely wrong but from what I understand Coach Allen wants an offense run by a dual-threat QB. And Coach DeBord is a perfect hire for what he wants. Also, Ramsey and Tronti fit this philosophy much more than Lagow. It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds.
-
It's hard to say. Coach DeBord will more than likely call a different offense philosophically. Dan Feeney (NFL LAC) was last year's leader, and rightfully so. Dimitric Camiel (NFL Houston) is gone. Jacob Bailey is gone. That's a big chunk of experience and leadership missing for this year. What is promising is what RBB89 mentioned. They have Knight (Jr.) and Cronk (So.) with experience at the tackle spots. Which will help a lot. The remaining projected starters are Simon Stepaniak (RS-So.) at the RG spot with 12 games played under his belt, Wes Martin (RS-Jr.) LG 13 starts under his belt, and Hunter Littlejohn (RS-So.) at C with only 1 game played last year. They'll be young. If you look at how DeBord called the Tennessee offense last year and what Coach Allen wants they'll probably be a little more run heavy this year.
-
It doesn't matter who's in the backfield without a line pass and run blocking. Last year the backs had to deal with front five injuries that were a huge blow to the offense. (Feeney missing 4 games due to concussion was devastating.) Some of Lagow's throws were indeed his fault and down right awful but the reason he was throwing in the first place was due to not having an efficient running game. It was night and day once Feeney was cleared to play again. A running game is crucial for a guy like Lagow. Just my opinion.

(2018) SF Aaron Henry to Michigan State
Lebowski replied to goonaha's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
From what I understand Nunge was set on going to Iowa. That's where he's from and apparently he was neighbors with McCaffery for a week. I was at that game and both Henry and Nunge held their own. Castle couldn't stop the 3 ball and Henry created a lot of those open shots for his teammates. I would like to see Henry commit to IU. Maybe we'll get to see both Nunge and Henry match up again in Big Ten play. -
Article: Indiana Hoosiers Basketball Is A Sleeping Giant, Waiting To Be Awoken

The pressure of the job from top to bottom has got to be incredible. I hope this next chapter is a culture change that embraces the pressure, grabs it by the neck, chokes it out of breath and forces it to tap out. This program needs that attitude, from top to bottom. -
Decommit today.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Lebowski replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I suppose they have some role in it as well. The NCAA isn't allowing any compensation to the student-athletes, which has a lot to do with the student-athlete's decision to pursue opportunity. That's all I meant by my comment. Again, I don't blame anybody declaring for a professional sport draft. Money is money. You can earn a degree anytime in your life. -

Yeah, I'm fine with these guys "leaving early" to earn a paycheck at a skill that typically has a very short shelf life. The NCAA has a lot to blame for the trend. If you don't like it, contact the NCAA and let them know. Just my opinion. Best of luck to all IU players in the NBA draft! Come back during the off season and get your degree. -

Indeed. Looking forward to doing the exact same thing. Who's EJ though? Do you mean EG? -
I'm glad to see him go and glad FG made the call. The guy had 6 years and he went 26–47. The last coach that was there longer then 6 seasons was Mallory. If he has any say with OSU's offense they will lose at least one game because of his stubbornness. Just my opinion.

IUFB Spring Game - April 13th @ 7 pm ET
Lebowski replied to lucel15's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Ramsey looked good. His team had the better running game, which might have played a factor. Lagow had receivers drop a lot of his passes. He had some placement problems on a few of his passes but he also had some really good placement for only the receiver to catch it. And a lot of them were dropped. I hope Simmie stays healthy. He'll be a big part of any success on the offensive side of the ball. Did anybody see Natee? I didn't see him out there. Is he injured? For a Spring game, they looked good. A lot to work out. I hope that's the case for Mike McGinnis. He missed some tackles and looked like he had some pursuit angle problems. I could be wrong though. Also, the running game. They need to work out that as well. Ramsey might be a good addition to have him in for dual threat opportunities. But overall I was impressed from top to bottom. -
