The Dude abides. Yeah, I have a feeling this coming season is a make or break for CTA. If he doesn't get his team to a bowl I think he'll be on the hot seat. No pressure, right? LOL!

I agree. And Harrell is someone that might be able to open up a recruiting pipeline to the state of Texas and Oklahoma. I think this hire is going to be multi-factor hire, meaning not only an OC but also a potential of opening up a recruiting pipeline. I'm not opposed to Canada at all. I do think however that will limit the potential to open up a recruiting pipeline IU hasn't really been able to crack. Exciting times for IU football. Hope this hire turns out to be a good one.

LOL! Slim to none but a sorry sap like myself can dream, man! I will say that DeBord was earning a half mil. The QB coaches at Bama or Clemson are actually a possibility. Albeit a long shot but certainly not out of the question. Also, Glass has told the IndyStar that he "prioritizes continued investment in football, and support for Allen wherever necessary." And he's going to pony up some cash for both David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea. So, I think it's not too much of a stretch to grab a guy like Brandon Streeter (He's currently earning $455k.) who is not only a QB coach with an OC background but also has recruiting coordinator under his belt. If you recall he landed Indiana's Hunter Johnson. So he's already pretty familiar with the state of Indiana's high school layout.

OK, if Sam Story is correct about CTA looking outside to fill the OC job what candidates would be on your list? I noticed someone throw out Cam Cameron. I'd like to hear about others. The Daily Hoosier threw out some interesting names. Personally, I'd like to see a guy from Clemson or Bama come in.
  5. Honestly, I'm not that surprised. He's a Hoosier, an ex-IHSAA football player and an ex-HC at one of the most prominent high school football program in the state. And of the IHSAA high school football coaches I've spoken to, they say they really like what they are seeing in Btown and enjoy his open door policy. Bottom line, he's a character guy that relates. And if, if, he succeeds at IU it's quite possible he doesn't ever leave IU.
  6. Thanks for sharing. Hope it works out for him and he's able to produce on the field.
  7. Hope it works out for Tuttle. Here's an article covering his sudden mid-season departure from Utah. https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-utes/2018/10/18/why-is-celebrated-qb-jack/
  8. The question I have is why did he leave the Utah team in mid-season?

    IU vs Uof6 Game Thread

Is it me or does Robert Phinisee always seem to be in the right place at the right time during big time situations? The last two or three games I have noticed #10 making some really important plays during key moments in the game. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
  10. I don't have a dog in this fight but it should be noted that since DeBord has been the OC the deep passing game dramatically dropped. And here's a good breakdown of the 2017 year Ramsey had when he was splitting time with a guy that had "better arm strength" down field (whatever that means). http://puntjohnpunt.com/2018/08/30/7584/ The article points out what exactly it means to have "arm strength" regarding the deep ball. Having touch and accuracy is vital to the deep ball and I think we all can agree that Ramsey has both of that. Otherwise his short passing game would be awful. I think what Ramsey lacked last year was velocity. This year I saw an improvement with all categories regarding the deep ball tangibles. Especially with velocity in the intermediate passing game. (Y'all remember that 15 yard zing to Whop that went 65 yards to the house against MSU?) And I wouldn't be surprised one bit if his intermediate passing game this year improved compared to last year. A good example was his very first TD pass this year was an 18 yard intermediate pass that was placed perfectly to Donavan Hale (Something he didn't accomplish in the 2017 season).
  11. And all those stats were accomplished as a sophomore. There's a lot of potential upside here for Ramsey to a good play caller, manager/coach and overall leader on the football field. And if Penix manages to surpass Ramsey than I only see that as a win-win for us IU football faithful! My biggest worry is Penix wanting to transfer elsewhere.
  12. I hear ya. And I'm saying there have been a lot of really good high school football players come out of the area in between 1997 and now that went on to be solid D1 players. Like, a lot of kids, man.
  13. That's a stretch. You must have forgotten about that TE for the Denver Broncos out of Memorial. Speaking of Vanderbilt, they currently have an OT/TE out of the SIAC. While we're riding that Vandy train there was a QB out of Heritage Hills that ended up playing QB on Sundays too! Look, Lindauer is good but come on man.

Indiana vs Penn State Post Game Thread

This was a very complicated game, man. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.

    So some concerns I’m having...

Yeah, I remember back in the day when I tried to play the game our coach would set some time aside to practice them and he would make a game of it. If you missed the shot the entire team would run gassers. He would also create scenarios to where make the shot(s) you win the game. It got to the point where if the coach wanted to make sure we ran gassers he would put me on the charity strip. :-D

    So some concerns I’m having...

That's a bummer, man. Maybe that'll change. Here's to hope! Well, at least one of us can drain from the charity stripe. I couldn't hit the ocean if I were on the beach.

    So some concerns I’m having...

I think I understand what you're saying here. I do see a much better defense under CAM. If I'm being completely honest I see a much better fundamentally rounded team under CAM. And last year they progressed as the season went on. Maybe his identity is a defensively minded team? Who knows. I will say he's got to fix those darn free throws though!

    So some concerns I’m having...

They got outplayed and completely bullied on the floor. Since that Arkansas game that toughness has been missing. Honestly though, I'm not too worried about it. Confidence is contagious and once that starts to spread in the locker room again that swagger will come back. If it doesn't then this is going to be a very long season. And I would be completely surprised and utterly shocked if Zion is not the overall #1 pick in this year's NBA draft.

    Injury Updates

Can someone on here provide the current injury report?
  20. Not sure. They ran an RPO. So depending on what the defense was giving them pretty much dictated what Ramsey did. When Scott was in I would imagine the defense tried to contain the 5 yards a carry he averaged and therefore forced Ramsey's/DeBord's hand. With the exception of the MSU game IU was able to run the ball somewhat effectively (Not world beaters but average), considering. Stevie Scott was really one of the major bright spots on the offense this season. He and Whop really impressed me this season. And Scott's only a freshman. I hope he's able to improve during the off season. I was also impressed with the improvement from Ramsey as well. Peyton was a sophomore and hopefully next year he's able to take that step to the next level.
  21. I'm not sure I fully understand what you are saying. The top rushing back on the team was a true freshman and is currently ranked 21st in the nation in rushing and averaged something like 5 yards a carry. All other backs were limited in carries. I wouldn't call the line super weak. I would agree that the line wasn't what it was when it had two NFL draft picks on the front five during the time both Coleman and Howard were the exclusive backs. Personally I think the current OL is an average FBS OL. In my opinion, I wouldn't count on IU getting a line like they had during the Coleman and Howard days on a consistent basis. No matter who's the coach. It'll be nice to have that kind of luxury but IU Football just doesn't get that historically speaking. It is what it is. If I had to guess the reason for not having more rushing yards this year I would point to the passing stats. IU was more of a passing team this year. They were like 3rd in the conference in passing.
  22. I hear ya. I'm not sure I would call it underachieved. We're talking IU football here.
  23. Wilson wasn't the right guy for the state of Indiana. I wish him the best of luck on his endeavors. I wholeheartedly agree next year is a very big year for CTA.
  24. Man, a lot of folks are calling for CTA's head on here I don't see it that way at all. Compared to Wilson, Coach Allen has won two more conference games and five more games at the finish of their 2nd year. And of those first 2 years under Allen the Hoosiers were one game away from bowl eligibility. It took Wilson 5 years to go bowling or even have a chance to go bowling. IU has a grand total of losing 3 starters on the offense and 4 on the defense. That's, wait for it, 7 total starters! This team is extremely young. Like way young! Not to mention the 2019 commits is one of the best the school's had in awhile. IU football is in a division that is and will always be an up hill battle for this program. When you see a school like Northwestern winning the west division the way they did you quickly realize just how incredibly difficult it is for schools like IU, Maryland and Rutgers. If he thinks he needs to relieve his duties as DC to do other things for the team then I'm fine with that. I really think this program is going in the right direction. For example, this year they were able to get a couple of in state recruits that would typically go to some other program commit to IU. The program has an open door policy for the high school coaches in state. And from what I understand a lot of these high schools coaches really like that. He's an Indiana guy and if he actually succeeds I'm not sure he'll leave. There's a lot of upside here and I hope he succeeds.
