Why would a millionaire coach go get drunk in campus bars? Why aren't there pics online of him doing this, like the Urban Meyer stuff? Shouldn't there be proof out there that it's actually happening?

And SMU has a jack ton of money as well. They had donors pony up the cash to put SMU in the ACC and took $0 of TV money. SMU is a serious school.

90% of the public has no idea about who might be the president of their local university. If Beard is hired, no one is going to come at the president, they'll go after the AD. And I haven't heard about the citizens of Oxford storming the administration offices about Beard. The president at UT during Beard's firing wasn't damaged by it. He eventually left and is now the president at SMU.

As someone who is now too old and fat to dress like that, I begrudgingly give him a nod of respect and approval.

The number of people who are aware that IU is a storied program is dwindling every day. The last national title occurred when I was in Jr. High school. I'm a grandfather now. IU is going to have to get real about bringing the program back to respectability, and sometimes that means taking risks that you otherwise wouldn't. That's not to say that I'm a Wade fan, just that I don't feel IU is in a position to turn their nose up at any really good coach.

Nobody that, in the short term, would entice me to watch the games. I'd take a pass until I saw real improvement.

Maybe because no one gives a rat's azz about college kids pounding beers. And if all the Ole Miss "insiders" that have the Beard drinking stats are as well informed as the IU ones, well I guess I know what that's worth.

He got fired 2 years ago, and was hired at Ole Miss two months after that. I haven't seen anything in the news the last 2 years about him getting in trouble, or being found drunk at a bar. I see lots of posts that call him an alcoholic but I'm confused how people have such inside information about his medical condition.

Maybe 4+ years of wandering in the desert has made the powers that be a little more desperate.

I can see "resources" used as a carrot to entice players to go to a school that otherwise has no shot at landing big time recruits. But a basketball blue blood?

So why hasn't any other blue blood program snatched Collins up, if he's that close to a sure thing? Uk or Louisville didn't have the resources?

I don't get the "he would be amazing with IU's resources!" line of thinking. If the resources are so great, why haven't there been decent results over the last 25 years? Shouldn't the resources elevate even a crap coach? Or were the resources nonexistant until this year?

I'll count him out. He's 62 years old and has never coached at any college other than Gonzaga. He's never left the PNW. I can't see any way he'd just up and move away from everything he's ever known, professionally.

The word "concrete" wasn't in any of my posts. I actually enjoy people throwing out candidates or rumors and discussing them. But it really sucks when you're catching up on 10 pages of posts only to find a bunch of dumb jokes that have nothing to do with the topic.

Maybe someone should start a thread of stupid poems and jokes, then you could read them all in one place instead of in the coaching candidate thread.

The real question is why would anyone pay for some VIP message board? They can't give away any real info, they have to be all cryptic. And regardless of what happens, they just happen to always be right. Amazing track record!

Have you heard any such stories about how Ole Miss is "comfortable" with domestic violence? Is that school now "associated with domestic violence"? I don't follow them at all but I haven't read or seen anything about it. Personally, I think if he makes it through 2 seasons without any incidents then there won't be as much talk. Yes, people will remember but it won't be like it just happened.

This is incredibly false. OSU sucks @$$ at basketball and has for several years. But they're currently in the top ten in 7 sports, men & women combined. Just won the men's cross country NC (4th time since 2009). Top 15-20 in football every year. Wrestling, golf, softball, etc. are all really good. Is the NIL program up to snuff? I don't think so. But to say the athletic programs were killed is ridiculous.

I also think it's pretty impressive to be able to say to a recruit, "I played 12 years in the NBA. I know what it takes to make it and I can show you." , before he even has to talk about his NBA coaching record.

I keep seeing this "prints money" comment about Arkansas...why haven't they printed money for a football coach? They were a good football program in the SWC in the old days. You think they want to suck at the sport that makes the REAL money? They've been trash in the SEC, why not throw money at a big time football coach? For that matter, why were they wandering in the desert for so many years after Richardson was axed? They could've money-whipped a big name coach years ago, why didn't they?
