Game Thread: Indiana vs Wisconsin (Tonight @ 6:30PM on BTN)
Naismith replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Moving forward, Indiana needs to keep their players from jumping ship and into some "developmental league." If this group returns - and I don't see one early draft pick among them, next year could be interesting. (Wisconsin starts 3 seniors) -

A bit of a Home Court Advantage up in Iowa City. Free Throws IU: 16 of 19, Iowa: 39 of 47. -
IU VS. PURDUE OFFICIAL GAME THREAD (7 PM ET ESPN2)
Naismith replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If IU allows Purdue to force them into this paralyzed half court "bob & weave" offense - their goose is cooked. -
Someone that needs to consider getting involved with college coaching is Yogi Ferrell. He understands, leadership, communications and excels at all, "on the floor," aspects of the game.

I believe a change is necessary. Not so much regarding the embarrassment incurred this season and prior - but the inevitability of more of the same to come.

What a sad waste of talent. I can't watch this lethargic "half court" self destruction any longer. -

This team could have been special. It actually still could be, but the sun is quickly beginning to set on that possibility. While they have the collective ability to reach tremendous accomplishments - no one is taking a hold of the reins. I well recall the 1981 National Championship Team. There were days that they couldn't beat the church choir - because they would play to their opponents ability. They lost 9 regular season games that year - and then they started to play to their own potential. Someone, either player or coach - grab a hold of the reins... time is running out. -

Seconds remaining and IU is down by three and OG drives for a thunderous dunk. That's two points. Maryland's ball. Great plan... -

I have never understood why T. Crean doesn't use picks / screens to get his extremely capable shooters open. Whether it's Jordan Hulls, James Blackman, Robert Johnson, or whoever - USE A PICK!!!! -

I've been an avid IU fan for 50 years, going back to Lou Watson. I can't do this anymore... -
This Should Be IU's "Final Four" Year. I don't perceive the next couple of years as being nearly as deep & talented, as the present roster will, undoubtedly, be raided by the NBA. I do wish Crean were more of a calming, "strategizing" force on the sideline. Additionally, frantically pulling reserves off the bench and placing them in a "must situation" is, more often, a formula for disaster. IU has the talent and the passion for great things this season - what they need to develop is, the greatly missed, focus & heart of Yogi.
-
Whatever happened to the NCAA allegations regarding UNC creating an eight lane highway to Academic Euphoria - "No Student Athlete Attendance Necessary ..." Kelvin Sampson sends an "excessive number of texts to potential recruits," which is now permissible, and IU's B-Ball Program gets nuked back to the beginning of mankind!!??

Tom Crean BIG 10 coach of the Year (CTC Appreciation Thread)!!!!!!!
Naismith replied to iceman's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Tom Crean talks about how his players adjusted and maneuvered around, often times justified, early season criticism. Their response to the negativity was to accelerate their own improvement, each personally, and as a group, become a single unit. Tom Crean has done the same. He has dovetailed himself with his team and staff and looked within himself to be the best that he can be. Congratulations! -
He might not be the tallest guy on the team, but he definitely has the biggest shoes to fill. Yogi's spoiled us...

#22 Indiana v. Purdue - Pregame Thread - 2/20 at 2030 EST on ESPN
Naismith replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm concerned about Yogi. He's playing as if there are, possibly, personal distractions in his life. I recall back in the early '70s (I've been around awhile) when Johnny Wooden's star, Henry Bibby, UCLA's All American point guard, displayed similar, ongoing, uncharacteristic inconsistency's in his game. Rumor was, Wooden actually sent him to seek the advice of a "professional consultant." UCLA would then go on, with Bibby handily "running the show," to yet another National Title. -

My suggestion, moving forward, is that when the "Ship is Listing," that TC calls a timeout before it is laying on the ocean floor!
