Transfer Portal w/IU Interest
tyappleg replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This place will burn to the ground if our first commit is a mid major PF. Love it. I'd recommend waiting for the whole portal class to come together before assuming we learned nothing from last year. But that's just me. A 6'7 3 point specialist is good to have if that's all your asking of them to do. If this guy is our 5th or 6th best transfer, I think its perfectly fine. You need shooters. You just dont want him to be a focal point of the class and roster (Bailey). -

We would be in a little bit of trouble of there was anything official. -

I choose to believe this is true because I want it to be true. -

April 7th can't come soon enough. -
Sorry, a guy with IU interest either has to be too expensive or not good enough to play at IU. There's no in-between. At least that's what I have learned from the "Transfer Portal w/ IU interest" thread.

Oh definitely. He just made it seem like we only reached to one guy, figured he must have more info than us. -

Is he the only front court guy we targeted? -

I'm not going to pretend to know much about Fru, but I am just not sure how many other realistic options there are out there. The "Big" market is going to be insane this off-season, and almost every team is going to have to "overpay" to an extent. IU needs at least 2 centers, and it seems like Fru is a very solid option to take one of those spots. -

Would be a great start. Would need to add a couple knockdown shooters around them for sure. But would immediately be a big talent upgrade. -

DeVries, Ill forgive you for last year if you can shove Sampson into a locker on this one. -

What I gather from this thread, is that it doesnt matter who transfers in; a lot of people will be unhappy. I've seen a lot of good players listed here get lukewarm reception in here that are going to get strong offers from teams that have been much better than Indiana recently. Most college basketball players will have flaws, very few are going to be good in every area. It's piecing those together to make the puzzle that's important. They failed at that last year, and need to do better this year. Either way, can't wait for next week to watch this sub implode because we got a player they didnt know existed 2 weeks ago. Should be fun. -
My personal order would be: 1. Zona 2. Michigan (hate Michigan, like Dusty) 3. Illinois (hate Illinois) 4. UCONN (hate Hurley + recent success)

Idk, it seems Yaxel Lendeborg is now officially a portal target for IU. I say we go with the AI on this one. -

Miles was a great hustle guy and solid defender by the end of the year. (Maybe the only guy who gave a **** down the stretch) He improved from where he was at beginning of the season. But he's such a zero on offense that he needs to be a lock down type defender to get significant playing time in my opinion. He's not there yet, but his improvement during the year has me hopeful. I'd still keep both Miles and Dorn personally as they both can fill different roles off the bench. (No idea what we paid Dorn, but could see the argument if we overpaid last offseason). We need 5 starters out of the portal regardless of who stays and goes. Id personally rather have 2 guys with a year in the system give us 10 minutes a game next year. (Need Dorn to be more consistent from deep, but I think a more limited role would improve his percentage numbers since he wouldnt (hopefully) have to force things as much) -
Braden Smith appears to have just been shot in the head.

I dont know what everyone is so upset about in this thread. Portal season is the 2nd most exciting time to be an IU basketball fan. Only behind coaching search season, which only happens once every 4 years. Enjoy this time everybody. -
Jeff Capel returning to Pitt for another year. Crazy. Might be the best job in the P4. Being able to go .500 (127-127) for 9 years with only an extension and raise to show for it.

We are currently right on track for the Louisville type rebuild that I was hoping for. 9/10 seed in year 1, and hopefully a strong transfer class gets us into the top 25 next year and we can maintain that success until we can take another leap further down the line.

Well dont have to worry for Tino. He's already back.
