I think that's likely a contributing factor, and that if we had elite shooters that the shot selection wouldn't look quite so good. But I think we would still be well above average because if teams have to key on outside shooting, then that frees up space in the post, making those plays more efficient. IMO it's a helpful chart because it provides focus for what needs to be fixed. Our defense is good. Archie may not be an offensive wizard, but the offensive system is good enough. Just need to get the shooters. He's had enough time to go after shooters and has failed to this point, so he needs to fix that.

Interesting chart from 5th Factor Plots (@5th_Factor, https://twitter.com/5th_Factor/status/1346602906762567680) that I saw going around Twitter yesterday. It seems to statistically reinforce what we've seen in games this season, especially against Maryland. We get good shots, but we're just so bad at shooting. This chart actually indicates that we have nearly the best shot selection in the country coupled with nearly the worst shooting in the country. Quite a combo. This should be in every recruiting pitch to guards. There are easy points to be had in the offense. Hopefully Parker Stewart is an answer, but we still need more shooters.

IUBB vs Maryland - 01/04/21 @ 8:00 on BTN

It wasn't pretty, but an 8 point win without your second best player when you shoot 15% from 3 is pretty good. Aggressive, strong defense. If we can get this version of Rob going forward, that would make a huge difference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'd say he's been a bit unlucky too. There was no contact on the first foul, and the second was a flop too. He didn't play well, but he got screwed by the refs too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

His energy has been a lot better the last few minutes. He has flaws, but he's still a great college player. My issue with him the last two games, and a lot of this one, is that it looked like he was playing soft and lazy. When he's playing like this, he's great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Zach Osterman just said that Franklin hugged Durham and put on his shooting shirt. Doesn't look good for today... -

0-8 on 3s, and I think 7 of them were basically uncontested. None have been particularly close -

I don't feel like we're losing because of effort. IU is outrebounding Maryland and holding them to 37% shooting. Kept it close without scoring for 5 minutes. We're losing because we've bricked 5 wide open 3s. -

Which Players Do You Trust the Most?
Hillsdale87 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It depends what you are asking them to do. Galloway is the best decision maker, although he made one of the worst turnovers of the year at I think around the 1:40 mark in OT yesterday. I trust him to make the smart play, but his lack of outside shooting keeps me from trusting him as a playmaker we can consistently count on. But a solid guy who plus good D, hustles, and move the ball well is extremely valuable still. I don't trust Franklin as a primary ball handler, but if we need a play at the end of the game, he's who I trust most. I trust him to get a bucket. I'm blown away by the leap in his offensive skill set from last year. He gets to the rim so well and finishes through contact. He's getting better at shooting on the move too. TJD is our best player, but he's also the most predictable. He's going to power the ball to the hoop and go up with his left hand. I think teams can take that away at the end of the game when all of the focus will be on him, and I don't know that he processes quickly enough what to do when what he wants is closed off. I don't trust his effort, as it's been up and down this year. But his immense talent means I pretty much always expect him to score quite a bit, even if the effort isn't where it should be. I don't really trust anybody else. They either all have talent or effort issues, or both. A game like last night makes me want to trust Rob. I know the skill set is there, but the confidence is not. Hopefully last night gets him going. It'll probably take a few more games like that to really wake him up. He still looks like he's aiming and hoping on a lot of shots. He didn't have time to think on the game winner and it looked great. Just needs to get out of his own head. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

But that hasn't been the case most of this year. The bigs haven't been over-hedging. And it doesn't help that Trayce is jogging back to get back to his man. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

That's of course definitely not what I said at all. It was a bad performance and a game IU needed to win and should have. Fans and the team should be upset. I just think people are dismissing Northwestern too much. They appear to be pretty solid. A loss can be disappointing without being humiliating to the program. I would say this is just a bad loss, but one that they can recover from. Hopefully they respond well Saturday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
