  1. Rabby posted that he believe Brownell is probably taking the extension at Clemson according to a source. Says it's a good offer.
  2. Armon and Jamarcus Ellis were both booted for the end of the season for a combination of drugs, bad grades, and being late. They both tried to return when Crean was hired, but he said they were kicked off for a reason. Essentially all of Sampson's guys were gone the next year.
  3. Didn't Sampson run a team at Indiana that had drug dealers, and pimps on the team (legitimately) and had gotten so bad academically that we weren't going to be invited to post season tournaments?
  4. Well with the exception that it wasn't reported that Coach K and the rest were linked to the Kentucky job like Sampson Wade and Beard were last year. And the story out there that both of them vetted and moved on from Wade and Beard. But yeah it's probably it was MORE likely that both schools wanted coaches who hadn't won NCAA games and that determination was unrelated to anything else. Though in Beard's case the fact that he's only really had two good season probably could have played a part, but that's still more than Pope had.
  5. Kentucky has passed on Sampson, Beard and Wade in the time since Sampson was here. I do also believe the guys dealing drugs on the team had more to do with his termination than the phone calls.
  6. You watched him have two good seasons and a bunch that are 21-12 to be fair.
  7. Good advice for everyone, it just as easily could have been passed on for exactly the same reasons we think they were passed on here.
  8. Ostermen gets some preferential treatment and usually gets a lot of big statements because he has access. I'm not sure he's more connected than others on the specifics of the search. A journalist explained to me that there's two ways to really get info. You can go in the front door and ask, and you get the info they want you to have. Go in through a window or back door, you may get the info you actually want. Osterman can get a statement when he wants it, but he's not going to ruin his access to get it.
  9. There may have been a reason that Indiana also wanted it out there that they looked into someone like Beard to appease someone as well, weather or not that was a booster or an agent.
  10. A new ownership group is not the same "Celtics" that he's loyal to or did that for him. What if they want to stop paying the luxury tax? What if they say he has to pick between Jaylen Brown and Kosplay Kobe? He might just as easy bolt to another NBA GM gig if he doesn't like what he hears. He moved out from coach before he started getting the heat on them not winning the big game.
  11. Top two are automatic, but there's 16 teams being filled from just the 3 conferences. So IU will get an invite regardless.
  12. Isn't there a clause in Cronin's contract that can lower it by a significant amount? That's what Rabjohn's (who I assumed heard it from Eric) said. I'm unsure if it's an IU specific clause or something else, but that was a pretty clear thing that Rabby didn't talk around that he put out there.
  13. the NIT is on life support, and I can't imagine the CBI continuing with the forcing of the conferences listed teams to play in it and the NIL going along with winning in the Crown.
  14. You aren't allowed to turn down a Crowne invite, it's in the TV contract. At least that's been what's been advertised. So if Indiana gets asked (and they will) they have to go. "Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT. Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox. The network also has a rights agreement with the Pac-12, but it is unclear whether that league would be added due to complications arising from the Pac-12’s impending realignment defections." https://web.archive.org/web/20231012034237/https://themessenger.com/sports/fox-sports-mens-college-basketball-proposed-tournament-las-vegas
  15. Last in the MAC in NIL by a WIDE margin. Almost none. Makes a big difference in the MAC.
  16. This has always been the most compelling argument. You can see what the change in ownership has done to the Mavericks, and you can see who's getting the blame for it, their GM NIco. Getting out now gives him a free ticket to go back for big money into another GM job, no matter what he does coaching. The Celtics as constructed have nowhere to go but down.
  17. You hated our last Big 10 championship and Sweet 16 run?
  18. Then he isn’t eligible for a buyout. It’s a binary thing contractually.
  19. On the list and willing to take the job are different things. Mick Cronin badly wants this job.
  20. It even more likely that this push is from his agent to get Iowa to move quick.
  21. However, Rabby has to start gambling at some point. He's got to show his subscribers that he "knows" something. With how quite things have been in this search, he's probably feeling the heat. Oh after they stirred up that Beard stuff last week (after saying he wasn't a candidate since the start) then immediately went back to saying he's not a candidate, he's been banning people right and left when people were rightfully starting to get after him.
  22. 200 a day plus expenses I believe.
  23. There hasn't been a big name coach hired at a major Blue Blood program in some time. Louisville and Kentucky just hired guys who never won a NCAA tournament game last year. Unless something happens like with Calipari being forced out, the odds that in the NIL era that a coach who's winning and has a comfortable NIL set up to move schools isn't likely. the choices are going to be reclamation projects or up and coming coaches and it has nothing to do with Indiana at a program.
