I’m not sure either. It was a genuinely curious question. I have said from the outset that this is going to be a long rebuild. Folks didn’t like to hear that. DDV may be an excellent coach but he is completely unproven as a recruiter. He is going to have to prove that he can win with less talented players for awhile. My guess is that we are 3-5 years away from competing at the top half of the B1G.

Indiana Basketball has been a corpse since the Crean firing.

Noticing the same patterns that have become cyclical with Indiana Basketball and its fans. New coach is hired. Some red flags start to raise, regarding whether coach is able to have success. Some fans make mention of their concern. Others (usually the same exact people as times past) shame and gaslight them into believing everything is fine and they have no basis to have concern. rinse… repeat. People came to this board and many others and stated openly that Dolson had a goal to make this hire prior to the portal opening. Here we are WEEKS after the opening and we have a total of 4 players on our roster. We’ve whiffed on guys we’ve prioritized. Players and coaches. Wilkerson leaves campus and visits UK, our chances to land him become slim to none. Anyone in sales understands this. There is a very real possibility that we end up with a roster that is worse than WVU’s from last season. We couldn’t be off to a worse start. but yeah…. Convince yourself that we are somehow going to pull a Florida and win a natty without reeling in any of our prioritized targets. how many guys did Goldin prioritize last year and flat out whiff on? Curious to know.

Wilkerson won’t be committing to IU….. how do I know this? I got excited about him and watched his highlights for an hour. Im batting .000 on these.

I have a question for those who would know……. How many of the same people responsible for hiring/retaining Mike Woodson were still in a position of decision making authority for the most recent hiring cycle?

Prediction: Enright - IU Flory - Auburn Dix - Illinois Conwell - Louisville (although I thought he’d be at Texas) There’s nothing IU can sell to championship level players other than cash. The problem is in our arrogance, others have equally robust, if not more resources. Other teams have gm’s in place, full staff’s, and news of being in on many of the top portal players so far. Something seems very off with Indiana. Feels like they haven’t gotten any of this **** figured out. If I had to bet, I’d say that we don’t even know who our full staff is and are scrambling to fill a roster that currently has 2 players. People will get pissed at me for this but it’s just the same old cognitive dissonance. The one constant over 3 decades is that Indiana University has no idea how to get basketball decisions right. Like I said a couple days ago. I hope you guys are ready for a much longer build than what you were hoping for. The only path to winning for Indiana is a similar path that Purdue had to take with Painter. CDD is going to have to scout his @$$ off and win with the scraps and leftovers. The best coach for that reality was Ben McCollum. I’ll see myself out.

Indiana basketball has no juice.

Completely apathetic. Not sold that he’s going to be able to out recruit and out coach the rest of the coaches in the B1G. How good is he without his all conference caliber son? Can he get this thing going quickly? Can he get it going at all? Indiana has proven itself as a very difficult place to win and it chews guys up and spits them out.

I was pretty optimistic about Sampson. That didn’t turn out great, although he was the best coach we’ve had since Knight. Crean made me feel very similar to how I feel now. Archie was the darling of the national media, so I was most optimistic about him, honestly. The Woody hire was deflating and signaled to me that this program didn’t have the prestige that we’ve always believed it had. Or that it’s been ran by people who are incapable of making productive hires. And to clarify….. I’m not s***ting in CDD. I don’t have any concerns about his systems or style. I just am having a hard time getting excited. I’m comparing him to the best coaches in our conference and I’m not 100% confident that he’s going to consistently have us beating these guys out. That’s fair, no? I’m not dooming. I’m hoping for the best but I’m not allowing myself to have any lofty expectations. Very similar to the Cig hire. The excitement wasn’t there until it was evident that the team was competitive. I obviously want this hire to go well. I’m just not drinking the kool aid yet.

Man…… I promise you all that I’m trying….. but I do not feel an ounce of excitement towards IUBB. Not even a little bit. I can’t tell if it was the apathy from the last 2 years, or whether I’m just missing something with CDD. I’ve read, watched, and listened to all things CDD lately and it’s not moving me at all. I hope everyone adjusts their expectations and realizes that this is going to be a much longer build than what we were wanting.

Don’t you dare tease about Conwell.

I really wanted McCollum. I believe deeply that he was the best coach and a generational guy. Nothing about Devries makes me feel that he’s the guy to get us back to consistently being at the top of the B1G. Hope I’m wrong.

So absurd that we get labeled as toxic crazies, when this has been the production on the floor. We can’t even make a 68 team field in 7 of the last 10 seasons. This program deserves ZERO fan support.

Yup. Exactly how this played out the last 2 times. People just don’t want to believe it. IU isn’t serious about basketball and hasn’t been since the 90’s

Championship level coaches win championships at every level. In no world is Brad Brownell considered a better winner than Ben McCollum. Todd Goldin, Nate Oats are killing it right now at football schools. Is the number of losing records and middle to bottom of the conference finishes our standard for hiring, this cycle? If McCollum (who’s won 12 straight league titles) is a huge risk, then Brad Brownell is a huge white flag.
