Coronavirus and Sports Only - PLEASE and THANK YOU

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/covid-19-in-mlb-tracking-positive-coronavirus-cases-and-players-who-opted-out-as-2020-season-begins/amp/ Here was a fairly decent tracking of who so far is known and what if any symptoms were known for MLB. Mostly asymptomatic or mild cases. Haven’t read on any of their families or friends catching this from ball players. Which I doubt we see much of that. -

I am pretty sure for MLB at least in the CBA made it so that MLB cannot provide that data. Only the player can. That was one of the points of contention when they were voting on the safety aspect of the CBA. I am pretty sure they can’t explicitly name which players have tested positive either, but that’s pretty easy to see when they go on that specific “Illness List”. Then their only protocol is they have to have two negative COVID tests. -
Let me know if you find out differently. I didn’t dive that far into it once I heard that. That would be similar to my dads libre checker for diabetes. It tracks his sugar every second on an app. I would hope the data input into that wouldn’t be public knowledge too. He tracks his meals amongst other things on there.

I don’t think they are worried about them spreading on the field as much as on planes, buses, hotels, and in the locker rooms. For the most part they can keep teams mostly separated. It’s why I am surprised they didn’t stick with a bubble like MLS and NBA. Imagine a sport like football where everyone and everything is up close and personal, and they aren’t going in a bubble. I just don’t see the NFL making it through a season. -

It is, but 15 players is hard to overcome even with the pool of players they have. They essentially become non competitive as is. Is it worth the risk if it’s not absolutely contained? Glad I don’t get paid to answer that question. -

Four more Marlins tested positive. Up to 17. Wonder if they will end up having to forfeit games or not. Most of the Covid pools are comprised mainly with pitching. There aren’t a ton of positional players on those. Not sure of their situation but dependent how many players got it we will have to see. So far no Phillies got it. -
I use an app to track my sleeping. The way it was explained to me is since I have a medical diagnosis for a sleeping disorder it’s covered. If it wasn’t I wouldn’t feel as good about the data they track.
-
It honestly depends for me. What kind of structure the app is set up on and what can they do with the information. I mean if they are selling the data to third parties then hard no. If Jeff Bezos is in charge probably not, I kid. Honestly it would come down to if they could somewhat control the data similar to HIPPA. I would feel sorry for the Information Security team in charge of that. For me it would all come down to the structure of the security. I work for Lincoln Financial. I know for a fact we get hit close to 20,000 times a day with various data mining softwares to try and steal our data. We have a solid security setup. It truly looks like a NASA controls center. Honestly it’s more structured than even hospital organizations not just localized health care systems. I would envision something similar on a grander scale because it would be the most wanted data in the world. Even then it wouldn’t be safe.

That is fantastic news! Hopefully all goes well, and with their accelerated timelines they could have this out to the mass by late spring next year. Holding out hope this doesn’t take over all of 2021.

They just cancelled their game for today. -
Marlins game today just got cancelled with 4 players testing positive in 3 days.

Agreed. I feel the mixed messages are creating more harm than anything.

That’s the million dollar question for sure. I too will be curious if anyone ever announces why specifically they started there.
-
Question because I honestly don’t pay attention to Andrew Cuomo as much as others. Is he in tight and confined spaces where social distancing is not an option when he is maskless? If so, I definitely agree with you that’s a mixed signal that is wrong. Edit: How do you feel about Florida’s ban on alcohol sales? If more than 50% of their sales is from alcohol the business can not operate. I have seen Andrew Cuomo complaints but not many from states where Republicans are in charge and their rules are actually tougher.

Maybe their sample size was small when they initially said what they said? Maybe after gathering millions more data samples that changed their mind? I don’t think anyone but them has that answer.

FDA approval is validation. That is the standard in America.

I understand you keep going back to Dr Fauci from 60 minutes. I have posted the transcripts from that interview. Please read the whole transcripts. He openly stated his main concern was for the healthcare providers running out of PPE. At that time he also stated all Covid strains were not transmitted through asymptomatic people. They learned that wasn’t the case a couple of months later. The rest of what you said I 100% agree with. I feel people need to be educated more, but it’s a two way street. In your response you are hung up on something he said in February. In my other response it was because of something said in May. This is end of July. We have to trust they are learning more on a regular basis, and hope the people in charge have our best interests in mind. Believe me, I understand the skepticism, but we are all getting hung up on the things that are so beyond unimportant. I hope we all move past trying to one up everyone and try to do our part to be a part of the solution. I am a greedy grumpy bastard. I want my sports. If the best possible way to get there is through avoiding being in tight and confined spaces, wearing a mask when I can’t avoid people, and washing my hands regularly I am all for it. I don’t know how many more seasons of Outdaughtered or any other DIY shows my wife watches I can take.

Wayne, you know the answer to this. You deal with the FDA daily. You know how long it takes for anything to be FDA approved. Years ago when digital radiography was new in the dental world (early 2000s) it took close to 10 years for FDA to openly state there wasn’t more scatter radiation with the same tube head. This specific strain is less than a year old. There will not be a Covid-19 specific test for years. I agree with you the numbers are going to be jacked either high or low. That part is definitely up for interpretation. We will be lucky if we are within 10% in either direction, but it’s the best we got and I know you know that. The FDA is a pain in the @$$ and we will be lucky to have this specific strain tested within five years. Maybe on a trial basis with various tests, but nobody will stick their neck out and say they are sure of any numbers beyond talking heads in the media.

And that is because the test hasn’t been FDA approved - aka it hasn’t been thoroughly vetted. Essentially we are the FDA study. There is no way around that in the middle of an epidemic. Typically these tests go through years of studies before they put a sticker on a label that says 98% accurate or whatever. If this is a big complaint I honestly don’t know what to say or what you want anyone to do. Complain to the FDA? Complain to larger companies such as Roche? There is no way with any level of certainty someone can say this has a certain level of accuracy. On either side, but it’s the best we got. Same as tracking deaths to me, which I am shocked how people were that caught up on how they track and maintain death count. I am starting to think people think every person that dies goes through all of these batteries of tests which they just don’t. Usually there is a morgue in the basement of a healthcare facility if you are lucky. Some hospitals just have a storage room they place the dead in. The coroner looks at the chart of a patient within a hospital and signs their death certificate. If there is a criminal investigation they look further. Otherwise, they write down what their most recent significant symptom is and move on because they are busy. There are no numbers in any medical death of any manner that are gospel. The sooner we get over that mental hurdle we can move on and try to improve.

Also from the CDC updated last on June 28th (below). So the update from early May is that asymptomatic people can transmit. I really won’t argue something said almost 3 months ago. Science changes daily and for the better. If we are cherry-picking things said months ago it’s to prove a point that isn’t based on science. Hell 30 years ago seat belts were optional because there wasn’t a widely held belief they really helped that much. Studies and science proved that wrong. You don’t hear people arguing today they don’t need to wear one because someone said 30 years ago they don’t help. Hell anyone 35 and under didn’t typically sit in car seats when they were younger. Science and understandings change. Every day we learn so much more about this thing. It doesn’t matter who is right and wrong. I just hope we all do our part so we can enjoy living very soon. From the CDC (updated June 28th): COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice (e.g., while shouting, chanting, or singing). These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Recent studies show that a significant portion of individuals with COVID-19 lack symptoms (are “asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (are “pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. Wearing a cloth face covering will help protect people around you, including those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and workers who frequently come into close contact with other people (e.g., in stores and restaurants). Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html#recent-studies There is a link to their citation of recent studies that made this update along with the CDC providing an overview.

Kind of surprised on Adam Kunkel this late. Something either had to happen or someone reached out prior that piqued his interest.

You go with that and you are liable to push a few Kentuckians over that edge. Some just won’t step in that place anymore. I mean, I am not sure that is necessarily a threat. But apparently that is the ultimate heresy. Man, I would absolutely hate it if we changed our name to the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Hypothetically speaking of course. Pa, put on some pants, we are marching to Lexington!!!

I think if anyone needs some decent laughs head over to Rupp Rafters. Some are pulling out the dictionary tonight. There are three and sometimes four syllables being written. They are that mad.
