I dont know if you really are but I hate the McCollum Cig comparisons. Cig built up multiple programs! McCollum dominated D2 with a team that won the conference the year before he started then was great at Drake the one year he was there. And Drake was already built up and running strong from DeVries when McCollum took over!

Yeah watching Iowa this year has made me glad we didn’t go with him
-
Was a lot more optimistic before Purdue went on the run to end the half

I’ll start by saying I’ve never heard of this young man or seen him play. But a 6’7” kid that cant/wont shoot 3s and can’t make ft’s does not sound like someone that would be successful in a P4 conference.

UK is so lucky. Barely squeak by Santa Clara then likely to play an Iowa St. team without their best player.

Crean deserves a lot of love and appreciation from IU fans for his time here. But it was time to move on. The future of the program wasnt bright as he had really screwed up recruiting towards the end. Not to mention there were off the court issues during his time here that crean lovers forget to mention. It was the right call and his time at UGA proved it. If you think crean deserved to be the coach at iu solely becuase he won multiple (2) conference championships in 9 years unless Billy Donovan or Brad Stephens came knocking then I dont know what to tell you.

All of the comparisons our fans try to make between Cig and the basketball coach are ridiculous. Cig is a 1 of 1 and completed the greatest and fastest turn around in CFB history. He won big and he did it instantly. We say about IUBB all the time - Winning solves everything and thats exactly what Cig did. We can look back now at all the things cig said when he was hired, the expectations he set for the program, etc. but the main reason he is different is because he won. The idea that we should be able to hit a homerun hire for the basketball coach just because we hired Cig and should look for a guy with his same traits is insane. It sounds good in theory, and I agree a lot of his traits are the traits you would want in a head coach but if it was that easy Cig wouldnt be a 1 of 1.

Definitely didnt help but they had lost 5 of 6 before the game he got hurt.

He also benefits from being in the ACC although it was a bit stronger this year.

It’s amazing how many D1 kids can’t purposefully miss a free throw while hitting the rim

Glad to see I'm not the only dummy that picked them over Duke!

This got out of hand quick for OSU

He definitely put himself in a position to grow this off season with how poor it went last time, ha. Heres to hoping -

I agree with you regarding placating to the fans. But if he wasnt going to bring his WVU staff, he had to start with his connections. 2 of his connections happen to be 2 of the top assistants in the game so you obviously have to start there. They were still playing after devries was hired and, depending what you believe, appeared to have real interest. They each got raises and stayed put leaving Devries standing there like an idiot without a plan. Hopefully with a full staff and time to prepare for the portal the results are much better this year. I at least feel a little better that he tried to target top assistants. Shows that he knows how important it is to have great assistants on staff which can only be a good sign. -

More outrage over the season we just had is obvious. A lot of our fan base believed Brad Stephens was going to be our coach. Of course those same people that think since we are Indiana we can get whoever we want no matter what wouldve been pissed to not go after 2 of the top assistants in the country that Devries had ties to. And we have a lot of those fans out there. Him not bringing staff from WVU has been discussed at length and there are valid and obvious reasons why none came with him. I'm sure all of this was discussed and Dolson was aware before the hire was made. You are right though him having a staff in place and ready to rock as soon as he got to Bloomington would have been ideal. -

Mike Wiemuth brought up a good point on the latest X's and Joes pod. Devries had prior connections with 2 of top assistants and recruiters in the country in Preston Murphy (Alabama) and Moikubu (sp?. Texas Tech). He went hard after those guys, both of which were apparently interested and still playing until losing in the elite 8, but ultimately ended up getting pay rises to stay at their current jobs. Imagine the outrage this fanbase would have if he hadnt pursued those 2 guys who he had connections with and both happen to be of the top assistants in the country. This upcoming season is definitely a put up or shut up season for Devries but I do think there were a lot of circumstances that didnt go his/IU's way last off season while assembling a staff and roster. -
Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

I know we’re all optimistic for the future of the program but a top assistant leaving bama for the same role at IU seems like a pretty big risk at the moment. -
12 minutes into the game and Clemson has 3 made FGs.

Are they on spring break like IU? Not great if true but this could definitely play a role. -

I think we keep it simple - Coach. Its Indiana. Coach refers to the head coach of IUBB
