The percentage of departments that have excess money each year is very low. And this is money taken away from an existing budget. Think 20% of a big budget now allocated somewhere else. That’s what is happening.

It’s anticipation of the salary cap coming. $20M. That’s coming from the department budget not NIL.

Do you know the operating budget for basketball at Michigan compared to IU? Are you aware of what actually is happening with Stevens? Just as you push the narrative as there’s no way Brad comes is the same as the criticism you level against those that do believe it to be possible. You can’t have it both ways. My thinking is monetary and the brand. Two things. First is that you will lose good money if this goes south quickly. Apathy, lack of butts in seats, concession sales. Secondly, the brand. As someone else stated, you can’t have boos raining down during the Michigan game, or chants of “we want Dusty” as Woody just sits there. Being embarrassed on national tv, which IU has a few more to go through, with a former player on the sidelines. Cut bait now, and you at least give the discourse to be “what are the options next” versus “look at this pathetic display”. point being the narrative changes and that has both monetary value and brand value.

Question for you: if these legends deserve the praise, they can also receive the scorn if their interests are not in the well being of the program, but rather their own interests. Just because players accomplished a lot as players, doesn’t mean they are in bubble wrap as administrators and coaches because of what they did 50 years ago. You discuss standards. Shouldn’t we have standards of excellence? Should we not expect that from the stewards of this program? Or rather we keep our hands behind our back and our mouths shut because of deference?? If it really were about the name on the front instead of the back, we wouldn’t be here today because decision makers are ACTUALLY looking at the name on the back instead of the front. I ask you think about that while we move forward.
