That is not even remotely true. He walks on water at UVa - second only to Thomas Jefferson, and perhaps not by much.
-
Quite the contrary. They both were likely transfers because he has recruited better players and they weren't going to get much PT next year.
-
Because his best player was injured. Often overlooked in the discussion of Bennett's tournament success is the fact that in 4 of his 5 tournament appearances at Virginia one of his two best players has been injured (2012 - Brogdon, Harris; 2014 - Gill; 2015 - Anderson; 2017 - Wilkins). Last year was the only year he has had a reasonably healthy team and they steamrolled to the Elite Eight before losing a heartbreaker to a conference opponent with a Hall of Fame coach. Speaking of which, the coaches who had eliminated him prior to Mike White this year - Donovan, Izzo, Izzo, Boeheim. That speaks more to bad luck and small sample size than any real evidence he can't win in the tournament.

Student Section of the Year . . . Virginia "As the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship approaches, the University of Virginia has already earned one national title this season. The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) and the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today that Virginia has won the third annual Naismith Student Section of the Year Award. A total of 255 schools representing 32 conferences submitted entries for the award, which was launched nationally on January 22. The Virginia basketball student section, named the `Hoo Crew, topped seven other top candidates: Arizona State University, University of Colorado, Illinois State University, Indiana University, University of Kansas, University of Minnesota, and Virginia Commonwealth University."

What happened to my post?

I'll raise a crean glass to that!

The guy who tweeted this is the NC Central beat writer for the Durham newspaper, so the tweeter is legitimate and coming from an NC State perspective. This leaves little question that an arena security guard actually told him this. The question is how reliable is our favorite security guard. Evidently the writer thinks he is trustworthy enough to tweet that.

Let them keep Porter if they agree to take Crean.
-
I could see Virginia Tech or maybe Maryland being attractive to him.
-
Well, that is a great way to piss off a large portion of your readership.
-
And a much better coach.

Sanchez would be an excellent hire, but I can't imagine him being considered at IU for his first head coaching job. He is an excellent recruiter and has been with Bennett for Bennett's entire career after getting his master's at IU and serving as a volunteer assistant for 2 years. http://insider.espn.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/on-the-trail/insider/post?id=15109 17. Ron Sanchez, Virginia Cavaliers Perhaps the most unassuming figure on this list, Sanchez has never been one to take credit for specific recruits. What’s undeniable though is that he’s been by Tony Bennett’s side from his first day as a head coach at Washington State and followed him to Virginia. Along the way he’s developed a keen eye for talent and, specifically, what it takes to thrive in Bennett’s system. From Klay Thompson in 2008 to Kyle Guy in the 2016 class and numerous others in between, Sanchez has proven he can spot talent and land commitments from almost anywhere in the country.

We'll find out when 41 wakes up.

He says Alford . . .
-
He had a 16-point second half lead in the Elite Eight last year with players he recruited before he had even started having real success at Virginia. He would have no problem recruiting players good enough to win championships at IU.
-
Not just Guy, he had 4 top 70 players in that class (5, if you include Mamadi Diakite who reclassified to enroll a year early and was rated a 5-star by some services). http://www.espn.com/colleges/basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/258/class/2016
-
He would be better than Wisconsin. He already has better athletes at Virginia. Averaging 70-75 points per game isn't so bad when you hold your opponents to 55.
-
Usually, they are very pretty to watch, but like any team they occasionally have bad shooting nights, and those games perhaps look worse than another team's off night because of their pace, but even in those games they have a chance to win because of their defense.
-
Right. It would be terrible to consistently have the best defense in the nation, a top seed in the tournament and fundamentally sound, high character student-athletes.
-
That is excellent. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't see a Calipari picture, but I looked at the Louisville guy's page and stand corrected, as he does have a picture of a Virginia basketball on his page.
-
He is not a Virginia guy. He is a radio personality in Louisville, which means he understands as well as anyone what Bennett has built at UVa, clearly moreso than McCrite does. Bennett would be a home run hire and a great fit at IU, but I would be shocked to see him leave Virginia for anything other than the NBA (and that only after his kids are grown).
