Personally I'm not worried. Not being able to do something we haven't been able to do in 20+ years isn't something that's going to kill my confidence, and doubt it does the team's either. We saw how well we could play in the 1H, and we saw how bad we can play in the 2H. Lots of teaching moments. I could nit pick all kinds of stuff, but I'm just not going to lol. If we're stepping on our own dicks at midseason, I'll be more troubled. Tonight I chalk mostly up to bad PG play. Lots of other things, but not freaking out.

Welp, that's all she wrote.... My thoughts.... Incredible first half Incredibly bad 2nd half Haven't beaten them in Madison since 1998.... Losing this one stings, but nothing serious. We were road dogs.

first foul on Johnny lol

Nice strong move to get the foul. Feed the beast.

Boom. Great O rebound and bucket there to slow things down.

Given the past several years, I feel ya. The whole 1H I was waiting on the shoe to drop. It never did. We just can't step on our own dicks in the 2H. Given the Wiscy/IU history, and just Wiscy home floor history in general, this could be an early statement game for the new regime and team. Lots of time left so the boys need to come back out with the lunch pail in the 2H and go to work.

Welp, so much for slow starts of the past. Tremendous first half. 57% FG 71% 3pt 75% FT 17 pt lead.....

Bahahaha That baseline drive from TJD is exactly what he needed to add to his toolbox.

Come on Bates, not the time for that lol... Would have beautiful had it worked though. In-time young man, in time

Yup. That's why I said I'm really excited to see how Woody attacks them on O. IMO, we'll have plenty of outside opportunity, and if we shoot 3s well, we might just pull it out. While I think Race will be a big factor and get his, I think we need one of the outside shooters to step up and throw some daggers. I'm with you on the need to defend Davis.... Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I think Woody has a plan for it. Maybe rotate Stewart, Bates and Leal on him, and just really wear him down. I'd like to see Leal get a hot at him given his scrappiness last game.

Gonna be a fun game. I think we lose a very close game, but would not be shocked if we win. We'll try to speed things up, they'll try to slow things down. They will try to feed it Davis for 3s, we'll try to impose our will with TJD. I'm most interested to see how Woodson attacks them on O, and what his plan is for Davis.

When you have a "new" scheme, "new" starters, "new" coach, you tend to "think" more... When you're thinking too much, and not playing naturally, you do stupid stuff like running before dribbling. On top of new/thinking, there's new/chemistry. We'll see. I don't disagree with the area of improvement that you mention, I just disagree with you on the root cause, and perhaps the ability overcome.
-
I think the team is still feeling themselves out. So much "new". I won't start getting overly critical about stuff till mid season when the rotation if baked, and guys are comfortable in the new system. A lot of open questions like you said, but there's some clear areas of improvement (3pt, FT). I'm more than happy at this point. But of course I want more.

While I don't disagree with a lot of this, I think some of it's purely 3 new starters, and a lot of "new" stuff to everyone. I think the first 5 or so B10 games will be learning games. After that, I expect the line up and rotation to be mostly set (except for matchup changes), and for some guys to emerge. Not saying things will be perfect after game 5, but I think we'll see some things start to become clearer. It'll take mid season IMO till guys start to play comfortably within the new system with each other.
