2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
Ohreally replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As did McRoberts. Both were unequivocal and definite in their responses that they believed he'd play next year. Ex-players don't have to parse their words, as you say. -
2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
Ohreally replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He committed 10.7 fouls per 40 minutes. That's not much less than twice the rate of the next most foul-prone player on the roster. Seems like a reason to me. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

Just FYI, if true, that would make them first cousins once removed, not second cousins. -
The game is on Thursday.

Secret Scrimmage vs Loyola of Chicago
Ohreally replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I wonder if the B1G mandated these after the conference's poor non-conference showing last year as a way to have early experience against good opponents. I think all B1G teams suddenly have a closed scrimmage this year after mostly having two exhibitions recently. -
Just FYI, for the four-way tie to occur, Michigan would have to lose at Maryland in addition to losing at Penn State.

ESPN's Updated Class of '16 Rankings
Ohreally replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Just to underline your point, Ohio State's 2015 class was rated by 247 as the fifth-best, and Indiana's the 29th-best, and we all know how that turned out. -
And, of course, all those fools who delude themselves into thinking they know something were assuring us this time last year that Hartman "will never see the floor."

Offensive rating 124.3 vs. 116.5. Assist % 26.7 vs. 21.5. TOV% 14.2 vs. 18.3. Which would you rather have?

Historic turn around for defense?
Ohreally replied to FindEndNow's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Love the "historic turnaround" rhetoric. People are fixated on rank, rather than amount of improvement needed. There is less variance in defensive efficiency than in offensive each year; last year there was only 70% as much. That means that for a given amount of improvement in points given up, there is a greater improvement in defensive rank than you would see in offensive rank with the same improvement in points scored. This past year IU scored 10.2 more points per 100 possessions against the average D1 opponent (Pomeroy's adjusted offensive efficiency) than they did the year before. If they were to improve to the same degree in points allowed in the upcoming year, their adjusted defensive efficiency would rank them as the 31st-best defense in the country (using last year's defensive numbers for the other teams). That's giving up about 6.6 fewer points in the average game than last year. While that may not be easily done, it's definitely doable, and definitely not "historic". -

Eyewitness Testimony from a Passenger
Ohreally replied to CampHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Conceivable, but unlikely. It's hard for that to happen without the patient being DOA. And the reported return to consciousness this early would be against it. My guess is that the ventilator was required for pulmonary reasons; remember Davis was described as having "internal injuries". -
You'd better check another source. Deadspin just this week published a lie about a politician.

Quite the contrary, actually. We do simpletons no favors by failing to correct their errors. Consider how much smarter you would be today if only people had corrected yours.

Fortunately, Crean is undoubtedly smarter than you are and thus has long since learned that making snap judgments on the basis of very little data is a very poor idea.

IU falsely accused of being 1 of 55 schools under investigation for Title IX violations

Harassing people is simply what the regime does. Nothing to see here. -
ESPN's Joe Lunardi thinks Crean will be Fired...
Ohreally replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Okay, I'll walk you through it just this once. Implicit in your statement that the majority of fans feel that Crean's future at IU is short is your assumption that those who bloviate on the boards you read are a representative sample of IU fandom and that their numbers reach statistical significance in generalizing about said fandom. Neither is factually correct. In my opinion, moderators should be happy when people call out those who make assertions that have no basis in fact, even if those assertions are those of the moderators. -

The trouble with Halftime Adjustment's analysis is that he relies too much on a single statistic, the A/T ratio, which causes him to make ludicrous statements such as the one about no team being successful with a point guard having an A/T ratio similar to Ferrell's. He could simply look up Andrew Harrison's A/T ratio to find that that statement is incorrect. The A/T ratio does not speak directly to either the numerator or the denominator. Thus, his #1 player in that ratio, Morris of Iowa State, actually has a significantly lower assist rate than does Ferrell. It would appear that Ferrell is not the selfish point guard that Halftime imagines him to be. In order to be better-informed about Ferrell's worth as a point guard, Halftime would be well-advised to peruse advanced stats available at several websites. If he were to do that, he would find, for instance, that exactly nine out of Real GM's database of 540 college point guards had a better combination of turnover rate, assist rate, and true shooting percentage than did Ferrell. Morris was not one of them. Regarding turnovers, the truth is that while Ferrell could stand to reduce his turnovers, he was significantly better than average in turnover rate among college point guards, and he had a lower turnover rate than any other of IU's admittedly turnover-prone regular players. -
Indiana Rivals predicts us to finish 9th next season
Ohreally replied to NotTheReal HoosierHoopster's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If the predictor believes he has enough data to accurately predict IU's relative position next year without even knowing the eventual rosters of the various schools, he is, of course, an idiot. However, if he made the prediction as a way to sell an agenda, it may be an effective ploy to sway the intellectually challenged toward his way of thinking.
