It was just a comment about him, not him being connected to IU. I believe he announced he was staying and then a few days later entered the portal so the conclusion there is that he was lured and has a spot in mind. Both from a cash and minutes availability standpoint, it would be very unlikely that spot is IU. At least in my opinion

Yeah them taking a break right now doesn’t mean this is the full roster. The portal entry period closes on the 21st. Based on prior years, there’s going to be another flurry of players into the portal in the last few days. It’ll be good to have open spots and flexibility when that happens. It doesn’t make much sense for us to rush to fill out the rest of the roster, especially when they are comfortable with the core of the team. They should take their time to find the right role players that complement the roster and can play off the bench. I’ll change my tune if they really only fill 10 scholarships, but that would be extremely shocking.

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t stay in the draft. Portal is pretty much just a safety plan if he gets injured or something.

Transfer portal rankings can be fun to look at but they’re mostly useless. There’s far too many players in the portal for the rating services to have any ability to rank them accurately

There was some speculation he was happy at UNM but entered the portal so he could take visits with his brother. UNM probably just said we’ll take a commitment from your brother and give you a raise. He gets a bump and gets to play with his brother, not the worst outcome in the world. Makes me feel way better about getting Lindsey if that scenario was correct

I think he just says things to be abrasive but whether he means it or not, Dorn should not be anywhere near this team. He’s a good guy and I wish him well but he’s not a very good basketball player. He was an extremely streaky shooter who caught a two week heater and had some big scoring games because of it. They can find a capable shooter who can also play competent defense, rebound, and dribble, which are three things I’m not confident dorn can do (at least at the requisite level to succeed in the big ten)

He seemingly wants to go back to the west coast so likely not an option anyways, but I was a little hopeful they would get involved with Brady Dunlap from SLU as an off the bench shooter. He would fill that role really well, but I haven’t seen anything connecting him to IU and I think he’s taking visits out west

I’m curious if they leave a spot open in case that nutty fin Muurinen wants to throw them a bone and play in college for a year. But if it’s evident that won’t be an option, they should grab someone from the portal. Unfortunately for a lot of players, there’s going to be a bunch still in the portal into the summer because we’re approaching like 3000 athletes entered right now I believe.

I’ve seen some consternation about hall’s athleticism and lateral quickness but I think he has enough other weapons to his game to mitigate any issue from a jump up in competition. The obvious first aspect is he’s a flamethrower from deep. He also has a great pump fake and a decent enough dribble. He’s also be playing with a primary guard who can actually beat his defender off the dribble which should create space for all the off ball players. I think his strengths make up for any concern about athleticism. He’s a killer. I have belief in anyone who scored over 3,100 points in high school to be able to find space to score.

ND Okafor from WSU is a guy they’ve contacted. He’d probably make some sense as a 15 minute off the bench front court player

Reibe won’t take a bench role so I’d imagine he’s out. Not the end of the world, he’s a pretty flawed player. He did not give UConn good minutes in the tournament; teams were attacking him defensively and getting him in foul trouble with ease.

What does a successful day portal wise look like today for everyone? The obvious is a sherrell announcement. Beyond that, my largest priority would be locking up a visit from Jake hall as well as a back up point guard.

I think it’ll be fine because no one expects Darian to say “it’s not my job to get open shots for three point shooters” or similar nonsense.

He probably wouldn’t get bashed so much if he didn’t continuously do bash-able things. Food for thought

I really like what I’ve seen from rancik and it seems like he’s a plus defender but I think it’s a stretch to comp him to yaxel (even if it’s just comping the role). Yaxel is such a unique basketball player that very few can emulate.
