Look, you all need to settle down. Mike can’t shoot for them………. . . Mike also can’t screen for them. Mike can’t rebound for them. Mike can’t take a $h!t for them. Mike can’t coach for them. Mike can’t draw up a play for them. Mike can’t substitute properly for them. Mike can’t game plan for them. Mike can’t recruit for them. Mike can’t gamble for them. Mike can’t order Taco Bell for them. Mike can’t find the hump for them. (Let alone get over it for them) But what Mike CAN do for them is get them over paid so he IS doing his job. Lay off of him so he can call off practice tomorrow to go find the hump on the golf course. This time if he can just find it, he might be able to drive the cart over it instead of spiraling out of control, down the wrong side of the hump and into a pond or tree like the last 22 times. Damn it Lucy, stop moving the football, we are trying to play golf here, err, I mean find the hump so I can see if I see my shadow to know if I have 6 more weeks of coaching left. -

At, gotcha. I just misunderstood then. We agree.

Not sure why you quoted me? All I said was that the candidate threads could be locked because we officially had a coach. To which I said I hoped we wouldn’t need a new one for a long time as I was rooting for him to succeed, but I was not very confident that would be the case (jury still out = I don’t know about this hire, I have doubts but I’m hoping it works out, it obviously didn’t). So my hesitation on the hire was actually pretty accurate.

Let me re-phrase and elaborate: Crean was a great coach in most aspects except for the 40 minutes that count on the court. He was a very below average in game coach. Substitutions, schemes, adjustments were all very poor and he was so inconsistent that it led to his downfall. He won with talent and hustle but got out coached often. He was able to develop talent but his sporadic demeanor destroyed his recruiting relationships towards the end and it sealed his fate along with the poor in game coaching. But he understood what Indiana is and was and what it meant. He understood and loved this university for what it is! If I could combine him and Sampson with their best qualities, you would have a hell of a coach. -

No, you completely ARE missing the point. It doesn't matter who it is. Give it to Ya, Calbert, Walsh, or even Jordy. Or bring someone in like the Colts did with Jeff Saturday (such as Crean, Fife, or Dakich). It doesn't really matter who it is, as long as its not Woodson, and whoever it is knows that it is 2 month temporary job. Having said that, I still feel the announced retirement at the end of the season is the best route for all involved if announced now. But one of these two things needs to happen and happen before our next home game, or at the very least, before the Michigan home game. The one thing at this point that can't happen, is NOTHING. -

This is the point you're missing or simply not wanting to hear. We don't really care how Diebler will do long term. The example was what he did the remainder of the season that he took over. The team played better when he took over and the situation around the program changed for the better. Relating it to our situation, we are not necessarily wanting to remove Woodson to be better THIS season, but keeping him will only make it worse at this point. A change is what is needed now based on where the atmosphere around this program is now, is heading and has been heading long before this season even started. Everyone with any common sense, knows this should have happened at the end of last season but here we are. We don't expect the results to be the same as Diebler or even similar, but we want ANYTHING different than what we have now (firing) or at least a path to a new beginning (retirement announcement) to have hope that a brighter future is coming. A change would halt the abhorrent atmosphere that is currently taking place around the program and jump start the process of getting us to better days ahead. -

It would serve to make the university not look like fools/idiots, whatever you want to call it, by being booed at HOME and having the student section chanting Fire Woodson during games loudly! You can't lose the fans and last night, I saw it with my own eyes, that they lost the fans, they lost the students (saw students on the jumbotron giving thumbs down signs and covering the INDIANA on their chest because they are embarrassed), they literally lost the student section for the 2nd half of the game (they left). I have never started the game in Assembly Hall and then finished the game on my couch (live) until last night, and I live 45 minutes away from Bloomington. I was ashamed to be a Hoosier last night. I went to IU, I graduated from IU, I have been a fan since I was born. I was at IU when Knight was fired. I had Mike Davis as my teacher for a semester. I was in Assembly Hall, sandwiched between Fife and Newton when we beat Michigan State on Haston's 3 at the buzzer to win and stormed the court. I never missed a game, basketball or football while I attended school at IU. I am a season ticket holder in Football, Basketball, and Soccer. I also have shifted all of my donations directed to the Football program and away from this basketball program until Woodson is removed. A lot of people say that there isn't a conceivable reason you fire a coach mid-season and I would tend to agree except in the situation like this. You lose the fans and supporters, you have to make a change immediately. Making the change won't guarantee that the team plays better (although it could under an interim coach, albeit unlikely) but it shows the supporters of the program that their is accountability and standards that MUST be met at this program. It sets a precedent with the players of what is acceptable and what is not. Again, it alters the atmosphere so the players are not being booed off the floor because there is hope for the future of the program again. Or at the very least, announce a change WILL be made (a retirement at season end) so that brings the hope of brighter days ahead. Right now, its all doom and gloom and that has to be changed and changed immediately! -

It’s so bad that it wouldn’t shock me in the least if at Purdue, they skip the IU Sucks chant and start an “Extend Woodson” chant. -

Maybe Brad comes back as the General Manager for the Hoosiers (similar to the role that Purdue just hired someone for in football) and then Dusty or McCollum as the head coach??
