I’m not personally in agreement that the freshman should start and all play 30 minutes as many have suggested. There are several reasons why I feel that way but that’s for another conversation. The only question I have in all seriousness, is why Is Geronimo not getting more? He’s the only one you will hear me lobby for. I just don’t think it’s a secret on how to cripple this team. It’s obvious even. Double the post, dare them to shoot from the perimeter. Teams know that the deep ball is inconsistent for us. Take away Trace and at that point the only offense Indiana is left with is dribble penetration into a crowd. The sheer number of high ball screens vs. off-ball picks is a dead give away. That accounts for the large numbers of floaters we take. The only option is to force help through penetration. Is not a winning strategy for a team that struggles with what? Shooting free throws. Low post double from the weak side. A killer for Trace on any night but this time they doubled Race as well. To their credit, NW really clogged the paint. Reminded me of Juwan’s senior season. Absolutely no reason to defend a shooter. Any team that doesn’t double Trace from the weak side is making a huge mistake. When they didn’t, he scored. Yes, I really do like all our guys. It’s the first time since mid-way through the Crean era that I haven’t secretly hoped player A, or Player B, would transfer/graduate. They certainly don’t quit, which was a problem for the guys you listed. I’d say that I’m a realist. I don’t necessarily think the current roster will win any titles in the future, but I do think it’s a fantastic foundation from which to work from. It’s a solid core. Dubya. We will take it. Hard to say this after a win but, I’m on board with firing the staff. What I watched wasn’t tough kids refusing to lose. It was pure unadulterated luck and a kid that decided to hit free throws. There is no direction. No plan. It’s all iso and wing it. This cannot succeed long term. Doesn’t matter who plays.
