2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
newcastle12 replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just for the record, St Louis is going to spend 12 million on a roster next year. So unless we are going to spend big boy money, we aren't getting that much better. So maybe some of Woody's friends can quit crying and write some checks again. -
NIL is a complete mess. But it doesn't negate the need to build your program which takes more than two years.
-
Think of how much he could lecture everyone though.
-
Thank god for that.

Weird what happens when you don't let Purdue grab and hold. I wish Kaufmen-Ren well in the Israeli pro league. Stay safe out there there.

Transfer Portal w IU Interest

The funny thing about AI is that people say it "hallucinates" but it more seems that it just picks the quickest way to make you stop asking it the question, and thinks your too dumb to check it's facts. I mean it most cases it's right, but that's pretty scary when you have it pick bombing targets. -

Dominated the MAC. Elite Coach. Just ask him, or listen to his radio show if you can find it. -
Transfer Portal w IU Interest

What off the court? The fact that he tried to get two really high end assistant coaches last year? The fact he got on a plane early in the morning to make one final pitch to Wilkerson to get him from Kentucky? The fact he's at tons of these AAU tournaments this season? The fact that he stole a big recruiter from Louisville? -
It was not Golden's finest hour, what a complete collapse.

That's frankly most of what there is, so good. -
Assistant coaches

Drew Adams can't get fired soon enough. Worthless, and a POS in real life to boot. -
Can you be considered a Radio Personality when you get fired from your Radio gig, and have one now on a channel that listened to by so few people that it doesn't chart at all in the ratings? now to be fair, he gets about 3k bot views on Youtube on that Outkick sports grift.

Tom Crean burned in state and midwest recruiting when he forced out Mo Creek after his injury trouble. No decent AAU coach around here wanted to work with him again, and recruiting without the Midwest wasn't going to work and his rosters showed that. He also was a very average in game coach. So less talent, and mediocre coaching means he wasn't going to rise up again. The problem was hiring Archie instead of somebody higher up on the coaching ladder. You basically hoped to get lucky with a mid major coach twice in a row, effectively firing Crean for a less successful Crean, when the move would have been to bring in one of the interested big name coaches who yes, probably would have cheated, but who in the **** cares, it's college sports, there's always been cheating.

The program has to be rebuilt from scratch now, and we keep pretending it doesn't. We just don't have a direction. We either need to primarily recruit like Purdue (a mix heavy on local kids and 3-4 year players and occasional portal spots filled by upper clansmen) with a coach who's got a proven record of success at a lower level building that way or we need to spend top 3 in NIL and pay a lot to an experienced coach who's disgruntled but clearly still can go (Like Arkansas did with Calipari) We haven't had a plan since Sampson on what our direction needed to be and some boomers in the alumni base just thought they were too good for that and sabotaged it because of the sanctity of IU not "cheating" in college sports (can you imagine how dumb you sound pretending teams haven't been clearly cheating for decades)

Lewis a great on court coach, with questionable recruiting chops. So if the role we are replacing is the on court coach primarily, that's probably when you bring him in. That's not this year.

Have you watched him? He's a great athlete and gets to the rim when he wants. You think that wouldn't have helped this year? -
He's literally no different than what we have.

They had 7 million dollars last year, they got 10 or 11 this year. This year 5 of it came from Revenue share, which means there are sizeable donors who withheld NIL this year, they actually had LESS money if you adjust to the revenue share inflation. This is the home of the Kelly School, with the largest living alumni base. The money is there. So Steve Ferguson can suck it. His buddy sucked. He made us hire him. You don't get to pout and withhold money. -

We need to spend 20 million dollars. that's the plan. like the big boys do. Tell Ferguson to get over it. -
Which Rim Protector and length guy that could play at the Power 5 level was coming here in the first year of a complete over haul. You can't say "should have a got a guy like this" It was free agency. Who was the guy? And if he was that good why try here?

God what a sophie's choice that you have to choose between having Dorn/Miles/Sisley on the court in one spot in major minutes. Wish DD could pick which one would be better help each match up though. Seems to have picked wrong the last two months.
