In a perfect world Woodson is only back if everyone else tells you no. The way this season is finishing, the recruiting class coming in, 2025, they can't look themselves in the mirror and see that the program is going anywhere but a free fall into oblivion. There is literally zero momentum or anything to be excited about going into next year barring a late season run which is improbable. You are one correct hire away from turning the program around DAY 1 if they say yes.

The plan is always for your current HC to come back… until it’s not.

Is there any possibility (and I hate to even mention it with today’s world) that a large reason he could be brought back for a 4th year is because he is a program legend (who is also African American) to save face for potentional fall-out with legends of the past and Woodson claiming he didn’t get a fair shake after just 3 years?

If that is what needs to happen to prop up this bum then just cut the f’ng losses.

The “this is Indiana” and “it’s Indiana” are almost cringe level phrases these days.

And if that is their move then that is fine. They will just have to take a chance on May (which I would be happy with) or whoever else if they make a move. If Indiana is serious about returning to prominence then they’ll have to play the same game that the kings of college basketball are playing. And if Pearl is serious about Indiana the opportunity is there for the taking. I have a hard time believing that Tom Cream was squeaky clean. The way he “Creaned” players out of the program was dirty IMO. The things these guys got punished for were laughable reasons in this day and age of the game. The Big Ten sucks outside of Purdue and Indiana has a real chance to take a stranglehold of the conference landscape and challenge them for the foreseeable future.

I am surprised to still see some mentioning Brad Stevens name as a hopeful candidate. Brad has been out of the college game for over a decade now and out of coaching all together for the last 3 years. He also has 0 experience in the NIL world. The more time that goes on IMO he becomes less and less of a desirable candidate.

Typically you want your team playing its best ball in the last month of the season…. Mike Woodson is 14-19 after Feb 1 in his 3 years (including postseason)

Tony Bennett would be more open to leaving UVA now than say 3-4 years ago IMO. That’s a guy that I would have on my shortlist.

The problem is the fan base is so strong and supportive of the basketball program that I believe this all falls on deaf ears because no matter what, the Indiana faithful will always pack Assembly Hall. The University knows this.
