This is the biggest piece of intel so far, IMO. Thamel is much less likely to spin compared to Goodman. other posters are warming me up to DeVries. But my heart belongs to McCollum and I feel like he’s going to haunt us from Iowa for a decade.

Apparently Devries and the Iowa AD are out of the office today because they’re meeting in Iowa City for an interview. This is the chatter among Iowa and WV fans.

There is no real equivalent to Shams in college basketball so it’s hard to understand his role unless you follow the NBA. He (and before him, a guy named Woj) broke every major NBA story. Like, every single one. NBA fans don’t believe something is true until Shams says it. He’s not like a Goodman type—if Shams says it’s someone, it’s a done deal. If it’s going to be an NBA guy, Shams will be the source. When people wonder why stuff hasn’t leaked from the Celtics side, they’re talking about Shams. (Side note: Woj retired to become the GM at St. Bonaventure, where he’s an alum.)

The scary part is this fits Dolson’s MO. Tried to hire Fitzgerald and Matta, in both cases chasing mid / late career guys with “experience.” Cignetti was that too, but with upside. Brownell and Fitzgerald and a washed Matta all rhyme, IMO.

Can anyone give a clear summary of what Thamel said? Can’t find anything online or on Twitter. But he (not Osterman) has been Dolson’s go to source all along. If he said it’s definitely down to those three, then that kills the Brad buzz IMO.

Most non insiders are preparing for McCollum or Brownelll, based on reports from Goodman and Bozich. But many insiders still have intel that says it’s Brad Stevens and has been for weeks. It’s all maximally confusing and stressful lol

I think we understand the process—thanks for sharing. But can you give insight into the names? Is Brad Stevens still on the table? Did you ever hear of a verbal deal with him? What about McCollum?

Thanks for sharing all this. Any word on what changed? It’s so strange that so many people consistently had Brad for weeks, only to see it potentially fall apart now.

If Dolson did a trial balloon, he’s the one I’m worried about lol.
