  1. The big issue will be revenue sharing, which is something all athletic administrators are working to fully evaluate. Everything else is peripheral.
  2. I don’t, because they’re inapplicable. I realize you and Golf want Woody to be gone - I’m just trying to both tell you how that could happen, as well as that there’s little sentiment for it, if any.
  3. It’s probably also good that fans aren’t in that position, for the reasons you cite. Both tend to think they know much more about sports than they do. That chit is everywhere.
  4. I’ve been extremely clear that a lack of leadership has been our biggest issue. Is that not evident?
  5. Some in the discussion think this should be a linear journey, with a rigid, proscribed set of waypoints leading, without exception, to a logical and predictable conclusion. They want absolute predictability and aren’t happy that this isn’t available here. Life rarely works that way, and it does even less so in this space. I think it’s simple and am more than a little surprised that it’s been so difficult for some to grasp. As flawed as it is, I never have considered it difficult to understand or even appreciate. I mentioned earlier that I grew up in it, so maybe that’s it. If / when we move on from Woody, we would be crazy to not select someone with a demonstrated track record, in my opinion. To me, that’s where consensus will be at its best.
  6. Then you probably shouldn’t try to be an AD at a university. You wouldn’t like it and you likely wouldn’t last long.
  7. On his own without internal support? No.Which AD anywhere could?
  8. What is your experience in sports? As a player? As a coach? As an administrator? As a fan? How long have you been / were each of those things?
  9. I think they probably would, but I’m not sure how far that would go.
  10. Who said “they” question his qualifications? He’s the fourth of our last five ADs who had no experience before we hired him. “They” have been making leadership choices like that for years and then seem perpetually perplexed when our two major programs continue to founder.
  11. Not sure they’re “as important” but they certainly get their calls returned. It’s one of the ways we’re able to approach them to fund buyouts, among other things.
  12. Athletic Departments across college sports are full of similar dynamics. Eerily similar. I realize you don’t agree with it, but it’s an imbedded culture in so many places, whether you like or understand it or why it exists. If you’ve been an IU fan for any length of time, none of this should surprise you.
  13. Please stop making the mistake of conflating “explaining” and “defending”.
  14. Do you think he was qualified? Who else did we consider? What role did the BOT have in the selection process? What characteristics do you believe are most important for the ideal candidate?
  15. If he was credible, consensus would be easy to build and maintain. If he was experienced, wisdom would lead him to recognize the importance of those stakeholders in the hiring process. Others would never question his authority, and he would never take it for granted. That’s how leadership works. It’s a lot more than just being able to make the call.
  16. That’s a mischaracterization.
  17. No one would recommend hiring someone who fits that description. But building a consensus among key stakeholders is vital in a university setting. There are simply way too many mouths to feed. It’s that way in most corporate environments as well. The disconnect here centers on leadership.
  18. What did he do, in your opinion, that made him worthy of being hired?
  19. A qualified candidate would bristle at the notion, though he / she would understand the need to build a consensus around certain things like major program coaching hires and would intuitively understand why doing that is so vital.
  20. Qualified ones don’t and won’t need the permission you believe Dolson must ask for.
  21. The BOT hired the AD, who reports to the President? No.
  22. Like Fred Glass? Or Terry Clapacs? Or Clarence Doninger? That’s what I mean about not knowing what they don’t know.
  23. A few other things happened too. It wasn’t just the WL record.
  24. How about we hire a qualified AD before we turn him loose?
  25. Zero support to fire a coach one year removed from a Big 10 championship and Sweet 16 appearance. Was never going to happen.
