Posing a question in light of the money we apparently have at our disposal: how do we feel about 24-25 if the summer ends like this PG: Proven 15+ ppg P5 transfer SG: Proven P5 40ish percent from 3 SF: Galloway PF: Reneau/Mgbako C: 5* Rim Protector/Reneau Bench: guard transfer, leal, cupps, sparks Are we excited? Still pissed? Indifferent? I know there is a lot of vitriol currently, but maybe we have to consider the massive NIL contributions as a Woody-specific benefit that could outweigh some of his admittedly glaring issues. I doubt they would throw a blank check if we made a change this year. Just trying to talk myself into being excited this summer and next year. I feel defeated already lol

Just curious, did we even spend all of our money this year? I feel like Ware is a higher 6 figure player as well as Malik and Mgbako. But going down the list I just don’t see many players commanding high dollar amounts on our current roster. Is there an expectation that most of this money will go into portal studs? (Hopefully of course)

I want to once again clarify that I was riding the Fire Coach Woodson train and bought all the chatter that our team hated Woody and we would sputter out the rest of the season… But man is a hit dog gonna holler. Let’s not act like we were all respectfully disappointed. We were feasting on rumors that suggest our coach is the worst and our players don’t care. Several were openly advocating they hoped we would lose every game. How dare someone win a few games playing their best basketball and then publicly let you know that they saw those things you were saying and didn’t appreciate them. I am heartened by yesterday’s speech. It tells me that even though we will have a coach we don’t think is the right guy for next season, at least he’s got a locker room of guys that love him and maybe the doom and gloom was a bit exaggerated. Here’s to hoping we can watch some decent hoops next year while we wait for our next great coach to arrive!

I wanted to start some discourse not located in the thread we have all voiced our grievances, as it seems that ship will not sail for at least another year. Instead of bickering let’s start looking ahead, for better or worse. With Trey and Anthony announcing they are back, and lots of happy cheering faces on the bench throughout, I tend to believe we may get our important pieces back despite the fear of mass exodus (obviously up for debate). With another borderline lottery pick and a Bahamas trip to sell in the portal this year, let’s talk about certain players, staff changes, and portal needs instead of hand wringing about something that a lot of us were admittedly hoping for.

I am with you my friend. It is not a good feeling to be dead in the water from a tournament standpoint despite winning four in a row. Only hoping cooler heads prevail and folks can find a way to take some joy from our boys maybe ripping off a few more wins before the 6 month dark times rather than just being angry with our lot. Taking solace that if we had scheduled more trash games (or won the ones we had) and won them by 20 each we would be sitting pretty like MSU with the same record and resume.

Oooh good catch, that is my mistake. My rose colored glasses are getting too fogged lol. But still my point stands, I’m sure it is frustrating to hear people calling for your head loudly and telling you what a terrible job you’re doing so I don’t bristle at all when he says calm down we’re not dead yet.

Fair enough, but we’ve gone .500 or better three times in the last eight years. All three are from Mike Woodson. I don’t think he was beating his chest. I think he was saying exactly what Leal said. Chill out. It’s not where any of us want to be but we’ve now gone .500 or better for three seasons in a row for the first time dating back to…. 2005-2008. Seriously. I am choosing to view this as him being fiery and not giving up. Much rather that than have him tuck tail like a whipped dog when there is still basketball left to play this year.

I agree in general, but the fans he’s going after have sailed away I think. I still totally think he hasn’t done enough to be so haughty but the only way he’s going to win a lot of these people back is by kicking @$$ and winning. If it’s win or go home next year, maybe his mindset is that he’s going to go out swinging. Being one who has called for his job on here, I honestly took it on the chin and said hope he proves me right and runs the BTT. For me it was nice to know the fire has not gone out for this team just yet and we may see some fun, mean, gritty, hopefully winning basketball this week.

Personally, I think some people are getting butthurt where they don’t need to be offended. I don’t care what your job is, if there is a group of people shouting that you suck and deserve to be fired and then you rip off four unexpected successes in a row (meaningless in the big picture, but still) I can imagine there is a strong desire to tell those folks “get the hell off my back”. And for all the damnation about the culture and locker room exodus coming, I take it as a positive that his guys publicly went to bat for him. Think we need to consider it is a human reaction to get a little bit chippy when someone is at your neck and you prove them wrong, even if temporarily. to be clear I still think moving on is right, but this is being taken way too personally imo.

Would be a little wild based on our recruiting discourse lately if we went and snagged Elmarko Jackson and Xavier Booker back, just a year later. Maybe the plan will be to lightly recruit really good high school guys but only in order to get them after they transfer one year later as seasoned collegiate athletes

Would love if Bruce Thornton is available but I am sure he will be OSU new coach’s priority number one the second he walks in. Hopefully that doesn’t matter because we drop a bag lol

This is perfect for this thread. Would love to have a more targeted discussion on IU outlook including transfer stuff in addition to the transfer portal thread. It gets a little crowded in that thread with entries that will never matter to IU so I appreciate this!

I know there’s a lot of angst tonight and I am with you guys to an extent. I want Woodson gone and agree that another year, even if mildly successful, sets us back. However regarding the donor talk and fans being bothered by the comments: I think the big donors who support the current direction probably feel validated by the comments tonight being directed at “true fans” and thus are unlikely to cease support. On the contrary, they may even feel this is a personal shout out or thank you to them for their continued support. Sure they may lose some donations from disgruntled fans, but will it matter if those big names we discuss in this thread have already pledged multiple millions more to “right the ship”?

“Best” case depth to start the portal: Guards: Galloway, Cupps, Leal, Newton? Forwards: Mgbako, Reneau C: Sparks OUT: Gunn, Banks That leaves 5-6 spots that we need to fill with quality. Tons of production to replace from Ware but think we can improve on X without much difficulty if we have the money supposedly ready to go. Big concern would be where we find athletic playmakers on the wings and how we figure out playing Mgbako at the 4 without forcing Reneau to be a 5.

Eric the Hysteric being behind the Scooby Doo mask is certainly a take. I find it hard to believe Rabjohns would mortgage years of mostly responsible journalism and access to IU because Eric the Hysteric is ready to move on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is nothing worse than seeing 100 new posts and sitting down for some good info only to see someone chasing their tail for 3 hours Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

His take will be negative and ridiculous no matter who takes the job, but can you imagine the Dan Dakich takes if we hired a guy who’s been attached to scandal before. His head would explode Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know man, just pointing out that you’ve repeated the same thing over and over anytime a new promising idea comes up. All love, just messing with you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just curious, do you think Quinn is pulling the strings here? Do you think he is terrible? How ugly do you think it will get if we keep Woodson? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just wish the timeline would line up for us where the right guy was the right age with the right pedigree. Any examples of this elsewhere where a job opens up and the perfect guy for that place is also available? Obviously there have been lots of good hires in hindsight but a hypothetical would be like Dusty is coming off a few really good years at a high major right when the IU job comes available? I’m pretty torn on Pearl. There is no doubt he’s a winner and we’d be great. But probably only for a few years until he’s 70 and ready to retire. We are dying for stability. I wish we could CGI De-age him a couple years like Harrison Ford. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I totally get the frustration of our team being bad and having a coaching dilemma, but just continually spouting variations of the same sentence all day every day must be exhausting. It doesn’t matter what is being discussed you can just bank on “oh yeah we are horrible, Quinn is doing this to us, woody will be back and it’ll be ugly” under each new message lol. The guy is correct at like a 95% clip and way ahead of everyone else since he surfaced. very clearly the most plugged in person in the industry right now. *says something that doesn’t fit your narrative* “Wellllllll that’s not exactly it, and also he’s not that great anymore just watch” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reading it all back to back when you’ve been away for a while is an experience. It’s a bit, or there is a certain goateed coach hiding under the mask like a scooby doo villain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think what we’re all confused about is the logic behind this? They have put up a few stinkers but they have by far better wins than us this year and played Illinois about like we did at a neutral court. If you supplement our current roster with a few objectively great guards they have, why would they not win? The numbers, analytics, and eye test say you are wrong but we all know there can be no compromise in your thinking. I’ll hang up and listen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
