One comforting thought about Devries: if we are indeed down the list and in a scramble to grab him now that his season is over, I feel supremely confident that if we want him, we will get him over WVU and Iowa. And he’s a great “last resort” who would have us winning sooner rather than later. The alternative is that Scott has someone better already and we are in great shape. Either of these outcomes would be a fantastic place to be sitting in any coaching search, at any time, bar none. So to summarize, we’re sitting pretty.

I have a very strong inclination that Goodman knows something. He is the person who is pushing a “mystery candidate” and he has been very coy about discussing the Indiana job on his shows. I think he is aware there is something bigger going on but is not going to break it until it’s time.

Well, I think the insinuation here would be that the person in question is not currently coaching and would be free to sign on his own timeline.

Also this account typically is very good about clarifying how many sources and the quality of those sources. They say this one is “unimpeachable”. If this person has heard it is contracted already, that would make me very excited.

The tweet from Coaching Changes (who are super plugged in and usually have stuff early) says that they have heard it is contracted. Meaning it’s already signed and done and the daughter stuff is not an issue if it’s Brad.

As much as I don’t love Dakich I realllly liked that McCollum interview man. That guy sounds like he just gets it from a program building standpoint and his X’s and O’s have been discussed plenty. I think we would be pretty good year 1 and then mostly upward trajectory from there as he installed his culture.

I agree that this is bad form by Rabjohns but it is going to be awkward when Tucker almost certainly goes in the portal within the week lol

I think we do everything we can to get McCollum. The floor has to be a good basketball coach. If he is not able to recruit at a super high level that would be an anomaly at IU, especially with a monster payroll. Even if he can’t…I’m ready to play hard, smart basketball and I think that will produce what we are hoping for over the last few years. Looking around college basketball, it’s really not that hard to win 20 freaking games a year.

It would be really surprising if Dolson wasn’t able to take the temperature on someone like Brownell and made that hire. I mean there is literally no one out there touting him as a good coach, no one looking at him for other jobs, and anytime his name is mentioned anywhere, it’s met with disgust. Would be incredibly tone deaf.

The psy-op worked on me. Because of the Brownell threat I am now thrilled about this possibility.

No shade, just seems a bit misleading and doesn’t inspire confidence that anything happened if there are still a bunch of names floating around. If there’s a crowd outside the Vatican and white smoke billows out but then they don’t actually know who it is, there’d probably be some confusion from the masses.

You sent a gif this morning with white smoke, which is generally accepted to be an indication that the pope has been chosen. so it would just seem a little backwards to say that you’re hearing other names now?

I would agree that I think it’s unlikely Scott is doing much in the way of intentional diversion. I think his secrecy is causing every piece of information from the outside parties to be blown out of proportion, into a “smokescreen” of sorts, further obscuring whatever the heck is actually happening. i would bet that very few of these “smokescreens” are coming from IU side.

Although Jeff Goodman is not our favorite person, he said something very interesting last night. He is typically not someone to withhold a name or information as we all know. If he is able to say who it is, he will. Last night: ”For the IU job, my sources say it’s Ben McCollum, then Brownell, and then there’s a third candidate.” Seemed super strange that he didn’t offer a name or information on that third name, and Dauster didn’t push him on it. To me, it seems like he knows there is another person on the table and has shared it with Dauster but isn’t ready to put it out there for whatever reason. Just a little out of character for Goodman, and you would expect Dauster to question who the third name is since that was the context of the conversation.

How many potential bid stealers do you see as we get late in the game? I can’t see any left from the power conferences, who would be the ones you’d worry about from the 1-2 bid leagues?

I agree and the skeptic in me doesn’t want to believe…. BUT Even if this guy goes to Nashville a lot, @Chris007 corroborated that this was the plane to watch as early as noon today, well before anyone knew Brad would be in Nashville, and probably well before this flight plan was even logged.

Totally fair, but if someone knew this morning to “watch this plane” and it ends up going to Nashville, where we later learn Brad is conveniently located for the night… it’s enough for me Dangit! We Ride!

Thats pretty dang compelling. Was it publicly known that Brad was going to be at the SEC tournament or did that just come out when he was spotted there this evening? I think if we’ve got people on the IU side who have advance notice of specific planes that will be traveling to a locale that is not an obvious place (Bloomington, Bedford, Florida) where Brad just happens to be…something has to be up.
