It makes more sense to reach for guys like this now because with NIL you don’t have to worry as much about the step up in recruiting. Interesting candidate. IU won’t have trouble pulling lower division guys if that’s the route they decide to go.

Same. Something came up for work. I could’ve moved it but I didn’t bother. Heard some of the game on the radio and saw a few possessions at lunch. I’m close to where I was at the end of Crean/Archie where I rarely watched. -

College fans are going to learn what NBA fans do in free agency. Bad teams have lots of mediocre players who put up points. I am not saying that is Carlyle necessarily but the fit here is rough. Whatever he was doing to score points at Stanford isn’t translating over. -

But more importantly they have a new coach while we have the guy who played Kenny Payne close last year -
I think so…they still have to save face. They used up a lot of goodwill last year bouncing fsu in favor of Alabama. And then two (current) big ten teams sent both sec teams home. They’d look silly this year shafting the big ten and we have four solid teams. There’s no reason to shaft IU for some like SMU.
-
They literally just mean the SEC here. Period. IU is 99% in. (Assuming a Purdue win). I guess we could come up with scenarios but they’d all have to hit. Even an A&M SEC title —less than a 20% chance by itself—would need to find wacky scenarios that are just unlikely to happen. An ACC team will drop. It’s why I was adamant you want feel good pretenders like Army out. If they keep a two loss team in over IU it would be big names like Miami (maybe), ND, or Texas. People were dismissive when I wrote that Saturday but this really just about espn, sec, and tv ratings. Luckily this year nobody is really good enough that the committee will feel like embarrassing themselves to jump up a power team that doesn’t deserve it, imo. Indiana is in almost any way you slice it. (One caveat might be if rourke goes down…*knock on wood*)
-
But it’s gonna drop again by a bit after we play Purdue, so I don’t know why any IU fans worry about it either. We had a fortuitous schedule, but we’re still good.
-
I’d pass on OSU again. But I agree. Down year at the top and we can play with any of the teams in the first round.
-
Also, I’m enjoying IU fans first real foray into watching the committee…lol. It’s all performative. Technically so is the basketball one but it is less consequential since 68 is an absurd amount of teams.
-
That’s right. They’re penalizing Indiana because they don’t like their profile, which I said this past weekend. But we’re still gonna jump an acc team and a sec team could lose too. We’re in pretty easily at this point.
-
They have to be talented because they aren’t going to win any games with coaching. Their offense is painful outside of the individual performances.
-
Definitely not as talented but still talented enough to be top 5ish. Honestly, one of the things that impressed me about mcneely was how little they get him the ball and he still contributes. I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes and they start to look for him more.

I don’t love the Galloway, Tucker, mbako , Goode, (center) lineup. Average to poor 3 pt shooting at two perimeter spots. One ball handler on the floor. Otherwise I agree with your thesis. An 8 man rotation is tough to screw up with this squad. -
I haven’t been in this thread for a couple days so forgive me, but did anyone explain how the heck that guy got to Grace?
-
Now that would be a nightmare scenario because us losing to Oregon in the big champ game would bounce us. But absent that I think we’re in. The committee may shaft us on the ranking though

I knew it was over after the first drive of the second half. When the protection wasn’t fixed we were done no matter what. Honestly I felt we wouldn’t recover from that 3rd and 35 we gave up but the D hung tough. You can’t survive things like that on the road. The good news is: I think every problem we had today was mental. Physically we competed. That bodes well for the playoffs, imo -
If Bama goes down I’m thinking IU is in barring no unthinkable stumble next week. Crazy

IU 79 UL 75 -
I would take IU at even odds with any of the SEC teams not named Georgia and maybe Texas. I just don’t think the committee would feel that way.

They’re terrible and look like Canadian tuxedos. It reminds me of when Kentucky had those denim looking basketball uniforms in the 90s/00s

No. If we were discussing a 4 team playoff we wouldn’t be discussing IU at all. I am not sure what is messing people up here. 4, 12, 64….it doesn’t matter. I’m talking about comparing teams to IU for one of the last at large spots. -
PSU with the ballsyiest play I’ve ever seen. They deserve to win

3. Psu loses they are out.

Lol…I have some bad news for you. If you can talk yourself into Florida State being left out last year but not IU this year, you’re a better man than me. Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to it. but they will definitely leave iu out for a big name team with one more loss…just like FSU last year. this minny game is so close right now…. -

Disagree with that. IMO this is about TV and the ongoing realignment. They’ll think hard about letting the SEC and B1G look like they dominate everything unless it’s obvious. In the scenario where ND loses a close one to Army who gets in and beats up on USC. They’ll by far have the best win vs IU especially if AM gets in or finishes with only 3 losses. They’re also a bigger tv draw. And they allow the committee to not give the B1G 4 teams. They love the perception of being fair while acquiescing to the SEC. Look at what happened to FSU last year and they’re a big name. I’m not saying IU wouldn’t get in over ND in that scenario but I would be nervous. Similarly with Boise. They played the #1 team to the wire. We just got stomped by the #2. 2 loss power teams and one loss Cinderella are our competition now. Like to see them all go down. ESPN runs the thing and they are with the SEC. They’ll take small opportunities to sleight their competition...which is basically the big ten at this point. Worries me for IU a little if things don’t shake out right. Ole miss going down today was huge though. Likely enough.
