lol…I can’t see it. Purdue beat Alabama handily. MSU, Illinois and UM could all make the S16. I don’t see anyone going much further due to the talent issue you highlight. B1G will look meager coming out of Week 1 and probably nonexistent going into the second weekend.

All programs have these types of people around. IU’s are just idiots. Knight had such complete control of the program that when he was fired it created a power vacuum that has never shaken out in any meaningful way to allow a few competent stewards to oversee the program. Brand, Glass, Gonzo, Fuergeson, Buckner, et al…they all have the basketball sense of a 25lb dumbbell. Some people seemed convinced Dolson is that guy and the timing is right for him to assume nearly complete control. I hope that’s true. Given our history I will continue to take a wait and see posture.

Not the same people, per se, but funded or organized by the same source. Social media (including message boards) are the dominant form of communication today. No major organization is going to let that go unchecked.

This has been a good game. Lot of similarities between Izzo and Underwood. I bet they hate each other.

Who are the B1G teams solidly in? UM, PU, Illini, MSU…. Do Oregon, ucla, and Wisconsin count?
  10. I think the bigger problem was getting the ball out of Thorntons hands. But either way, I hope the Deibler elf signed a nice long extension.

Of course. But it is a testament to social media and our own little bubble we live in that this thread had many of us convinced that if only IU dropped the next couple games Woody would be gone forever and tier-1 coaches would be fighting for the job. I’m sure it was most likely always going to play out to the end. Dolson has all the data he needs to make a decision. And if it doesn’t happen…welp, that’s IU for ya. (please tho…fire mike Woodson).

Sure. I’m just pushing back on the idea that it is any sort of indication of interest. Both in actions and words, IU was told to take a hike. The idea that Steven’s covets the job is just idle speculation and message board gossip. It could be true. Hell, I hope it’s true. But nobody outside of us (diehard IU fans) looks at the situation and concludes Steven’s is just dying to get to IU. (ok, I’m putt my realism hat back in the closet, putting back on my IU hat and impatiently waiting of more news of the return of the prodigal son :)

I stated earlier I believe that. But whoever was feeding him the story wanted it out that Steven’s had no interest. Could’ve been Steven’s camp or the Celtics front office.

That’s doesn’t sound good for IU. He literally says IU was prepared to—not did—make Stevens a $70mil offer. And it says “[Stevens] did not entertain it,” and “it does make sense” to leave the Celtics for a college job. Woj is a notorious mouthpiece for NBA agents and front offices. Whomever he got his info for this story wanted the message to be that Stevens clearly had no interest.

Coaches, or their agents, engage in this type of thing all the time to increase leverage at their current job. Nick Saban engaged with Texas and got an offer just to shove it in Alabama’s face because he was upset with some reporters and fans who thought they underachieved one season. This was after he’d won multiple titles. IU getting all excited like Tommy Boy in the diner scene after a routine overture , would be the most IU thing ever. Par for the course.

I’ve never put this on the board before, but I have my own source who basically confirmed, in real time, that lots of the IU inner circle (ie high level donors, trustees, etc…) earnestly believed IU was getting Stevens. It became the worst kept secret in Indy for a day or so. This person is not an IU fan, is not a message board person and is not prone to silly gossip or hysteria. So I believe IU thought they had it in the bag. I don’t believe Stevens was anywhere close. And the fact that IU was so bamboozeled just makes me think IU is that incompetent, not that Stevens was all that interested. Just my 2 cents, that’s probably worse less than that.

How exactly does one get a commitable offer, leading IU to believe he’s theirs, and still have time to go home and get outvoted by his family? That’s a weird timeline. And even is his kids are gone, he’s still at 1-1 tie with his wife.
