They likely are praying he stays. IU’s disaster in recruiting the last twenty years is crazy and helped many a coaches outside Indiana. And Woody is as bad as any of them. Matta and Beilen specifically have title game appearances off the backs of stud Indiana players. Bennett too. Izzo, K, and Roy have had good team’s (can’t reminder those specific ones made a FF) with stud Indiana recruits. That’s not even counting the ones who went to instate programs under Painter, Brey, etc.. It’s not realistic that IU would’ve got all those guys with a Stevens or somebody similar at the helm, but getting even our fair share would’ve taken some shine off a few resumes. I’m sure there are a few coaches out there who can see the writing on the wall if IU gets a good coach. Dusty May can probably do the math because I’m sure he has his eye on at least northern Indiana, as UM has successfully recruited there the last 25 years.

I alluded to this on a pure guess in the game thread. All those numbers suck except the last def numbers. Ironically people want us to go small to score but it’s the only way we can defend. Woodys offense is not good but defense is a much larger issue. I’ll scream this to my grave.

I don’t know enough about knights early recruiting days, but he tended to bring in plenty of talent. I remember reading about him attending Damon Baileys games. After that it seemed to drop off but he still did go to games.

I’ll be shocked if we do. Going 1-1 on a B1G road swing is pretty par for the course. In a week where Painter lost at home to OSU and May lost to Minny, I’m sure Woodys supporters are convinced and selling the idea that we are back on track. It’ll take a bad loss to Maryland to get people fired back up again. Either way, IU isn’t the type of place to make a bold midseason move. When they moved on Davis it had already been about two seasons of the rank and file being fed up with him. And he still coached the rest of the season.

The irony being most people attributed Knight’s late 90s swoon on spending too much time hunting and fishing and delegating recruiting to assistants.

We’re Indiana. After we spend 750k on a search firm we’ll have our pick of warmed over leftovers. We could have Chris Mack, or Brownell or maybe even an Archie Miller. Championships right around the corner next year.

Ballo and Goode (maybe Leal) really only guys who give consistent effort and production through this tough spell. It should probably be no surprise they come from winning programs. The rest of the guys are conditioned to lose. Indiana is such a thoroughly mediocre, or worse, program I can’t believe we still have a large fan base.
