Nice job by Kelsey rebuilding a brutal situation, but when comparing CDD I think Kelsey is closer to the floor of what you would expect. I think you look to guys like May and Pope for the higher end of the range of what to expect. Either way, if he falls in that range year 1, 99% of the fan base will be ecstatic. And you really don’t have to hit a grand slam in portal to just field a tourney team with IUs budget. Personally, if he wants aim a little lower and get guys with more than 1 yr of eligibility so he can hit the ground running in year 2, I would fully understand that. It will be the first year of building a team without his son in a long time and may look different than his past teams.

Or the new Duke Blue Devils. Doubt our fans would complain if we rolled either team out next year although I would prefer to be Duke in that scenario.

I’m pretty sure when Bailey committed you said CDD could take a bunch of talented offensive guys and teach them to defend. Now he’s gonna take a bunch of bad offensive players and have them on the floor beating up peoples mommas? lol…I’m pretty sure nobody knows what CDD wants until we see it next year on the floor. He may not even know. If he’s adaptable he might just fill out the roster with as much talent as he can and coach them to their strengths. Sounds like at a minimum we need scoring punch on the perimeter and athleticism in the post. If we get to the end of the month and haven’t added that, everyone can panic.

That is the basic point that everyone agrees on but a select few posters. Not everyone wants a promotion or new title or the spotlight. But IU and other schools have proven that the big names with money have the ability to pull guys out of other P5 jobs. As far as this thread goes, I really don’t care who CDD brings in, mostly because I know little about these guys. This is one area where the coach should get whoever he wants to spend long hours with and not worry about optics or fans. Go hire a bunch of D3 or HS coaches if he thinks they’ll help him win.

He would be in the “good riddance, no thoughts given “ category for me if not for the fact that on every IU message board there is a subset of folks who believe that if only IU were dumb enough to try and lower themselves to join Sampson in his dip-s##t-ness we would somehow have ascended back to the top of the college basketball world. Those people annoy me. And I have little good to say about IU’s administration over the last 25 years. If you want to be critical of IU it should be for ever hiring him while on probation at the expense of other qualified candidates. And while Sampson is a good coach, he has serious flaws. I enjoy pointing those out to the IU fans who have convinced themselves that they would’ve enjoyed watching Sampson’s version of the Orlando-1 offense the last 20 years if only IU would’ve covered up some phone calls and Kelvin could’ve sprung Bud Mackey from a Kentucky jail.

Same reason CDD left WVU who should’ve made the tourney and could’ve been in the S16.

I’m not saying we should expect it. But there’s nothing preventing it. It’s not like the old days where you had to hope the old coach left so guys you could coach up, maybe get a juco transfer, and then start recruiting HS juniors so you could break out in year 3 or 4. If CDD does a good job and can coach with our resources we’ll have a good team next year. If he gets a little lucky too, we could have a FF caliber team.

Trying to draw lines between Clemson, WVU, and TT with regards to IU pulling coaches, assistants at that, is just self loathing. Anyone that can be pulled out of WVU or Clemson can be pulled out of TT. If it doesn’t happen it isn’t on IU, the AD or for fans.

That sounds like something dumb enough to be said by Kelvin Sampson. IU trusted Sampson to do something very simple : abide by the very plainly stated terms of his contract which included not violating the probation he was on. But he was such a small-time nervous loser he couldn’t even be trusted to do that. Kind of like how his players can’t trust him to draw up a coherent offensive play at the end of a big game. I wouldn’t trust Kelvin Sampson’s opinion in matters of trust. I do trust CDD to do something very simple and bring in assistants who can do the same.

Not when you look at the sideline and seeing Kelvin Sampson! Such a shame…

We’re discussing a player, not staffs. there are a bunch of players who weren’t good shooters who had one good season. Including our own Trey Galloway. But you’re not interested in seeing that because you just engage in rah rah feel good platitudes instead of actual discussion.

Shocked they didn’t pay their bets…lol. The main problem I see with Enricht is his FT shooting. Makes him unplayable at the end of games. Complain about Rice and Mbako all you want—and I have plenty—but those guys won us a couple games with their FT shooting that would’ve been lost if left to Leal and Galloway. Michigan was in a bunch of tight games largely because Wolf and Gayle were awful ft shooters. Duke is the opposite. So if we’re getting the guy as a rotation piece, then I say great. If the plan is to have him be the primary ball handler and close games, I think there are some red flags in his shooting numbers.
