Goodman explicitly said he talked to Oltzelberger and a job like IU is a nonstarter because he doesn’t want to be in a fishbowl. I don’t take much what Goodman says as fact but he sounded pretty concrete in this one.

Luckily for Steven’s his contract renewal comes up at the same time the IU job is open again. He can use it as leverage to get a nice new deal and IU can walk away thinking they were this close again.

You can see my further thoughts on the matter in the fire woody thread but for all intents and purposes they are similar enough to what Demo just laid out that you’ll get the idea by just referencing those. IU’s basketball culture is in the toilet. It needs rebuilt from the ground up. If Beard comes and establishes a culture, from the coach down through the players, of accountability, hard work, and wining it will go a long way towards unifying everyone. But with a guy like Beard it’ll take a while for a lot of people to believe that he can build something that can’t immediately be flushed down the toilet with one mistake.

1) Assuming he’s hired this year: begin and end his successful career at IU without incident. in the alternative: 2) Spend another 5 years or so where he is at meaningfully rehabilitating himself and again, have zero incidents. Absent that he’s always going to be seen by some, myself included, as a ticking time bomb waiting to embarrass and/or destroy the program. You and others are, of course, free to embrace him immediately and wholeheartedly.

That would signal to me that he is actually leaving now. Otherwise, they could just agree in principle and announce he’s retiring at the end of the year and move on. The other possibility is that Woodson is being really difficult behind the scenes. I know everybody wants us to move fast, but Dolson probably has to sew up every last thread of support to make sure there isn’t a giant rift among the VIP crowd when Woody is gone. You don’t want one of Quinn or Woody’s buddies to get their feelings hurt because they weren’t consulted and then pull six figures worth of NIL funding.

He will just skip it like he does half the time anyways.
