How do you get that from this half of basketball? Painter is doing what everyone on this board killed woody for—obsessively dumping it into the post and have his players get a bunch of midrange shots.

Michigan cannot get off the defensive end. Probably 8 second chances for Purdue already.

Josh Pastner openly lobbying for the job on Peacock pregame. Might as well add him to the list -

It was back in the day when he was on Rivals. I didn’t follow him over to his new site and the old one kind of died. It’s still there but not the same from what I recall. Haven’t stopped in forever. Maybe his new board is just as crazy, idk. I think some of the wilder posters didn’t follow him over tho. -

Auburn had some similar results in the 80s and 90s. He’s got them rolling now and that’s a testament to his coaching ability, but his last 3 tourney exits were in the rounds of 64, 32, and 32. He’ll be 65 next year which would give him a pretty small window to do a bunch of things he’s never done before. I don’t really see what makes him a homerun over some of the other coaches discussed. High floor/low ceiling candidate to me. -

Mark Few has been reported on about a hundred jobs over the years. Yet he never moves. Out of all the names thrown around, I probably believe that one the least. -

Indiana isn’t in the market of hiring a great coach. Great coaches rarely move. Indiana’s in the market of hiring a coach who can be great at IU. -

You can argue anything, but negotiation is about leverage. Dusty has two high profile schools with open offers to him so he held most of the leverage. -

You guys are confusing two different things. In these contracts there are two clauses on separation. 1. “The buy out” is what the coach or another party would owe the university of Michigan if the coach left for another job. The coach always wants this to be as low as possible and the university wants it as high as possible. and, 2. The guaranteed portion of the contract due to the coach if he’s fired. The university always wants this as low as possible and the coach wants it as high as possible. When people talk about Dusty’s low buyout, they’re talking about scenario 1. I have no idea if any of it is true but that’s how it generally works. -
Potential Coaches Approval Rating (Poll Closes Thursday at Midnight)
str8baller replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I disagree with your guys’ thesis. I actually think very few coaches will succeed here. IU has a ton of upside but the job is also harder. Above average success at another place isn’t a guarantee, or anything close, that one will improve upon that with IUs resources. To wit, Archie Miller would have fared really well in this poll 8 years ago. Most of the guys on this poll would fail here for similar reasons—they have a fatal flaw or two that won’t hold up under scrutiny in a job like IU. -

Funny thing is, the amount we’re going to pay Dusty now is going to be about triple what it would’ve been if we had hired him last year. Bad decisions have consequences. -

That makes more sense. It is Tuesday. Either way, I don’t hold out much hope for young Mr Rivers if he announces anything like he plays. -

BTN is just a mess. They have to actively be trying to get bad announcers at this point. -

Confirms my impressions of both Cronin and Otz. Very challenged on the offensive side of the ball, at times. I’m not nearly as high on them as others. -

About a week ago I offhandedly and sarcastically suggested in the FireWoody thread that we’d strike out on everybody and end up with Buzz. I think I might’ve been the first and this whole thing has snow balled from there. As patient 0, I just want to say: stop. It’s not funny anymore. -

He would probably bring his team over, hit the ground running, and be more likely to make a FF in the next 3-4 years than half the names thrown around in this search. -

Why not? They just want to win. Some of you guys act like if you’re not watching the tv with the energy of a methed-out lab monkey banging a keyboard, it isn’t really basketball. Wisconsin, Villanova, and Virginia fans got to watch plenty of wins, conf titles, FFs and championships the last decade-plus while IU has been mostly having circular conversations about coaching searches. -

We need a coaching hot board updated daily based on results. For example: -Bruce Pearl - goes to the bottom of the list after an embarrassing home loss. OTOH… -Brad Brownell - catapults into the top 3 after beating Duke -Chris Beard - stays in the “maybe” pile after barely squeaking by an average LSU squad. It’s the only way we’ll get this hire right. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

That comment wasn’t really aimed at you. I just find picking through the smoldering wreckage of both their basketball careers to be a bit of an exercise in futility. We can all now be happy to be free of both. -

Woodson went to two tournaments going 2-2. That’s miles better than anything lil’ Archie did. Woody is currently 3-4 against Purdue teams that were better than the Purdue teams Archie went 0-fer against. I’m shocked to find Archie defenders are still around. -
