Doesn’t mean they’ll lay down and die. People with billions typically don’t. Also this all presumes the story we’ve been sold about Dolson vs Quinn B is true. It could all be fiction just like anything else on a message board. -

Quinn’s hardly the only problem. It’s obviously systemic. -

If you want a shot at May the earlier Stevens is out of the picture, the better. May isn’t going to wait around until mid April to play footsie with IU. -

Hey, look at it this way. We’re all on the opposite side of Bozich, Goodman, and the rest of the basketball media clowns. They’re often wrong. There’s worse sides to be on in a time of crisis. Brad Stevens or bust!!! -

They always do. That’s why you never get a slate of top candidates. You get one. and make your move. After you’ve been rejected, the stench of failure is on you. It’s open season for agents to string you a long to get raises for their clients until you finally settle for a mid major guy. Look at uk and UL last year -

You guys are hilarious. This is definitely one of the most manic coach search threads I can remember. I’m thoroughly enjoying it. -

Has a new coach ever been announced before, or even leaked to the press, while the current team has the old, non-interim coach still employed? I think you guys are going to stay disappointed for a little while…lol -

Here’s the problem with May now: He is doing great. UM wants to redo his contract, no doubt in part because IU has an opening. May and his agent probably realize they are #2 on IUs list at best. They also know that the minute somebody else takes the IU job his leverage on this new deal with UM decreases quite a bit. So Mays agent is going to be pushing hard for them to get this new deal done before the IU job is filled. I’m sure he’d like to wait and see if the IU job slips to him, but he also risks quite a bit of leverage (ie money) if he doesn’t hammer it out before the end of the season and IU announces Stevens or whomever. Just a stone cold guess, but I would say there’s only a 50% chance Mays agent doesn’t get this new deal done—thus taking him off the market—before IU is ready to make a hire. -

So the pictures from the bookstore floating around the internet the other day were true. Those are godawful. I’d say fire whatever intern designed those but that would be an insult interns. They look like computer generated jerseys on some generic basketball video game where they were too poor to get the licensing for actual team jerseys. -

Everybody needs that, tbf. Being desperate doesn’t confer any special status. We’re in this position because of past failures, and we’ll get what we get. Thank god for NIL or this job would be nearly untouchable coming off the Archie/Woodson era with their roster building. I hope we get somebody good, but honestly we’re so backwards we don’t deserve it. Woody was cooked last year. May was literally right there, ours for the taking, last year. But the “everybody gets 4 yr / he’s an alum” crowd—both in the administration and fan base—led to a situation where IU has no agency to do the right thing and instead puts us in this position to feel like we have to pull off the impossible to salvage the program. -

This has been about 40 pages of pining for Brad Stevens. This is one starved fanbase. I hope people aren’t sleeping on Dusty May. What he’s doing up in Ann Arbor is pretty impressive. Most schools in our position might not even get a top choice with that kind of profile. And I guess he’s our second choice. It’ll be interesting to see who UNC zeros in on eventually. I don’t see any more Roy Williams types on the horizon. Good chance they don’t get a coach like May. -

He had a bunch at the bottom. I’m not looking them all up but the first team I saw was actually slower than Drake is this year. Most of this board—myself included—couldn’t tell the difference between a 200th paced team and the 350th just by watching. You’d need the kenpom sheet in front of you. That goes for recruits too. Watching good, efficient basketball is much more rewarding to me, at any pace, than watching teams push tempo just for tempos sake. It’s nearly a non-factor. I’d take Jay Wright or Tony Bennett or a young Bo Ryan in a heartbeat. Those guys won a ton and put plenty of guys in the pros. Odds are high that our next hire won’t be as good as those guys. I’m agnostic on McCollum since I haven’t seen Drake play. I’d prefer a more proven coach, though. -

How did Jay Wright attract enough athletes to win multiple titles, playing so slow? Also, I’ve got some bad news about some of those Brad Stevens teams… -

Hard to say. I think Godin is out of eligibility. Honestly I look at that roster and don’t see a ton of talent. A couple nice players but nothing you couldn’t get elsewhere in the portal.

He’s one of my favorite freshmen to watch since Zeller. So annoying he was signed with us then we lost him. There’s an alternative universe where we fired Woody, hired May, he kept mcneely and brought godin and Wolf in, and we are in first place in the Big Ten right now and talking about a top four seed in the tournament.

Who was it? There’s a good chance he is.
