I know Otz is a rising star and thus hasn’t faced much criticism, but if you want to read some go see what ISU fans are saying about him after last nights heartbreaker. Cliffs notes: obviously his team play hard, good defense and turns the other team over consistently. But late game offensive execution (off. execution being something I pointed out in another post) and possibly blocking out/rebounding being a theme that comes up with them. I could live with a poor offensive coach if they can offset it with great defense and good enough recruiting to make the O effective at least. After Woody I don’t know if I can handle 4 more years of teams that don’t block out and rebound.

It is. Before when we played two bigs, couldn’t get out to shooters, and one ball reversal led to a rotation breakdown, teams got easy shots and didn’t need to hunt our weaker defenders. Now that we play small and gallows and leal play more, our team defense seems shored up quite a bit. That seems to be leading to coaches hunting Goode and Mbako more. I’d expect a bunch of ball screens until osu gets Thornton gets isolated versus those two or one of their bigger guys can push Goode to the post. Not an easy game. Have to wonder if we still have a path if we lose to OSU.

If we don’t hire a coach that is equal to or better than Dusty May it will be remembered that way no matter what happens in the tourney. I like May but am not entirely convinced that May is the next greatest thing since sliced bread. But if he’s anywhere close to the answer at Michigan long term and we don’t change our fortunes, we’ll look back on this as the year from hell. I hope they make the tourney for the fans sake. But this team isn’t fun. Too few guys you want to root for. I know west coast swings are hard, but the effort wasn’t there from anyone last night. Some of that is coaching, but honestly if there’s one thing a pro coach should know how to navigate better than college is an opposite coast road trip. We came away with the bare minimum we had to have, which is a small positive…I guess.

Goode Galloway and leal are seniors and weren’t much better. Rice either. Ballo was up and down I guess. Kind of amazing we hung in there until the end.

A lot you can tease out of that stat. Little of it is positive.

Almost felt bad for them as they played good D for a few possessions before that killer 3. Then down 2 they turn into a clown show nd completely crap the bed with some of the dumbest basketball imaginable. Makes me wish I just went to bed

Goode is a solid team defender but everyone is just trying to isolate him. He’s going to have to play physical and just eat the fouls.

Doesn’t surprise me. Milwaukee is an old city with some old money floating around. And in today’s landscape it only takes one or two. Warren Buffet could turn Creighton into a monster tomorrow. Michigan bought their football title in part because some tech dude was dating a young Michigan gal. OSU just bought themselves a title. Which honestly will make it all the more sad that with IUs financial commitments if they still come up short.

Him and Goode should’ve played together at least one year in HS. Bet not too many teams played 2-3 zone successfully against them.

I think I’m with you on that. I really don’t know how to quantify some of these BE schools, especially the Marquettes and Creightons, in this new pay the players world. Under the old system we likely wouldn’t even be realistically talking about him leaving his current spot for our rebuild. But it’s a new world. OTOH, the basketball only schools seem to keep coming up with enough money to field good rosters. These are tough to handicap, imo, and quite literally why Dolson makes the big bucks and gets the good seats.
