Can’t blame the whole state. Just the Madisonians. And they’re hung-over from the volleyball championship!! -

FT’s were huge and generally kept us from getting into a hole. Durr hit a couple big ones. So did Leal and X. Important ones to stop O$U from stringing together un answered scores. On the TO front, we’ve now done that a couple games. Hopefully that sticks. Even if the 3pt shooting comes back I don’t think we’ll win many B1G games with 16+ TOs like we saw earlier in the year. -

He’s a likeable dude. Has an nba background. Let’s hope that translates to recruiting success. I’m optimistic it will. -

End of the game. They wanted to get out of there. Didn’t want to spoil TJD’s dunk and Treys assist. -

He was starting to assert himself as the most important guy off the bench right when he got hurt. Glad to see his time off didn’t stunt that growth. Between him leal bates and Geronimo we are a little small but have a nice bench developing. Thought Phin played good D down the stretch too. -

Agree. Kind of surprised me. Think he knows he has a team that still needs a guiding hand. They’re so close to being a competitive team night in, night out. -

Don’t need three straight possessions of X shots -
I can’t even lie. I was kind of impressed with Painter’s call there. And they scored from full court in 2 sec. They’re bigs are gonna be problems for us. I only saw the second half, but maybe we should study what UW did.

Just bad timing to be talking up Purdue. Lol you’re right that their offense is generally in good shape. but their guards played like crap down the stretch tonight and painter was left with nothing but spamming edy over the undersized forwards from Wisky. Bottom line is Wisconsin got great play from their guards and Purdue didn’t. Sometimes it happens. Unless your like Aloha and think it was Purdue letting Davis get into a rhythm or something, you can’t always control for player variance or hot nights (or vice versa) like that. it’s premature to give a verdict on Woody now. I heard all about how Archie and Crean were “grand slams” before they ever coached a game here. Still waiting for either one of them to run motion. Sampson’s offense was and is horrid. Davis had orlando-1. We haven’t seen motion offense here for two decades. I wouldn’t hold my breathe over the next two decades.

Watching Wisconsin defend Edy is just funny. Good thing Wisky is getting a 5-star performance from Davis.

Like I mentioned way back in the thread, maybe not in response to you, the problems are spacing and ball movement. Those things are much easier to fix than implementing a bunch of cutting or screens. I’m positive the staff is working on it. Like you, I’m frustrated with the slow progress. Can you imagine how CMW feels? -

The time outs were fine. If he doesn’t take those early timeouts to address the teams play were probably not within one score at the end. He had one in which the staff had a good out of bounds play for. -

You’re not gonna get these guys, or any guys thrown together for 6mos, to play effective motion offense like we’re used to. Knight (and other motion based coaches) rarely played freshman for a reason. They seem to be attempting some spread pick and roll or 4-out feed the post offense. Both of those are fine for this group. But the ball still has to move. Our guys have horrible spacing and are below average passers. Not a good combination. -
After having slept on it, I think this is close to the truth. PSU also hit some open 3’s but a handful were tough contested shots they had no business making. The problem for me is that they still should’ve won and we continue to look off. I mentioned it in another post, but I think we have a couple weeks for things to start clicking. Maybe the end of the month. On one hand this team hasn’t played together much, but on the other we have a lot of veterans by today’s standards. I hope we look back and say this was a blip on the radar for a tourney team and not one of the 3 “what ifs” that cost us a spot in the tourney.

Turnovers improved, so we’ve got that going for us. Which is nice

Oladipo and Zeller with Wat, short guy and crew. But they had Crean as coach…vs a 2-3 zone. Lmao

Duke and Carolina stayed in house because their legendary coaches demanded it. Same reason Wisconsin did even though they didn’t want to. Coaches have been getting paid for two decades now. That hasn’t stopped UK from pulling decent coaches and winning titles. Or UNC from poaching. Or Kansas from making good hires. Or Michigan. Or Ohio State. Virginia pulled a P5 coach. Texas just did. You get the point. Hell, UCLA got more out of Howland and Alford than we did our pathetic hires. IU has simply been incompetent for 20+ yrs from the admin level up to the BoT when it comes to basketball. Our hires have been atrocious. I actually have a small glimmer of hope for this Woody/Matta combo. Let’s see yr 3 after they’ve had a chance to beat the bushes for talent for a few years. If it doesn’t work…well, it doesn’t really matter because our inept admin will serve us the same crap next time.
