I want to ding Woodson on the spacing and a few other things, but damn…you can only expect so much with this talent. Just watch Davis on the other end. He’s literally a one man show for Wisconsin half the time. We have no one close to that.

I said this was a good matchup because I assumed we’d get a ton of shots by the basket. I didn’t think we’d shoot 20% from there. Sheesh…

He is very close to unplayable on defense.

Agree. They’ve been good, not great since Ryan left, mainly because Gard can’t develop bigs like Ryan. I do enjoy Johnny Davis though. He might be the most slept on player in the country still somehow. For me it’d be Gonzaga. They rotate well and play above their talent level on D. They have great execution on offense. It’s probably no coincidence that they are built on 3 and 4 year players. It’ll be interesting to see how Few adjusts now that they are recruiting 1 and done players.

They have trouble guarding the 3 ball. Villanova should’ve beat them but couldn’t hit an open three to save their life. I’m still shocked we beat them because by all accounts it should be a bad matchup for us. I could see Purdue making a push for the FF depending on draw. I could also see them easily losing the first weekend to a midmajor with decent shooters. Their run will be dependent on draw more than anyone else’s.

What’s going on with them?

Time and place. Fri night in the summer, have a good ol’ time with some brews or weed, if that’s your thing. But the night before a game is idiotic. Not only violating team rules, but from a physical standpoint. There’s 30 games a year. About half those are on the road. Being prepared and in bed on time the night before a game is the bare minimum level of discipline.

That would be disheartening. If you’re playing whack a mole with discipline issues, you’re in trouble. You can have one head case, but not several. Pretty soon the players will just think you’re punishing them to punish them because so much punishment is being doled out, even if the punishment is justified. I think XJ being part of the five hurts as he has put together a pretty good stretch of play and decision making. Hopefully he rebounds from it.

I’m fine with that. Making the tourney was my preseason goal. otoh, a week ago we were a projected 7 seed. Missing the tourney would be a bit of a black eye. More so than i originally thought.

What do you consider ‘working out?’

This is true. And as I’ve posted several times I trust woody on this discipline issue. But program…? That’s got nothing to do with tonight. I don’t follow recruiting, but this team needs a huge influx of talent. Without that there’s no program.

If we did that’s not a bad thing. I can teach most high schoolers effective defense in half a season. A good motion type offense takes multiple years.

Nobody is done with him. I just think one of the IU greats would’ve stepped up. It’s NW. He’s bullied lesser teams all year. Nobody is asking him to outplay Cockburn tonight. Just disappointing he’s not progressed to that level. I felt the same way about zeller, and he was much better than TJD. You need those players to be a big time program.

Nah…first year. Set the tone. Even if it means missing the tourney. If you don’t do it now you have no chance later.
